Been playing Helldivers 2 recently and

To continue the meme, Pilestedt literally donated money to charity in recognition of the Helldivers saving kids.

Fatshark wishes it could interact with its community this well.

Yeah was just about to post that.

Honestly it’s pretty amazing in general.

God bless 'em. It’s almost as if corporations and their employees don’t actually have to exclusively act like bloodsucking cash vampires 24/7 till the day they retire. Who’da thunk it?

By constantly committing to the bit and not being excessively corporate in their behavior (yes FOMO shop and paid content, sure, but that’s turning the clock back on over a decade of corporate malfeasance so it feels refreshing), Arrowhead has built a loving community that embraces the memes and plays the game because, guess what, it’s fun.

They’re not perfect. They make a ton of bugs. But they have built a game that works by investing in their players and having fun with them.

Fatshark just systematically annihilates community goodwill from orbit then wonders why people are so hostile to them and gives up on talking.

And here’s the kicker; AH is more successful because of it.

The formula for success in the video game world isn’t exactly complicated. Make a good game because you are driven by a creative instinct to do so rather than cynically to make money.

Honestly the shrieker and gunship patrols seem awful.

Maybe people will actually run the air cluster Strat now.

The shriekers are pretty inconsequential but the gunship patrols are horrible. Don’t know who had the idea that that would be a welcome addition. The automatons already suffer from total rocket spam and this isn’t exactly making it better.

With the new cooldowns and extra Eagle runs, some friends and I ran some games yesterday with just orbital and airstrikes.

Gunships turned out to be a surprising hardcounter to that strat :joy:, requiring Orbital Lasers to remove, but aside from that hiccup, it was a marvelous symphony of skyborne violence. There was just always something on hand to drop on every little dude that popped up.

Had more luck with autocannon than with that piece of garbage.

He should’ve spent that money on fixing tbe sight on the HMG not some stupid kids (this is a joke)!

Additionally it reinforces making players only wanting to bring Medium Pen weapons. Less Hulk spam is good because you don’t neccesarily have to bring a weapon to deal with 20 of them, but Gunship Patrols reintroduce that but in an even worse way because it’s nearly impossible to counter them with stratagems, and don’t have a large light armor weakspot.

Man, the game GM lost respect from me. He says he’s A D&D player, but one of the most common rules in any RPG is leave kids out of it. The fact that you could choose between children and a stratagem is bad form. Hopefully they won’t use cheap emotional appeals like that again.

Crossposting because I want to make the comparison here.

The ‘shirtless bug’ really showcases the difference between Fatshark’s approach and Arrowhead’s.

Fatshark refused to implement a ‘shirtless’ cosmetic despite the massive popularity of using the glitch and then claimed GW was keeping them from adding one (this is pretty transparently BS, especially since we currently have a shirtless Ogryn skin in the shop right now).

Arrowhead has embraced the memes. Malevelon Creek? Gets remembered and everyone gets a free cape. Massive numbers of Helldivers show up? This gets addressed in the reasoning for why the major order got knocked out so fast. The kids get saved rather than AT mines? Literally send money to charity.

Did you miss the intro trailer to the game where a woman and child are murdered in front of a father?

Helldivers isn’t D&D, and there’s plenty of RPGs feature all sorts of dark content involving children.

More to the point, we’re on a discussion board for a game that takes place in a universe where unspeakable things happen to everyone, including minors. If you’ve ever read the Tempestus Scion lore GW started writing in 6E/7E, it reads like Harry Potter murderhouse fanfic, there is such a thing as a “Correction Throne”, and it gets so much worse. Darktide conveniently offers you the ability to buy Tempestus Scion cosmetics and play as a happy graduate of such an upbringing.

It was a hilarious trolley problem meme. And an interesting social experiment. Would players be callous and choose the thing that only gives a mechanical change? Or would they RP into it?

And I don’t know about you, but kids seem to come up in a lot of TTRPGs. Look at how many are in BG3, the closest video game translation recently to DnD system done well.

Idk man. If i was in charge of brand managing for GW and I saw the sad excuses for body types and hideous beige underwear Fatshark had concocted I probably would ban them from being displayed too. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I forgot about this. Like the first druid encampment you get to has an encounter where the player can engineer or allow the death of a child involving a venomous snake.

Can’t the Goblin kids get killed by Halsin?

There’s also the kids that steal from you.

Not to mention all the kids over the age of 7 that can enlist into the helldivers corp and work in the war machine. They have ads on the super destroyer. Love the small child’s hand holding the small wrench (incorrectly) doing their part.

The children yearn for the frontlines.

As I said before, the Children will make for far better payload delivery systems than the current minelayers
