Blacklist and Disabling Crossplay

On the first one I’ll have to look, but no, LB is ping. And I KNOW Xbox players have no left index finger or refuse to ping/mark stuff

And yeah, I agree 1000%. 99% of controllers will not be able to prioritize targets

Wait is this seriously another long ass thread about whether Bigpfieffer is a good player or not

who keeps making these threads?? We all know controller players are garbage in comparison, who cares?

Argument is exhausted. Expanding the blacklist should happen and disabling crossplay shouldn’t, the rest of the people here just want to argue. I feel like writing so I’m going to summarize the situation as I see it.

Darktide is in a nearly unique position. The disappointing part is that the chain of decisions leading to this point weren’t very difficult to predict. First, they release a game on PC in a borderline alpha state. Some of the game mechanics and settings were more or less stripped down versions carried over from Vermintide, and many things about the game are still worse. The lack of sounds for some of the games most dangerous enemies is an obvious example. The lack of different environments and story really point to the game being undercooked.

I’ve played thousands of hours of PUBG (not my favorite memories, but I was playing with my Aussie mates and they are awesome). I learned that you really can compete with PC players with a controller, even with no autoaim. After that many hours, your decisions and the game’s mechanics play a far larger role in winning a fight than the fact you are using a controller. The thing is, Fatshark has made a series of poor decisions that put controller users at a massive disadvantage, a uniquely poor set of decisions.

For me, Vermintide 2 was unplayable with a controller. Darktide is better, but not great even when compared to the clear jank in PUBG. Darktide’s controller settings are the worst defaults I’ve encountered in a AA or AAA game in a decade. The aim acceleration settings can’t be adjusted to be good, just ok. I asked for the vertical sensitivity settings they had in vermintide as a compromise. They put them in which was sweet because playing an ogryn was an obvious handicap for a controller player. Looking up from loot and turning around is still a problem, but at least it is now workable. The vertical settings were so important because I’ve never seen acceleration zones so narrow that vertical settings saved them. Also haven’t seen a game launch without vertical sensitivity settings in a decade, although I am sure there are plenty of walking simulators that have out there. The keyboard turner stereotype mentioned earlier is sadly appropriate.

Gamepass is another layer. Gamepass players will stream this game at 30 FPS with lag, occasional artifacts, and default controller settings. They could simply install the game to get consistent asset streaming and 60 fps, but many don’t. I’m not strawmaning here: there was a post on reddit in which someone was asking for advice, and this is what they had been doing for 200 hours. I was very nice to him. These aren’t min-max people. These types of people give a negative review to a game because it is no longer on gamepass. These types of people give a negative review to an item on amazon because the package was delivered to the wrong door. These people are playing auric with nearly default controller settings, which, even when fully tuned with auto-aim (autoaim tuning is also somewhat poor), aren’t as good as PUBG was with no autoaim. Just to be clear, PUBG is unoptimized trash on the level of a Bethesda title. It will never be good. Both companies recommend triple+ passable PC specs because they can’t get assets to steam in properly.

40k boltgun actually has better controller configuration options than darktide including the ability to adjust aim acceleration zones, which is actually the first time I’ve seen them. A downloadable high end mobile title, boltgun, has some of the most configurable aim settings I’ve ever seen, but Darktide has settings that are at least 5 years behind.

There area few people in this thread that don’t seem willing to ever accept that there are controller players that can out perform them in this game. Given how poor the default settings are, and even the tuned settings, they have a point. I don’t think asking fatshark to figure out how they want to mange crossplay is a good use of time because their other decisions, like having the AI director go insane, or having a steep difficulty curve in which difficulty 3 is snooze inducing and difficulty 4 is insanity when you first play it, are better things to focus on than taking the small and dwindling playerbase and dividing it into even smaller pools. If the devs leave the AI director in its current state and go on their usual 2 to 3 month vacation, the playerbase will disappear. Add on that people at level 30 aren’t going to back off damnation because they want oranges to collect blessings, and you have a perfect storm of frustration.

