Another Ogryn Thread; Feedback

I made this to show that I think even having a discussion on the big man is good. Any bit of feedback is useful regarding the state of the game as devs follow these forums. Hopefully they will make the changes.

Biggest issues for the Ogryn currently, that most I think agree on is:

Toughness & Shooters; he really suffered from the changes to toughness and the additive values of the toughness dmg resistance; this should be rolled back partly, as he now feels clumsy but does not feel “tanky”; he is too brittle. I am talking about engaging shooters, and covering the distance. Give him back the toughness he had before. Most ppl who comment on “him being fine”: have literally not played him or understand that he should be a tanky class: that can rip the turret of a tank: and no I do not want to use slide to scoot around and try to avoid shooters; I want to charge in the midst of them and come out on top.

Having the Bull Charge; replenish toughness like 20% at the start of the charge would help a lot to close the distance: as he is often dropped by shooters; when charging.

Stun immunity; during Bull Charge: stun immunity to dogs and nets would really be appreciated
Getting stuck: He is 3 ton guy; so his dodge should knock down smaller enemies.

Why: Because lore; not everything needs to be “balance for balances sake”: its about the fantasy of playing an ogryn.

Ripper Gun: Needs more damage or umph to add to the feeling of clearing the rooms with it. Its blessings do not function so great. Especially as the strenght from emptying the mag does not do much: similarly the crit change with bleed is ok, but the chance to crit is not so high even with the blessing to prok the crits. + Adding just 5% to reload speed, would make it really great plus some buff to damage.

Grenade gauntlet: my god it is awful: never use it is just bad all around: like so bad. Melee so slow: damage even worse.

Finally suggestion for cosmetics; would it be possible to get a backpack with various medals, that would be added; pending what we have accomplished: or a slot wear them on the armor: shoulder, or chest; perhaps a shoulder pad or similar: would be really cool for bragging rights. This would I think increase immersion and allow us to show who the vets are in game. Without it being too obtrusive

As the portraits and the titles do not do so much. It would be cool to show them on the character.

This should have been in the game day 1.

“Can’t stop me!” Unless it’s a trapper, mutant, dog, explosion, or being staggered by literally anything at the wrong time.

They should also be able to pull teammates up from ledges much faster at least for human sized teammates.

or just the map itself, where sometimes it can be difficult to vault for no reason as ogryn

It would be really cool if they could bull charge while carrying a vacuum capusle/cryonic rod/power cell

He still feels tanky (and i’m not even using toughness on my curios).
I got dropped my shooters mid charge too, but that was over a year ago. It’s all a matter of positioning and/or suppression. Not wanting to use all mechanics the game offers you is another thing, but i don’t judge you on that, as sliding Ogryns feel strange.
If you want to charge through a big room while X shooters empty their mags on you…
well, i don’t think even the thoughest ogryn would survive that.

I don’t think it should be stun immunity, but that dogs and nets just miss you when you charge. No matter what, the result is the same: your charge will not be interrupted.

It had a stronger mellee at some time, but they nerved it as it should not replace your actual mellee weapon. It’s more like a “get stuff out of your face while shooting” thing (and a ogryn thing to just use everything as a club)

This would be great, but at the same time would not make sense. An Ogryn could carry it in his armpit while charging. But a Zealot, that can’t even run with it, how would he manage to do a charge while holding it?

Bonus idea: instead of a capsule, let us take a teammate with us in our armpit for the charge

Death by slightly tall handrail is indeed very boring

yep, pal. i take issue especially with a scrawny puppy immediately ending an ogryn’s charge, it’s really annoying on hunting grounds.
also the net dropping him point blank. even if it’s a taser net, that mass doesn’t stop cold.

as much as i love my ogryn

(i basically am ogryn by now, cant even stop buying mcfarlane ogryn figures, like seriously… heeeelp…)

there needs to be balance in the game, otherwise it’ll get boring quick.

as far as the sliding mechanism goes, i’m with you.
that is NOT to say i want the game any slower, emperor knows i need my movement, flickshots and all the good stuff giving me my dopamine.

but a chap his size should rather dodge visibly instead of sliding on the floor like a dog with parasites coming out his ass.

his sheer size would let him shove about anything around with ease, why go prone in the first place.

dodging as a mechanic though i like.
love the flow you get into, reaching that matrix like state when you can literally feel the games physics.

its the beauty of darktide for me.

toughness however is something that only runs out if i messed up severely or mis-positioned myself.

and thats me going almost full left tree and carrying health curios.

the beauty of ogryn is in the way he gets his toughness back while being in the thick of it,
whacking heretics front left and center.

enough punies to smash means lotsa toughness to go on with.

another agreeable point is that bullrush still is processed < disablers in general.

even if the net flies past behind me, it magically catches on sometimes having crossed paths at some point it seems.

same goes for doggos. big man charges faster(?) than doggo charges yet server says otherwise and puts the pup in your lap.

thats stuff i’d say ogryn weight and size should be a factor, if not than speed and “better” collision at least.

as for ripper, its literally “fine” ripper v sometimes eclipses my kickback in terms of damage output.

grenade launcher isnt that terrible, doesnt allow for taking the “wrong engagements” its rather pinpoint single target with a boom attached.

sub-par blessings dont help either cant go wrong with brittleness and the aimtime=damage one though.

apologies, tired memory doesnt remember the proper names right now

cosmetics,
cant go wrong with the more the merrier. i stick to my suggestion keeping “trophies” like mangled heads and limbs, for show and rashuns.

inquisition allows green orc fingers, so i guess a scab gunner squished helmet wouldnt be a prob either.

 for emprah an rashuns, sah

Or just ranged attack immunity while charging. Snipers can ruin a bull charge fairly quickly as well.

