But, but, but, if they give us a dye system, they can not sell us the same helm in multiple colors for 1400 space dollars each!
Must say I post less here… play more time at playing. But at the same time, I tend to play less time on darktide. Veteran has only 1 keystone I like, I never really liked psyker and ogryn is fun, but too slow to be something I really love. So, zealot… zealot… zealot… then, I play other games instead of playing veteran like by the past.
Fatshark was acquired by Tencent, a Chinese company. It explains quite a lot.
On the other hand, this way, we don’t have to spend money on paid DLCs.
The reason I’m upset about the whole mTX store debacle isn’t really the prices or the quality of the cosmetics.
Yes, I’m upset about the quality too, but! The real reason I’m annoyed is the FOMO system, where a new page only appears every two weeks, COUPLED with the FACT that we don’t know beforehand if the newly rotated page will actually be NEW cosmetics that have never been sold before, repeats of cosmetics that have been sold before or, alternatively, recolors of cosmetics we’ve had on sale before!
That is what irritates me!
The fact that I am not sure if we will get new items, repeats, or recolors.
Also, as far as I am aware, Tencent has taken a hands-off approach to the companies it has acquired in the West.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but it feels to me that Fatshark’s management needed to raise prices in order to buy new Tesla cars for themselves for Christmas.
If they were that influential a lot of this GLS nonsense would be making it’s way into VT2 too, as far as I’m aware there isn’t all that much in there. If anything I wouldn’t be amazed if alot of the nonsense we put up with here was instead put in under the insistence of upper management in FS or from GW’s IP management team.
You do have a point, I prefer free new content over cheap premium skins.
GW does love meddling with the things they shouldn’t, whilst leaving the things they should meddle with at a distance at all times.
I do love the idea of this monolithic Chinese boogeyman ruining a years worth of monetization and expectations for a Swedish company for a single good month. Anyone here ever work with any sales people? They want consistent profits above projections month over month to get their bonuses and other perks. Sometimes they deliberately keep profits low in the current month so that they can ensure next month will exceed projections as well. This smells like a cross promotional gouge due to being the same IP even though the fan crossover is nearly zero due to the different style of gameplay. Maybe someone in China is trying to make a splash and held fatshark at metaphorical gunpoint to price this so high, maybe not. What it doesn’t do is explain the problems with previous fatshark decision making
Typical Shenzhen activities (my Chinese friend got mugged there last week)
If this game has 250 dollar skin packs in five years then I will be forced to agree with your version of supply and demand.
Don’t tempt them, it’s already $90 Australian for all 4 of the Classes’ Rogue Trader sets
The mobile games industry works entirely on this basis. 95-99% of the people playing aren’t the ones making the money. They’re just there to make the 5-1% of people feel above them for dropping all of their money.
These are generally Free 2 Play, no? Seems like Fatshark has it made with the gamepass money coming in and a pseudo-F2P base from microsoft. Maybe this is the whale motherload. I will say that some of the comments I’ve seen from other gamepass players have been very…low investment / non-min-max / clueless? I could say no offense to any of those players reading, but those players aren’t aware this forum exists, and if they do and also identify with those words, I intend full offense. I am a bit of a tryhard/min-maxer it turns out.
Never knew the price of the skins because this is what I’m rockin

They update the content for you for free, can we just let them monetize? Cosmetics are totally optional.
The behavior isn’t exclusive to China like certain types like to make it seem, but Tencent is known to be a company that gets by on mobile game hypermonetization scummery. They’ve been FS’s parent company for a few years now iirc and imo both companies are just feeding into each other’s bad practices.
While I agree that paid cosmetics are overpriced, the fact that FS continues doing what they are doing can also mean that this business model works quite well for them.
At this point this is Corpo 101: aggressively monetize because your masters (the shareholders) either expect or demand (or are perceived to) immediate massive yoy profits. Short term gains are lauded in the corp world as more important than long-term stability & longevity.
“Get what you can as fast as possible, damn the consequences.”
Which is why I opened with:
Generally with corpos like FS that like to somewhat pretend (barely) that they bother with public relations don’t start cranking up prices unless they’re not meeting revenue objectives, are in financial distress, or are under contractual obligations that directly or indirectly cause them to up MTX monetization.
The funny thing about this meme is that it is relatively accurate, and a lot of Chinese corpos are indeed pretty brazen about this stuff, but not necessarily bad enough to warrant being at meme tier depending on who you look at. Comparatively, a lot of Korean and Japanese ones definitely are at meme tier when it comes to how predatory their MTX practices are.
EA ain’t got sh@t on some of these guys, and some Japanese Gachas are at dystopian YA novel levels of nonsensical f@ckery with what they often get away with.
Tencent might as well be Devolver Digital and FS one of the dev studios under them comparatively speaking depending on what Korean and Japanese companies and studios you look at, lol.
Yes, I’m aware Devolver is a publisher while Tencent a holding company, different types of relations. Just used the juxtaposition to comment on how the corporate ethics in question here should be perceived. It is also worth noting that while it’s likely that Tencent does somewhat influence FS’s decisions, it is doubtful that it is to this extent of micromanagement. Such interference is more likely to come from FS upper management or GW’s usual goonery.
This is my point. If they want to use the whale model to supplement the game pass money, they can. It’s not as if the skins are good anyway.
I think the friction comes in because of the lack of unlocks and quality of the paid skins. The idea being that only whales would buy such poor skins because they buy everything. The people in this forum generally want fatshark to succeed and make content they want to buy, but many aspects of the game are mismatched compared to one another and the result is frustration. I’m just waiting on a hot fix or patch for the new boss battle.
