About bots again

I’d pay for that. I can’t play QB with randoms (internet + stress), so having competent bots would be a game changer.

I know the kind of anxiety you might be facing and I’m not here to judge, but I do believe the community is way nicer than what you fear it is.
I can only makes assumptions as to what would cause stress in playing with randos, but mistakes happen, failures happen ; and the only advice I can give is communicate. Not only because it will prevent some mistakes, but mostly because it builds some sympathy and people tend to gloss over those mistakes with a smile if you’re not “another anonymous a**hole rando on the internet who happened to suck this once”.

Back on topic, bots are ok until they’re idiots. I don’t mind having to snipe specials cause that’s just what I do, whether I play with bots or players. Elite pinging is also not a priority for me, though tagging specials would be nice when they’re behind a wall of Chaos Warriors for instance.
The things I do prioritize is them standing on your downed body and picking their nose (with a dagger) instead of rezing, and all 3 getting downed by a roger’s slam - which doesn’t happen in ‘perfect’ situations, but does often as soon as variables like other enemies or terrain or a shout displacing the monster come into play.

I thought by stress he meant annoyance/unfun.

And yeah, I used to enjoy playing with both bots and players on Legend (on Cata I’d stick to players), now I don’t enjoy VT2 at all anymore with bots. I used to use them to try new builds out on Legend before QPing with those builds, now I only play with friends or dive straight into QP, bots have gone from stupid to frustrating. I rather any amount of latency and the odd crashes than babysitting three AIs with the intelligence and self-preservation ability of three scallops in a ring with a seagull.

They were always stupid, but some time ago when I used to do full book missions on Legend with them they could at least survive, now if I take them on Legend they lose most their health very early and start to die after that. I tried a few Champion missions to investigate where I mainly just existed and survived watching them, same problem. They’re definitely worse at blocking/avoiding damage now.

the bots are a bit better against specials. they kill specials a bit faster and will actially shoot leeches. other than that i havent really seen any noticable improvement in the other areas.

its because the bot improvement did too little, and it didnt even properly fix the special chasing problem.

Ran into a good example of bot issues today.

Got downed in a mission next to saltzpyre bot. Was getting stomped by some trash mobs and an Assassin. Saltz stopped the Assassin, but then another bot got grabbed by a hookrat and saltz just left me lying there to go chase the hookrat across the map with his melee weapon. He came back a bit later as I was at 10% red hp, looked like he was going to try a revive, there were four skaven slaves nearby, but then he ran away from me to solo fight a chaos warrior while I died.

They should be able to prioritize things like revives, especially on players. It’s like they don’t realize that bardin bot dying is less important than the run being over due to player death.

Bots are broken.
Bardin literally stood above me while I was getting stabbed to death by an assassin.

On the contrary, it feels like they’re worse now.

Yeahh, had all three bots going down to a single gas rat today since they refused to get out of the fog… This is turning into an urgent priority issue.

Maybe I’m imagining it, but since SoT patch the bots don’t stick as close to the player as they did before and the ‘running after specials’ behaviour is more common.

I did have a hilarious Rat Ogre fight last night though, all three bots were standing on top of each other and moving backwards/forwards in absolute unison whenever the ROgre attacked, landing their hits without taking a single point of damage back. That was a beauty to behold.

Recently, in my new bot compo, I decided to include the outcast. Since I do the elf challenges (18/20 for the moment but since a bug challenge and the other I have to do 25 games …) Anyway. I decided to put the engineer with me for his passive 10% ranged damage, with a big offensive build + Witch hunter (25% damage target) It’s pretty cool on paper, but the outcast (equipped of the Trollhammer) braindead a little, he is often in switch of weapon between his ulti and the trollhammer. Otherwise, the outcast with double hammer + trollhammer still ended with good stats

Look, this is just not funny: I write about Patch 3.3 Change - Bots & Ammo problems. And this problem is ignored! Ammo Boxes just kill me!

