In higher difficulties they struggle to even keep up with the double barrel shotguns, and which have great cleave. But the accatran, and zarona shotguns don’t do enough damage against unarmored or flak enemies. Their lack of cleave, and they just don’t fit a specific niche in the current meta. The alternative fire, reload speed, and close range damage on the three combat shotguns are terrible genuinely. For a shotgun they have no place currently with how weak they are outside of scriers gaze, and weapon specialist builds.
Combat Shotguns could definitely use some more Ammo.

I would love it if they made the special ammo into the primary fire, would make them more interesting and it would help against their terrible reload time. I have no issue with a weapon being terrible to reload if it has other properties that shine, I actually prefer big setbacks for big rewards as it makes the game more interesting as using weapons that actually feel different is key. This would make them feel more special and unique. One with flame ammo for dots, one with slugs for destroying flak and carapace and one with buckshot for a more “classic” shotgun experience.

i want the special action to switch between firing special ammo and normal ammo
the normal ammo should also do more damage, and they should reload faster
