Another (funny) Helldivers 2 Comparison

Long story short, today for HD 2 the Railgun, which was considered the best support (tertiary) weapon was nerfed, and this has made people really, really upset.

The whole situation has just reminded me of when the power sword got its nerf months ago. People saying the game is literally unplayable, devs took all the fun out, they balances it on the worst way possible etc.

Not commenting on balance choices or how things “should” be balanced (although I do have my own opinions), it’s just the response to the latest HD patch gave me Deja Vu and it made me laugh.

It did need to be nerfed… But the recoilless, spear and eats need to be better.

i mean people that left for similar reasons show the same reaction in another franchise, grass aint greener on the other side.

that being said, having a fresh ip, one would have to be totally daft not to expect “corrections” after the first batch of field data came in.

did i enjoy can opener on every ripper shot, yes indeed.
was i up in arms when it was patched, not really.

like jeff goldblum would say: ogryn finds a way

I was using the PS today. It still absolutely rocks.

I bet the Railgun will still rock too.

I saw numerous posts on various media saying there is no point in using anything but the Railgun so afaic its a good thing.

Iv yet to use the RG much, just a few occasions when a friend passed one across. I wasnt actually impressed tbh, I much prefer bringing democracy with the Grenade launcher vs bugs and the Anti-Mat rifle vs the bots.

As someone who only brings the counter sniper diligence, p4-senator, and spear. I felt nothing from the patch.

I like the nerf. The gun was a do everything.

Does exactly what it used to, but it requires that you actually play the game now.
Same as the other “nerfs”, while the rest of the patch brought in more great options to the table.

Arrowhead’s patching policy was then disambiguated in an entire article…

But, average gamers need ways to bruteforce games, same as it has been, same as it always will be. So - salt. In terms of community feedback, there’s little difference between the games.

I see people running flamers more. Gave it a go, its about 1/2 to 3/4 canister to the leg where it’s weaker on Charger to drop them.

Don’t need to be accurate as it’s big cone of fire, makes it easier to strafe and spam it. Then at the same time you can swing left to right for smaller mobs without switching to another weapon. Pretty versatile after flamer 50% buff.

They increased recoil for breaker. But it seems to not matter as the sights reset down so quickly still with semi fire.

I always make sure there is elevation nearby before engaging charger to kite around, over etc like small hills or aggro it over towards nice obstacles for it. Never in the open.

Then charger gets slowed trying to traverse around or over obstacles whilst kiting it.

I quite liked the flamer. It even performed better than I thought it would vs the bots!

My friend is in love with the Arc thrower, although he is a bit of a menace with it as he keeps hitting us, tho we cannot help but laugh!

I dont play with randoms on HD2 so idk what the “meta” is without social media :innocent:

My friend and I think of it like D2 Firewall sorc. Fun Kite. I do think jetpack flamer will be around more often now

I found some great randoms to play with, but a few have a terrible habit of friendly fire with stratagem’s more than trigger discipline. Ive tried joining random lobbies but have been insta-kicked quite often. I would recommend hosting a lobby if playing with randoms.

Just wait, the public honeymoon period with HD2 will be over sooner or later. We will be able to copy / paste some of our own rants and complaints from this forum to theirs.

Considering I can run solo, I doubt I will be running with randoms any time soon.

Only reason I run with randoms on V2 is because I am good enough to help people out and even then, I dont play on higher difficulty with randoms, they are a difficulty increase in and of itself.

I only play with randoms on DT because I cannot play solo and my friends dont like the Tide games.

It’s made me always look at the terrain more. Where can retreat, drops over cliffs, places to climb, rocks or small hils to kite around. Always looking out for obstacles before shooting anything and constantly using tab to look at map to avoid patrols. I look at map too much I think. “where can I retreat…” always on my mind…

Unfortunately random match making is horrible. None of my friends want to play this game and honesty I rather quick jump in and jump out without needing to organise a group.

  • Kicked just before extraction
  • Kicked on joining a group because they don’t know how to turn on private mode
  • Kicked and told I was not running railgun meta on a T4 mission.
  • Shot in the back without any enemies around to take my weapon then kick me

Solution is to host, but it adds delay to call SOS and someone to jump in and you’re solo for a while in beginning. I mean if people start to host due to fear of getting kicked, not a good feeling.

Really puts me off. Not a fault of the game itself.

Friendly fire is realism. But it can lead to alot of misunderstanding and hard to tell between accident, on purpose or simply language barrier to call out the airstrikes.

I know most people might be against it but I feel friendly fire should be off. It will still make the game fun and stop misunderstandings.

it’s still really good, though. it does less damage on safe mode, but only p***ies used it on safe mode anyways lol the nerf to “durable armour”, whatever tf that means, seems negligible.

on another note, as much as i’m liking hd2, i have to give props to fatshark for there general game design choices, even if they don’t work all the time. like, in hd2, there are essentially zero sound cues to speak of. the bugs with chatter and hiss and you when you encounter them, letting you know, that THEY know, that you’re there, but if you happen to miss that interaction, or not know which direction it initially came from, you gotta be hyper aware lol

apparently the chargers and even titans are all wearing ninja tabi, because they’ll sneak up on you on a regular basis and that’s just bad game design. hopefully arrowhead addresses that because it’s a pretty big deal. even regular enemies should have sound cues and tells whenever they’re about to attack, but they don’t. you’ll be shooting in one direction and then suddenly be stun-locked to death without any warning lol

Darktide lost 11k and then 22k average players the first two months (from 42k average in the release month) thats 27% and 70% of the new average

helldivers lost ~7k in its first month from an average 274k players (release date 8th feb)
image
not saying the trend can’t get much worse but 2.75% average player loss is as healthy as it gets for retention (probably the healthiest retention i’ve ever seen tbh)

That might have something to do with the stellar communication, rapid identification and mitigation of issues, solid patch phylosophy and launching with a future content plan and content already on the way at launch…

Don’t quote me, just a feeling.

Quippy sarcasm aside - HD2 is historic at this point. Sales are increasing, which is very rare at this stage of a release, player retention is almost unbelievable, community response is overwhelming. And just the confirmed content leaks are driving engagement, let alone the speculations.

If this is a fad game and the honeymoon is about to be over, I don’t see it and will humbly accept my lack of perception…

It’s very funny I tried really hard to steer this away from talking about HD 2 balance and moreso the community reaction, and it still ended up being that. Nothing wrong with it just funny.

The HD2 talk in this forum cannot be contained. It started before HD2 launched, even.
I tried making a thread dedicated to comparing the two games, and by the time it hit 100 replies, 3 new threads had popped up already.

Must be something that makes that comparison evident and self-replicating (and we can write a volume on that subject alone, really).

it’s that a lot of people playing darktide were hoping for something more like helldivers, and ignored the actual gameplay until they’d bought it. i have no idea why they thought it wouldn’t be a co-op survival shooter but now we’re here and there’s a bunch of people mad there’s a co-op survival shooter.

i will say the voice wheel needs a rework, dunno why we even have an enemy sighted option on there when we can also ping enemies.
