Chain-weapons yanking the camera on unrevved attacks is nausea-inducing

Not only that, but it also directly affects gameplay. There is nothing more infuriating than having the cleave on a mk2 eviscerator end, snatch onto some trash mob’s legs, and instantly snap your camera to the floor.

It’s horrid game design and takes away control from the player, something they normally have. Remove it.

Seriously, what is this?

A skill issue, obviously.

Your zealot is simply too weak to use an Eviscerator, unlike mine :sunglasses:

what? how did that happen!

i guess, nerf vet

Not sure what you mean.
You are taking a lot of hits, starting just before your camera is turned down.
I am pretty sure that your camera is being moved, because the enemies are smashing the hell out of you.

Edit:
Although taking hits will cause your camera to tilt in this way, that does not seem to be why it happened in the clip, since the buff icon of “Thy Wrath Be Swift” shows up in the buff bar.
TWBS prevents stagger and camera tilt from enemy attacks.

So in this case, something else was causing the tilt.

Enemy damage doesn’t yank the camera to the floor. It has never done that even when I’ve been whaled on by a bunch of enemies.

Yes it does.
When an enemy slaps you, you get staggered a bit and your cam tilts down slightly.
If you take multiple hits in a row (as you do in your clip), your camera goes to the floor (as it does in your clip).

Iv been mashed beyond belief and its never yanked me inappropriately :money_mouth_face:

@CobaltNinja It doesnt look like the eviscerators doing either. It actually looks like an input glitch. I get it sometimes with my controller where it moves left much further than I input and faster than my sensitivity is set to, so its not me.

I get this on other games in different ways, sometimes with the mouse, sometimes with a pad. It does seem to be the games problem tho, as different games have different issues. I have no idea what causes it or the source tbh. It could be lag, it could be the game, it could be dirt, it could be maltreatment. I really dont know.

It just doesnt look like the game is meant to do that, whatever the cause.

Go test it.
Your camera gets yanked.

If you have the creature spawner mod, you can test it in the psykhanium by spawning a few regular mobs and letting them hit you.

But… I feel like after a couple hundred hours I would have noticed looking at the floor suddenly. Its never happened to me. Im simply not that good a player?

If you look at the vid, its also instant. It looks like input issues and not in-game related at all to me.

In the clip, the guy takes multiple hits at the same time as the camera is yanked.
I repeatedly reproduced it in the psykhanium, by letting enemies hit me.
Are you gonna tell me that didn’t happen?

In missions, you usually do not notice it as much.
You usually do not take that many hits at once (so your camera does not tilt as much), and since you move around anyway, you will compensate for the camera movement, without noticing.

If you want me to?

Seriously tho, Iv never had that happen and Iv been wailed on before. Potentially something to do with a particular control setup? Sensitivity related?

I use a controller and I wouldnt be able to compensate fast enough if that happened as I dont use very sensitive settings. I would really notice. Maybe Im better than I think at dodging then.

I’ve been playing with mostly evis since the beta and I’ve never had that happen to me

I have also never had that happen.

I’m not going to tell you it “didn’t happen” but it would be awesome if you could provide a clip with you reproducing it.

You can test it in missions as well as in the psykhanium. This happens in both.

I just went back to the psykhanium and tested it on all 4 classes with multiple weapons.
Spawn one or a few horde minions and let them slap you (hands off the controls to prevent involuntary inputs).
Doesn’t matter if you turn invulnerability on or off.

I did not find any option in the settings, that seems like it could be related to this, aside from camera sway, which i have turned off.

Ogryn gets knockback, but no camera tilt by default.
All three humans get knockback and camera tilt by default.

Do you by any chance use this talent on your zealot?
If you use it, you get no knockback and no camera tilt.

I never recorded anything on my PC, so idk how to do it.
But i am sure someone else can test and confirm, or record and upload.

Or you can enter a mission and have some random enemy hit you just once.

I do use TWBS in all my builds, so either something you’ve said is wrong, or it’s not taking enemy damage that causes this jank.

Looking at the video more carefully now, i noticed that the TWBS icon shows up when you get slapped, so you were indeed using that talent when it happened.

The camera movement looks very similar to what happens when you get slapped (without TWBS), but considering that you were using the talent, i don’t know what caused the camera tilt in this specific case.

Unless the talent was bugging out on you for some reason, it really must have been something else that caused the tilt.

(Maybe your camera gets yanked even when using TWBS, if you get slapped while currently hitting something with the eviscerator. Did not test that yet, but might test it later.)

What?

What’s going on here?

Chain weapons absolutely will sometimes attach themselves to a random enemy / random body part and yank the camera along with it. This is not news. This happens a lot.

I have also never, in the entire history of Darktide, experienced camera being knocked to the ground from taking hit(s).

Get into a mission and just let any enemy hit you.
Let go of your mouse just to make sure.

Unless my version of darktide is somehow different in that regard, your camera should tilt down.

Just make sure you are not playing ogryn, or zealot with stun immunity.

(I am quite positive that this is not some weird behavior, caused by a mod.
But i will test, if it is.)

I’ve never noticed it janking downwards in a game.
I downloaded the creature spawner. It doesn’t seem to move for me, but I’m happy to try with different units if you want:
