They’re not even tanky anymore. They’re just ‘revive simulator 2025’
Just played the train map on Heresy thinking it’ll be a nice quick mission to get 1 more towards my 100 Arbite missions penance (although it only counts if you start from the lobby, FFS FS fix that too) but I had 3 bots the entire time and the bots were so unbelievably incompetent that the mission was impossible. I just spent my entire time reviving them or saving them.
It’s a miracle I got 2 minigames done but at the end carriage they were all dead (again) and the ai director thought would be great time to throw an auric maelstrom amount of enemies at me and of course I got netted through a 200 tonne meat wall.
My blood is boiling at how ******** useless the bots are. Why are they not even tanky anymore? They can’t survive longer than 2 minutes on heresy?!?!
Does anyone remember the improved bots mod in VT2?
So it clearly can be done. Even the base VT2 bots were far better. Admittedly more ranged enemies complicate things a bit. I’m looking forward to dodge sliding bots
Yeah, I feel like bots need a little help at this point (especially with the server instability and the ‘back fill’ function seeming to be completely broken outside of the first few moments of a match, and the stated crap with the story missions making me not even play the game anymore after finally finishing my 100 Arbite missions over the weekend), mainly just in their coding logic and figuring out they can and can’t tank. Right now the most annoying thing about them is they prioritize reviving, sure, but they prioritize PAST reviving ‘dodging’ their way out of bombs. This makes them literally atrociously useless the moment a tox bomber is present (yet another reason they should not be in the game), because as soon as the world is blanketed by tox the bots are immediately stun locked because they don’t know how to just sit there and tank it, thinking dodging will reduce the damage they take.
So, they just sit their osculating between walking toward you and dodging away, walking toward you and dodging away, then dying. And it’s just, so depressing. Only way they are helpful as as moderately effective meat sponges, and even that’s becoming less and less reliable since they have no innate DR or any talents selected (given you can tell by their base ammo regen aura that even stacks with the upgraded version if you have a survivalist veteran on top of them), so as the game floods the field with more and more enemies they have none of the regen or staying power necessary to keep them alive enough to be useful. They are hardly capable of even going and reviving each other half the time while I kill everything around them as they seem to prioritize following a player and will just leave their fellow meat sack on the floor if I’m even just 2 feet away from them.
It’s unfortunate, made all the worse by quickplay just being none functional atm.
I had the exact same experience. I got 98 of 100 missions done on Arbie and I thought I could get them done last night.
This was all on Auric. First attempt was Excise Vault, and one player after another died and left, so I was stuck with bots, because the game doesn’t backfill with players anymore.
Well I managed to clutch it until the third auspex hack. The only reason I kept reviving bots was because without them the auspex is literally impossible. With them it’s almost impossible.
So that failed. I thought “F it” and saw the train appear. Let’s do that. Same thing happening. I don’t know why but there were some bad players, probably going for auric survivor title, ALT+F4 when they go down.
Bot are just so bad. They don’t survive for more than a 10 seconds.
Generally I don’t play with bots so I wasn’t very aware of their behavior, and I while don’t mind THAT MUCH that they are mediocre, recently I saw one of them steal a med station charge (the last one so f me) and I couldn’t believe it.
They are unironically an extra modifier.
What hurts my soul is that bots in VT2 aren’t that bad (they tend to waste healing when no mods are installed to fix that). At least they fight somewhat decently and you can customize their loadout.
But bots in DT are just a worthless waste of space. No gear customization ; either they get a Catachan sword or an axe, at random.
I’m sure FS doesn’t want to spend a lot of time on bots, even though they are truly horrible. Which is unfortunate because decent (and varied, where ma ogryns at) bots would go a long way to making solo mode a thing.
The least they could do is adjust their numbers for survivability so at least they’ve got a better chance to rez a human team member which is about all their useful for (if you’ve gone down in a quiet corner). It’s not like they do much damage so this shouldn’t upset any balance. Make them invincible for all I care.
If they spent a little time on features, I wouldn’t mind seeing the doggy double-ping applied to some bot function. Like double-ping medicae for them to eat. Or double-ping a ammo/medi-pack if the human players have their pockets full. Grims/scripts even. They can pass them to you when you have space, and there we have a modicum of usefulness!
And finally, please make them stop shooting poxbursters. In fairness they don’t seem to kill them, but shooting them at all makes the situation super dodgy and unpleasant if you intend to push them as normal. The amount of times a bot has been responsible for the team taking poxburster damage is… significant in my experience.
Fatshark needs to stop thinking that bots need to function like players. Make their code go around their inability to think like a human. Can’t make them stop standing in fire? Make them immune.
Perhaps, instead of being random rejects, they’re just generic guardsmen - no abilities or buffs or anything, but at least can survive.
And while we’re at it, why can’t we toggle them off in private matches? It’s just so weird.