Saying that some of the people in this thread, this forum, and on the reddit equivalent are PC elitists isn’t much of a stretch. You should focus on crewing up with some PC people instead of arguing for disabling crossplay because the game’s playerbase is going to have a steep drop off after Christmas. When this happens, the pool of Steam only players will be incredibly small, so small that programming in the ability for steam players to disable crossplay is a waste of time. You won’t be given the option to play with PC gamepass players because Microsoft won’t take kindly do it. This is the most obvious point of speculation on my part, but MS’s selling point is "play anywhere.” It’s how MS got Xbox back on its feet after the terrible xbox one online only launch debacle that shifted the console interest back to Sony. MS pivoted hard toward it and has now overtaken their competition by literally buying studio after studio. Let me be clear, I don’t think MS will actually forbid them from disabling crossplay for steam players, but I don’t think they will allow MS PC and xbox players to be split, and even if they do, the playerbase will be so small at that point that it won’t even matter and you won’t use it. The most amusing group of people in this thread are the people that insist they want it for version parity, for fairness, but will never use it. What a hill to die on.

This is only a valid discussion because of how poor the default controller settings are, which lands squarely on fatshark. The fact that even the adjusted settings aren’t great also squarely lands on fatshark. The fact they launched in a borderline alpha state also lands on fatshark. The fact there wasn’t a simultaneous launch that allowed controller players to develop at the same time as Steam players also lands on Fatshark. It was so obvious that, rather than repeat their launch mistake, they delayed the MS launch for months to clean up the game, this was a brilliant move. This is a painful reality for the steam players, but the game has been resurrected due to their hard work and injection of money from MS. Their monetization model might have helped, but it is under developed, which also, surprisingly, lands on fatshark.

I disabled crossplay on console in a game with roughly 10k players and the matchmaking time was 10 minutes because no one disables it. Also, the oddball pool of players that would do this pose another interesting gameplay element in and of itself. You are literally better off crewing up with the other PC people IN THIS THREAD, abandoning it, and starting a new thread everyone can get behind: expanding the blacklist.

Not sure it’s an apples to apples comparison here. There aren’t hordes and other stuff around the human players in PUBG unless it’s changed since the very brief period I played since launch.

Uh they’re playing it on GP Streaming? I know a couple of people playing on Geforce Now, I even tweaked my pre-mod perk re-roller for them, but this HAS to be a tiny proportion of players?

You could also make the point that mounting frustration with constantly being grouped with one or more xboxes on the very highest difficulty missions leads to people not playing; if you’ve ever done many HiSTGs and Maelstrom with 2 xboxers let me know how it went. Not that they have the monopoly on being bad, but they certainly have the lion’s share. We’ll see a couple of week from now when the AI director buff dust settles, and if FS fixes all the broken talents and blessings, not to mention new weapons and new stuff to fix.

Way ahead of you, I think I made that request a year ago. Hel, I still get paired with people I blocked on Steam because I needed the blacklist slots, including notorious barrel griefers and headless chickens that cause wipes seemingly on purpose.
Nothing like going into the steam recent player list to block soemone only to find them already blocked, or recognizing someone by name.

So you’re saying a better player on controller can outperform a bad player on MnK?
Hardly controversial, I’m sure a monkey with a controller can outperform some of the people I’ve played with recently.

I find it amusing that people are trying to sow doubt by claiming that disabling console cross-play will basically mean 10 min queue times, I’d take that bet and would also be fine if proven wrong.
There comes a point where if all you keep getting matched with are players who have no intention of contributing to a win, or even the knowledge to do so, you’d consider stopping playing altogether. Maybe solo play or private with with bots only.

Opting out will/should NOT prevent you from matchmaking with other PC players as some have suggested, and TBH I doubt many would have a problem keeping it Steam-only on their end but I wouldn’t want to leave PC Gamepass players behind.

There’s been a lot of off-topic discussion, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that we should be able to opt-out of crossplay entirely. Honestly crossplay should be opt-in.

Bet? Demonstrable fact. Load up overwatch, disable crossplay, and look at the que times during off peak, compare the size of the playerbase. The maniacs in this forum are posting and playing at 2 am. The viability of disabling crossplay disappeared the moment they decided to launch an unfinished game. Other games with better aiming are gears of war and deep rock galactic. Both horde games.

My points are all clear. Nothing left to say.

Crossplay should be opt-in.

Opt out is just fine. Also this hatred for console players is baffling to me. Or this talk about controller players. Truth is, I rarely see even okay players. Mostly (like 95% of guys) people are awful at the game, regardless of platform or time spent in game. And I would say, regardless of mouse and keyboard or controller.

So this “console peasants ruin my game” mentality is funny to me, since I could argue that the vast majority of players ruin my fun but I don’t spread hate because of it.

This topic is quiet fun to read through.

The guy blowing his own horn over his mediocre gameplay video…

I don’t care if someone is using a controller, a joystick, MnK or his fathers schlong to play if the person isn’t in need of getting carried and knows which difficulty he’s able to play.
But still, I think that PC-players should have the option to opt out of crossplay, like it’s the case for pretty much every other game that has crossplay.
Also I experienced way longer loading times when console players were part of the team.

