Aggro and Tanking - Rework Ogryn a bit

ha, yeah, did that. my friend is the psyker and he was like “how is it possible that you are still at full health while im down to 20% ?!”

the same way that no one complained about them not being tanks or tanks in Vermintide…

Tanks in Tide games ain’t like Tanks in other games… Tanks in Tide games are just exceptionally good at controlling a horde and/or can survive more hits.

They’ll generally have wee less DPS, but the survivability of a party goes way up, but it’s not like it’s a make or break scenario whether you have one or not, however each class do have a subrole.

The Ogryn class is supposed to be a tank, that’s what their kit revolves around, reducing damage and supporting their team. You can still build an Ogryn differently, eg. a melee dps, but then you would be better off with Zealot.

The thing is, we have very few launch classes. Come subclasses you’ll see all classes being able to branch out and do other roles instead, that time is not yet and while you technically “can” do other roles you are likely to just end up being unpopular.

Eg. a Vet wants to play Melee Vet and not focus on their job which is to murder range, elites and specials… These Power Sword only Vets gets kicked so fast from Damnation games that it’s honestly a joke they even try to play that way.

I’m typically against most things that can’t be turned off. There’s plenty of situations where you don’t want to force mobs onto you as well. Particularly when it would replace something I consider much more generally useful. Enemy aggro can already be screwy at times, I’d rather not add more things that make enemies act erratically. I honestly dislike when a veteran I’m playing with has camo expert for this reason.

That’s narrow minded.

Spreading the aura is pretty important both for the toughness regen and for keeping everybody having everyone’s buffs in the first place. Since you should typically be the midliner in the first place (Assuming a balanced party; eg: Zealot in front, ogryn, psyker, veteran), the aura increase directly synergizes with ogryn already. You keep the chain going. It also enables the aforementioned, moving forward to tank in situations where you need to keep maximum enemies on you in lieu of a choke.

The issue there isn’t the aura increase, it’s that the ogryn passive is mediocre at best. I was actually discussing that last night with a friend, I’d much rather see ogryn have something like a health damage reduction or a flat melee damage increase aura. (I also think their toughness feats need reworked as well)

Only thing that would make me take a shield is if it had a high damage single target accompanying weapon, like axe and shield from V2.

Idea, shield and sap glove/gauntlet. The glove deals armour pen single target high damage lights, and because its a glove you can heavy attack with the shield faster. Or make it an axe/warpick and smaller shield you cant plant. Not really fussed, just want more variety.

Yeah, axe and shield on Bardin was about the only shield weapon I liked as it filled a specific niche of horde management while still having the ability to deal with armor.

Darktide has already brought back the issue of chaos warriors crushers taking 5 billion hits without an armor piercing weapon. Hopefully they adjust it in general.

Also hopefully they implement some shields that don’t make me want to rip them off my arm because they take up my entire screen even when I’m not holding block.

Personally I don’t think he is a tank though. I just think he is a beefy support. (for a few reasons)

If there’s anyone I want up last man standing, its the ogryn (he is built specifically to be that guy), I can think of only 1 definitive situation where id want an ogryn using a shield (demon host), the rest of the time, i dont want him up the front blocking vision and firing line.

Can flamestaff stagger elites like Bulwarks, Ragers, and Crushers in 5 difficulty with Psyker’s talent or just weapon performance? If they can, I need to level up my lv4 Psyker now.

If it can’t, it’s yet another horde control weapon, not insanely powerful.

well, Flamer is a very good horde clear, if not the best.
And Psyker does not need ammo for it, which makes it great at higher difficulty.

based on what my friend told me, it is not strong enough to reliably stagger Ogryns, but strong enough to stop hordes.

In a game where we’re not limited by class amount in a lobby I just want ogryn to be able to have more options in general. Make the class more flexible IMO.
