It was still hard as hell but very doable, as well as fun as hell. Meanwhile basic level 4 difficulty seems and feels like endless horde without the damn modifier, which can be fun but almost just seems like overcompensating or something, dunno.
Yep you are alone 
While I don’t think the difficulty should be lowered, there is a bug where you join a 4/5 mission WITHOUT any modifiers, which then when joined still apply the endless horde modifier. This has happened to me about 50% of the time, if not more. I think this is what you have also experienced. The way you can check if the bug happens to you, is pressing TAB when loaded in the map. Pressing tab shows you the mission name, type and the modifiers if any are applied.
And yes, I have seen missions that show no modifier also, so it’s not a UI bug that always shows endless horde if nothing else is applied.

I didnt know that but can explain sometimes mission is painfull, happened rarly anyway but need to be fix
Lol, no. It should be removed all together, or they should give us ability to set mission parameters manually.

the less intensity maps feel significantly easier than normal, and normal maps on tier 4 are manageable, you just haven’t adjusted to the flow of the AI director

I cant stand low intensity and less horde missions they are way too easy and super boring. Your on your own here.