Well said!

The initial controller settings are straight garbage. Hell, everytime they add new controller settings I find a great improvement lol

And yea I can’t say you are right for sure, but I also expect crossplay being turned off to be regrettable for anyone who does it. I just can’t imagine them being able to match with crossplay enabled players🤷‍♂️

And yes, it really is just a bunch of Pc elite players being prejudice, hence while I’m exaggerating and calling them bigots lol
Instead of them finding a viable solution already in front of them, like discord, friend requesting people they liek to play with, forums, etc they just say embarrassingly shallow things :man_shrugging:

Yup!

BUT I also learned about my eviscerator!! That’s a win….right?

Yup exactly! That’s all I’ve been ever trying to say. It just takes me 300 posts :sunglasses:

Most people are bad. You can play damnation or Auric with a controller, but you better be good. Nothing to do with the controller :man_shrugging:

As a console player that regularly plays auric damnation, I find some of the ‘hot takes’ and attitudes towards the console community as whole to be insulting. I’ve regularly had people compliment my ability or be surprised that I’m playing on console to begin with and whilst I think I’m more than capable , I’m definitely not the best console player and have some learning to do yet.

I just think it would be better practice to educate and assist newer/lesser skilled players (which are more often than not xbox players due to the games’ recent release on GP) than to complain about them ‘ruining’ your game and dismissing them with an elitist attitude.

Ok dude let me brace you for what fat nerd bigot is going to say:

  1. No you suck. I don’t believe you. Provide video
  2. I am going to ignore you playing auric successfully and you still suck
  3. Stop saying you’re good
  4. If you played MNK you’d be even better, despite you repeatedly saying you’ve tried and that’s just not the case.

It’s going to happen so just brace yourself. Take work off for a week or something

Seriously though, I agree with you. It’s the less toxic way to deal with unskilled players. Help them out. We are literally all on the same team here. If you and I can do it, then so can they💯

Thanks for the warning, don’t worry whatever people say I’m not gonna be phased, I’m comfortable in my beliefs and assertions whilst acknowledging that others might think differently.

If people chose to be kinder this would be less of an issue :stuck_out_tongue: - W

Well you are better than me.

Can you at least call him FNB? It sounds cool and I think he’d approve.

Hey what are your controller settings? I’m still playing with mine so I’m curious. So far, I’m up to 2.5(ish) on horizontal and 2.1(ish) on vert. I do exponential and have the curve at like 60% for melee and 80% for ranged

Yea sure. I have over 2,5k hours in VT2 and 1,5k hours in VT had few hundred hours in DT and I have never ever seen anyone praising anyone over won Cata, Cata+, Damnation or Auric. If someone feels like he was carried it’s usually just “gg, thanks for carry” at the end, or some flaming and quiting. Or if someone feels like he really drags team you’d see “sorry I suck” etc. 99% of time it’s just “gg”, buisiness as usual, we all chose highest difficulty for a reason.

Why? Becaue you are EXPECTED to perform on those difficulties. You will not be praised just becasue you do your job. So it’s not about you being console/controller player just so we are clear, becasue I would say the same to anyone but I call “regulary compliment my ability” a BS. Nobody on those difficulties will praise anyone for performing at expected level. What the hell…

Sees veteran with Revolver joining Auric Damnation.
Said Veteran with Revolver is sniping every special I am tagging

End of the game chat: “Omg, dude, you were so awesome playing dedicatied range anti-special and killing all specials. I have never seen anything like that before! ARE YOU PLAYING ON M&K OR CONTROLLER? OMG, REALLY, A CONTROLER! YOU ARE AWESOME”

Ye, sure. It’s “GG”, queue for next game. You did what you were supposed to do.

No, it is clearly about being console/controller according to FNB and his flock. That is the entire argument. Not wanting to play with bad players is a very different and reasonable argument🤷‍♂️

I wrote my above response to something totally different and you are dragging it back to console vs PC argument after stating yourself multiple times that you are tired of whole console vs PC stuff. So be so kind and make up your mind.

I said above I would say that the same to anyone, doesn’t matter if it’s console/Pegasus/PC or Toster player. Nobody praise anyone on Damntion/Cata/Auric. You are supposed to perform and make run smooth. Nobody will praise you for doing that so I call BS him hearing “regular compliments”, unless he writes them himself on chat.
