Been playing Helldivers 2 recently and

HD2 has dropped a new patch.

Said patch doesn’t fix literally every problem in the game, but they do fix a LOT.

The AT meta? Adjusted spawn rates to favor armored enemies less and give people breathing room.

The annoying and downright impossible civilian retrieval missions? Removed for reworking.

The modifier that reduced your stratagem count? Also gone.

Virtually every gun has gotten buffed to match the standout weapons and encourage diverse load outs.

They explain their reasoning for all their changes too.

This is a pretty effective turnaround. Most of these issues were percolating for less than a month really, or at least getting talked about for about that time.

Take karking notes Fatshark. This is why they’re stealing your lunch money.

I’ve got some mixed feelings about that patch, like why did the Tenderizer get a damage boost to a whopping 90 and no other AR got a damage increase except for the global AP buffs, but yes, in general it is certainly a clear step in the right direction. Except the off map automaton gunship spawns. Whoever came up with that idea can politely go fudge themselves.

Funny enough I only have 19 hours in DRG and I last played 4 years ago but this update made me reinstall it. Maybe the combat is a bit better now.

Everything seems really nice but I would honestly need to sit down and play with it.

Tbh I’m fine with every AR not just bulldozing larger enemies and the combo of having more light enemies + the changes to armoured limb health might do the trick.

Many strats seem to have been improved with the ability to do more to armor while also getting other buffs.

I’m glad the AA defence modifier is just gone as well as the annoying escort mission.

It seems great.

This alone makes me so happy. Absolutely hated this modifier, not so much because of the extra pressure it imposed on completing the mission, but more in that it limited the toys you got to play with and forced you to drop and play in a more min-max’d fashion.

Maybe with the new modifiers for Haz 5+? However for me the base combat loop is still pretty boring. I was getting bored on modded higher difficulties so I don’t see myself getting sucked back into DRG anytime soon.

Also Rocket Pods still being abysmal in HD 2 is hilarious, and I hope they always remain trash as a joke.

Guys the pocket shotgun from Helldivers 2 has the same damage per shot as the punisher and can dump all 3 shots in a single shot if it wanted to since it’s a triple barrel.

The Darktide double barrel isn’t even out yet and it’s already shoved it down the stairs and then rolled a shopping card down after it.

To me the biggest issue is that the new HD2 shotgun appear to actually have some decent utility within the context of the rest of the game, whereas a break action shotgun in a Darktide context sounds like an absolute dog turd of a weapon unless it’s getting wildly exaggerated characteristics like a grapeshot blast and inhumanely fast reload times. I hope I’m wrong on that, we’ll have to see.

Yeah I mean of all the weapons possible to add, that’s what they went with? A double barrel shotgun? Never mind Hellguns, Longlas’, Meltas, Plasma Pistols and so on and so forth I guess, bring on the iconic Warhammer 40k Double Barrel shotgun.

I mean there are a few things people pointed out, it’s short range, it doesn’t have a speed loader, it can sometimes be inconsistent but this is all stuff i can live with when it comes to something that is essentially a holdout weapon. In most situations things will be amazingly close to you when you need to use it and a short barrelled shotgun does the job in that situation 99.9% of the time.

As a main weapon? Unless you got the reload reflexes of doom guy, can load special shells on the fly like slugs, fire, acid, or have some other thing going for it i just don’t see a world where it would be a great thing to replace the already existing shotguns minus for the sake of variety.

It just screams “We are trying to play catch up so add something that works right now and we don’t need to spend a lot of time on” which is confusing when coming up on 2 years into a game’s lifespan.

I just don’t understand how you can so chronically make such poor judgement calls. Where is the outcry for a double barrel shotgun? No one cares about this thing and if they do, they only do because it has now been brought up as a thing. There are countless calls for actual iconic 40k weapons that fit perfectly well into the arsenal we already have, yet this is what they come up with? On what basis? What qualified this peasants weapon over all the other, much more interesting and sought after ones? It doesn’t make any kind of sense.

I think if someone asked me "hey would you rather they add a Meltagun or a Double Barrel as much as im a stanch supporter of the church of the shotgun i would probably go for the Melta because it would mean new and interesting gameplay implications (hopefully) and be something we don’t already have like 10 copies of.

Like if they added a shotgun with exclusively frag or man stopper or special ammo then yeah, that would be neat, that would be fresh but as it stands we get a lot of the same thing.

Looking at Helldivers they have a lot of shotguns and even a lot of similar models but they all feel distinct.

Even the basic Punisher compared to the Breaker has different advantages, disadvantages, use cases, and variants that all feel very different from each other. While the breaker is godly vs bugs it’s not great vs bots. The slugger has it’s moments vs larger enemies but the breaker incendiary is great when you are surrounded by hordes of things. The punisher plasma can stun groups of bots and kill them easily but the spray n pray can shred hordes of smaller bugs with it’s big mag and fast fire rate.

Right now a lot of the side grades in Darktide just don’t feel good to use and mostly it’s just Good one, bad one, and ok one in niche situitions if you are lucky.

This is so true for almost all weapons and it’s so unnecessary.