That one random barrel that your teammate accidentally shoots while your charging

Figured I’d add my piece to this as well. Honestly, can only agree with this. Me and a friend went on a tangent discussing this while playing to, they recently made an Ogryn as they like the big tank classes in games, and basically as soon as we got back to Auric difficulty (about 3 games after), they swapped right back to Zealot.

Ogryns at this point kinda don’t, do anything? Like, their main draw, their bread and butter, the thing they seem to really want to be built around, is taunting enemies and getting things to attack them. They are big for that reason, they eat shots for small fry, this good yes?

And in anything that’s like, Heresy or bellow, sure! But the moment you get to auric, on Emperor forbid Maelstrom, they just get specialed and do nothing. Dogs practically magnetize to them on spawn, nets are nearly impossible to dodge by them without a high defense/mobility weapon equipped, and even then you gotta reallly know your surroundings so you don’t just bump into something and still fall over. And mutants are mutants, but at least those don’t take you completely out of the fight.

Basically the only successful Ogryns I’ve ever seen HAVE to have a shield equipped, and pretty much have to have the team baby sitting them at all times to make sure WHEN (not if, when) they get specialed, they are immediately helped to get back up. This is the only Ogryn that’s viable, every other variant I’ve seen just seems like they are having the hardest time ever, and after trying them out for the past few days again, I can confirm that yes, they are indeed having the hardest of times.

I feel even just being able to activate any of the Ogryn’s active abilities to ‘pop out’ of these sorts of scenario’s and gain like breif immunity to it would go along way. I understand balance is a thing, but right now Ogryns literally don’t have to tools like the other classes have to deal with these, while also literally having entire sections of their tree’s dedicated to yelling at the horde ‘HAY! IMMOBILIZE ME! ONLY ME! OVER AND OVER PLEASE!’ . It just feels terrible, and at this point you either just sit in the back BEHIND your small team mates and act like a budged Reaper, or do the shield build above and reallly hope your team mates like you.

I think it would be great to have that NOT be the case, and let Ogryns actually function as tanks in this video game. They already have their shortcomings, their weapons are short range outside of emperor tier aim, their bulky, they are slow, they have nothing that counteracts this. Let them lumber along. Hell, I’d even take ‘push mashing’ to escape these predicaments over just, being a genetically modified human built only for strength, toughness, and brawn,

Defeated by a tiny net that barely wraps around my waste, or a small dog literally the size of my hand.

Anybody have a Rumbler-focused build/playstyle that works for them, where the Rumbler’s your main weapon?

I find it’s nice on melee-focused builds for bonking the odd special on the head, and occasionally very useful for reaching targets out of LoS, but with a ranged-build it never seems to compare well to a stubber, kickback, or ripper.

This is mostly a meme, you can run rumbler on any build, but I do like to pretend to be demoman every now and then.

OG shovel with brutal momentum and confident strike for peak meme gameplay. Always mix pushing with your melee attacks.

Just taunt hyper dense hordes and shoot at the floor. Save the big nade until you need to taunt 30 elites, ig. It’s really hard to play badly like this unless you just never attempt to dodge disablers. I don’t want to be too exaggerated, but you can shoot maybe three times a horde.

Versus groups of shooters, don’t waste all of your ammo. If a nade doesn’t kill it, it should be knocked over and give you enough time to walk up at a leisurely pace and whap it in the face.

@MixedLetters you need to play more ogryn. Shield ain’t the be all end all, I promise you it’s not that crazy to be ogryn in Auric Maelstrom.

i wonder if there could be some mechanic where if you melee correctly you can catch a dog or throw a net away. Would that be overpowered or just hilarious. Ogryns should be strong enough to just chuck those puny specials, would kill to have some sort of special or grenade that let you do that.

also I would just like the ripper gun to not have a weird stutter. I don’t know if it’s just me but when I pull the trigger it feels like it needs to warm up and that makes actual use so much harder especially with a slow rate of fire.

my standards are A LOT lower. please just fix ogryn mantling and make improve quickswap/blitz equiping speeds.
ogryn attack speed is balanced around having heavy hitter so your base attack speed and equip speed is low
ogryns base toughness/toughness dr is balanced around having fnp so you take chip damage easily
ogryns crit chance is balanced around having luckly bullet so you have no base crit
i think ogryn could use some love tbh
