RNG BS that punishes player and forces a grind, that then punishes you again, until you strike it lucky.
It’s that simple.
HD2 maps are roughly the same, almost the same missions, same things to find etc, but it’s fun and a good laugh and you get rewarded for playing.
DT does nothing but punish you, do a damnation auric? your reward? Poxy credit and legendary item that there is 99.99999999999% is going to be about as useful as p**ing into the wind.
Oh but hand over your dosh for the skins for an extortionate price.
No one with half brain is gonna suck that up for long.
And I love 40k, I got into it when the first Rouge Trader rule book come out in 88…
And no matter how much I love 40k, no way am I going to be mugged off and that is how DT makes you feel.

For what its worth, the kind of training and experience you need to command a ship with a full crew of pilots, divers, and support staff is going to be far more time intensive than a front line helldiver. As much as Super Earth is ok with tossing diver after diver into a bug hole, theyre probably going to think a bit harder about letting the captain of a ship run around planetside.
The ship is under your command, you’re the Captain with too much education now. Your feet are not touching that dirt.
I appreciate the enthusiasm, but note that I said Tide games not Darktide. Vermintide 2 doesn’t have the issues Darktide has and yet it has always had equally awful player retention.
You mean it doesn’t have the same problems anymore, but they were there at the start - crashes, poor optimization, insanely low red drop chance, idiotic rerolls keep giving you same properties 5 times in a row so you spend 30 minutes trying to roll 2 properties with some decent stats, 70% talents are broken, 90% of weapons are trash, reappeared bugs, new bugs every patch.
So game lost it’s playerbase and reviving V2 took so long that it was too late barely anyone was interested to come back.
No. I mean literally after all of that when the game was at its peak state with the most maps and most content, when it had its free to keep weekend and 100,000 people played concurrent… only for the player count to drop off a cliff right back to where it was before because the player retention blows ass.
i looked it up november 2023 they hit 100k, you’re right, im assuming chaos waste dropped…
game mode is fun and all, but its really only a limited roguelike mode once you explored everything a couple times its not that intresting anymore
and frankly most players don’t go for challanges and archievements
explore content a bit-> no content left → move on → come back when new content hits (or never)
if a studio always has something coming out thats when people remain with the game
just look at fortnite love it or hate it, but it remained among the most popular games for years simply by drowning people in content, i don’t think its at all apealing game but as long there is always something to do…
chaos wastes came out long before that free to keep weekend iirc
But you already control the ship in HD2. The name, where it goes, which missions it takes part in, which upgrades are developed. So, effectively, you’re already the ship commander.
Which is why it’s so jarring (IMO at least) when you then then do a cool drop, get killed by a teammate, and then an identical replacement drops in like nothing happened (but it ain’t a clone). It’s just… feels weird. ![]()
meant november 2022 by bad
People have beaten the hardest difficulty solo with no deaths. I know they made it harder but you essentially stealth and ignore outposts, POIs, optionals, and just rush the main objectives… As fast as you can while stealthing anyways.
You don’t have as much fun dialogue that’s true. But Darktides convos were a lot less interesting to me than Vermintide 2s. The Ubersreik 5 had such memorable characters and lines that honestly darktide, still decent, but isn’t as good as.
The discord for HD2 you can find chatty people. People strategize on what equipment to bring and talk. I do think there’s a lot less need to talk in Darktide. In HD2 warning people about throwing an air strike, asking for assisted reload, marking the map to your intentions on where to go… There’s a reason you need to talk and it makes the co-op part of the game more rewarding. In darktide you can kinda be a jack of all trades suited to have a weapon or skill for all enemies and don’t rely on your allies. In HD2 if you don’t have have crowd control, or anti-tank or building destruction, you may need to run away and ask someone else to deal with it.
What if helldivers are expendable soldiers and everytime they lose one, another is unfrozen in the ships cryochambers to reinforce the front line? How many helldivers does a ship go through to take back a planet? ![]()
This. Tide games are not rly deep coop games, there are just 4 solo players in one run.
Outside of certain meme builds (like stealth zealots sprinting through the whole level), one bad hound or trapper can spell doom for a teammate, or the whole team. Also, you don’t just “die” and respawn - you need to help teammates in need.
Even if there are 4 random people playing together, they need to cooperate and stick together. Thus far I’ve seen people play HD2 solo, or full teams where everyone runs off in a different direction.

Eh no? Ogryn, voc vet, surge/trauma+dome on psyker.
Rescuing from disablers/after respawn is the only coop thing, you are right. Well, stims also.
You don’t have any significant specialization like full healer, full anti armor/horde. There is nothing to discuss in pre mission screen - should i take this or that, what our team needs boyz? Pls take anti boss etc. Well, pre-mission screen is non-existant, 1 minute timer nonsense, no pause, lol.
And there barely any synergy. Every class has all rounder build with dmg vs everything + defensive/toughness farm abilities. Every each of you just need to kill things fast and that’s it. Ping ammo sometimes.
In HD2 you can reload teammates’ heavy weapons working in pair like a heavy weapon squad, or like you need teammate to cover you cause can’t move while reloading machinegun. A proper hub and pre-mission screen where you can coordinate loadouts and stratagems. Friendly fire is also a huge thing that makes you feel the pressence of others.
DRG - nuff said, every class has unique gadgets and roles.
GTFO - all about communication, coordinate actions, gadgets.
I don’t agree. I mean, yeah, there’s no discussion going on, but from what I can tell there’s a bunch of popular HD2 “builds” (i.e. weapons + strategems) that everyone seems to be running with anyway, not really talking things over either. I guess if the meta choices aren’t available then I suppose that’s when things can be discussed, but generally from what I saw on streams people pick whatever they want (usually shotgun + railgun + shield / that flying turret and a bunch of airstrikes or turrets), and there’s little discussion either.
And the difference between classes in DT is definitely greater than in HD2, which… well, doesn’t really have classes at all, so it’s not really a competition. Plus you can’t expect every DT team to have each class, so them being at least somewhat rounded makes sense, otherwise half the time you’d be boned because the matchmaking didn’t bring class X for a mission. My overall point is that DT’s mechanics inherently encourage, if not flat out demand, cooperation (from helping downed players and disabler enemies to the concept of coherency). Whereas HD2 does not have anything like that and people running off solo in 4 different directions is a viable tactic, apparently.
That said I do agree that HD2 does the social aspects outside of the actual mission a lot better. Heck, it does everything outside of the actual missions better than DT, but I feel that’s already been established. ![]()
Cause balance in HD2 is trash currently.
But it doesn’t, every class can kite solo cause it’s easy both to refill toughness and have damage in your build. Coherency bonuses is just miniscule to worried about much, it’s rly only about disablers, and not like they insta punish you for being alone, for any seasoned player who can push dog and dodge net it’s not even a problem in 99% of the time.
Only to some degree, considering how much of fire power comes from aoe stratagems, you want to hold your ground together and not accidentally FF you teammates that are running somewhere around. Also armored vehicle incoming, so even more squad fun.
I really love the Arrowhead communication, their CMs and CEO are great and open.
It’s obvious they are gamers too and know how to make priorities well:
That is pretty sweet, I’m not gonna lie.
Any CEO that is proactive in communication to their customer base or internally at work has my instant approval.
