Can you solo a chaos spawn without a boss killing build?

I just got curious what % of players can actually pull it off because i was never able to do it either in vermintide 2 or darktide.
There’s just something about that boss that just gets me f-ed up. I can deal with ogryn or nurgle puppy just fine by myself (or rat ogre/bile troll in vermin), but this one bastard always gets the better of me.

When im the last man standing and a chaos spawn… spawns :

With my non boss killing builds, there’s usually something i can use to defend myself, either more damage to electrified targets with the arbites, charge-up attacks with the crusher on my zealot (believe me the crusher is not good at killing bosses), the riposte of my kits with the devil claw are pretty good and usually, the more a boss attacks, the more damage i do so the chaos spawn and demonhost get very funny to fight.

But anyway anyway.. idk.. its just a matter of having either enough stamina to block some attacks, regenerating enough toughness to endure them or staggering it. The only real attack you gotta watch out for is the grab.

Cspawn are not particularly hard to solo, if you have room to 1v1 them. Dealing with a cspawn plus a pack of crushers or ragers or a captain or whatever is a completely different story, however.

Some people can do it, but I am not one of them.

The boss is 100% of the time not the threat in non isolated scenarios

chaos spawns are ez pz except when they manage to grab you and some other enemy decides it’s time to 100 to 0 you, very all or nothing boss

I really dont feel like the direct 1v1 is particularly hard. The bigger problem is how aggressive the boss is compared to the others, you cant really just run away from it as easily while thinning out other enemies so it forces you into fights that aren’t exactly a 1v1 and can run you into corners much easier.

Like the beast of nurgle you just walk away until you can isolate it. Plague ogryn you just block its charge attack and that is basically all its got. Chaos spawn barrels into you constantly and needs you to give it much more attention.

So 1v1 = 2EZPZ4ME (Just space out their multi attack or block the last few hits after dodging the first few)
Actual solo gameplay/clutch situation = Probably the second hardest boss spawn besides the twins.

I like spawn, he actually ends up being a tougher fight instead of one that consumes more resources and time in havoc (captains and lieutenants always have the same void shield durability after auric, so the team can usually rip them down with no issue chain staggering after the shield bursts). In auric an experienced dodge maestro can lock spawn on the spot with practice, but with the action pace increases of enemies spawn is pretty much always moving in havoc.

Avoid the tentacle at all costs and he’s pretty manageable, but the fight is noticeably more intense whenever they show up instead of just having a big HP bar and changing the music temporarily like plague ogryn and beast of nurgle.

Do this:

Play ogryn
Get bully club
Get as much toughness damage reduction as you can
Download creature spawner mod
Spawn chaos spawn
Fight it in the psykhanium

Fight it till it not longer scares you when you see it flailing like all getout

Problem solved

the 2 simple tricks to fighting chaos spawn are

  1. do not be afraid to block, blocking trivializes their fast combos. a friend of mine struggled with them really hard and when he was asked “are you blocking it at all?”. they werent, and when they stopped trying to dodge every single attack suddenly they were pushovers to him, they just cant do anything about it get blocked bozo
  2. never let your right hand side get blocked off. thats the side you need to dodge to to avoid a grab. this means you do actually have to pay attention to the geometry and your general location as you move around with it, but if that side is open you are perfectly safe. also worth noting the grab has a cooldown and it’ll try to use it the moment its available, so youll start to notice that he’ll only do it every 3-5 attacks so you can be more prepared to avoid it when you know its been a bit since the last one

As others have said the issue is you’re almost never fighting only the spawn. It’s true threat is the constant knockback into other enemies, over ledges, pools of fire etc.

Ideally you want to fight it with your back to a wall with a little space to dodge sideways, but close to it’s body. Keep up block as it has very low stamina consuption on hit, wait for it to finish the left-right spam attacks, and once it starts the slow rights put an attack of your own in between every hit while blocking the right-arm hits. Oh and dodge into/under the tentacle grab, never backwards. If you get too far away from it’s mouth you trigger the grab.

Most answers I see here assume a boss killer build  which is explicitly excluded. When I am on a vet without voice of command or cata sword it gets hairy. If I am on a melee Psyker (not FGS or ds) and down to 25% life I have a fifty/fifty chance.

Anything that can reg toughness by hitting in melee has no problem with any setup. That makes arbi, scum, zealot and ogrin.

The thing that changed the outcome for me (before the outcome was “You lose”) was when I have understood that the CS attacks are easily parried.

Entirely class and weapon dependant.

Generally speaking, ogryn has the easiest time being able to facetank while trading hits with many of his weapons, while vet will struggle the most because of stamina issues if the spawn decices to endlessly chain flurries, because monsters have no internal cooldown on their attacks, still, for some reason. Nonstop tailwhip burgle anyone, because we are totally not supposed to target its weakpoint with melee mkay?

Arbi can somewhat struggle, not because of sustain, but lack of monster dmg in general, so you will have to rely on dog / guns, psyker can hold block all day long, while zealot and scum will run circles around.

I’ve solo’d or near solo’d a h40 chaos spawn on multiple occasions as an exe stance vet where my only melee talent was serrated blade just because I had the devils claw and thus could practically infinitely sustain myself against it while doing damage. But again this is because the chaos spawn went on me, my team knew I was fine, and so just focused on stabilizing the situation and addressing other threats, which was more important than helping me with the cspawn. In an actual clutch situation with a cspawn, that Vet build folds like cheap paper lol

Probably, it’s just a matter of time. And maybe not on low-mobility builds.