Now I’m playing Vermintide 1 again and what I see:

At the same time:

Despite the fact that this problem was in Vermintide 2, it was solved - until patch 3.3 appear, but after the bug got out again. I have written bug reports many times, but without any result.

This bug makes my life very difficult in BOTH GAMES! Really, dear @Fatshark_Hedge - do you think there is no problem here ??!

UPDATE: Another cruel problem: in V1 and V2, bots often don’t like to jump down and don’t teleport in such a situation:

Especially if I collect all the Tomes, Grimoires and Dices, is there a good chance of getting Red? The game says: #%$@ you, not Red!

In this particular case, I am sure the ammo box close to the hole played a fatal role. The bots also stay expected ammo.

I’ve had enough of V1 for now.

One problem I have noticed about bots is that they lack aggressiveness towards any enemies. They take too long to react sometimes and they take unnecessary blows

The original bot improvements mod of Verm1 had contributions from a very large number of authors and was bundled together by Grimalackt. Grim also ported the initial mod into Verm2 and was invited at a community-held Verm1 event organized shortly before the release of Chaos Wastes. In the section dedicated to modding discussions I asked him to say a few words about his work on bot improvements, as I thought it was an interesting topic. His answer was that he put quite a lot of work into developing the mod a ways beyond the level where it got initially sanctioned, but as FS never really showed any interest in it, he eventually gave up.

The only blatant “cheats” Verm1 bots ever indulged in were the insta-no-scope headshots, which mind you they still pull off even in Verm2 and apparently the only work-around that FS themselves managed to come up with is handicapping their use of ranged weapons to the point that they need to run over entire countries in order to shoot a special at point blank range. Meanwhile trudging through 3 waves worth of hordes and a patrol.

I can understand bots not being a priority given that the community is still quite active and you don’t have any issues filling lobbies (elf enthusiasm aside). The depressing bit is that even in their current state, bots tend to be more reliable than what you find those lobbies.

This is the case right now, that much is true. Yet, the release of Darktide and second player migration draws closer by the week. Bot issues will be eventually highlighted when overall playercount drops, which causes further frustration and quitting. Perhaps I’m a bit of a drama queen here, but I just so happen to be one of those who are most affected by bad bots. I’d rather have the issue fixed while V2 is still under the spotlight, because when it no longer is getting through to devs will be nigh impossible.

I recently was playing a game where only myself and a bot, Bardin, were still standing. The two other players were in need of rescuing. There were a few enemies around, but for some odd reason I got jostled off a cliff ledge at a point of no return spot ( I love those, by the way. Very fun.)

Bardinbot was up on the top side of the cliff and literally walked over the two players needing rescuing so that he could join me down below, locking out the two players from the game since they were behind a point of no return.

I literally cried out “Bardin, noooo!”. Bots are really stupid.

Why FatSharks themselves don’t use this nice idea and create a paid patch for solo players? Named it, for example, “Tactica Imperialis DLC”.

Fixes for bots + advanced settings menu and manual controls for bots, as in mods.

To make it look specifically like a DLC - they can add the “Imperial Commander” frame (with many Purity Seals, I like it) and 100 shillings.

Seriously, this can reliably show FatSharks how many people REALLY are interested about solo play. Personally, I’m willing to pay the price as “DLC Forgotten Relics”. After all, I’ve been waiting for normal bots for 5 years.

To add to these points, several of the approved mods I am subscribed to have been waiting on FS to sanction the updates to them for three weeks now. Many mods on the workshop seem to be stuck in applied for sanctioning status for months if not years too, never getting denied or approved.

I can see why some modders would give up or not even want to give VT2 modding a go, which is a shame seeing as even basic functionality such as getting a numeric UI requires a workshop mod, so do bot loadouts so you don’t need to constantly reshuffle your gear for any potential bots in the party when switching around characters.

Chaos wastes + Khorne + blood tornados + bots = misery.

They just stop dead and refuse to move.
They make no effort to avoid them.

meanwhile, Bardin standing in a blood tornado says “I hate magic” …
Yes so does Khorne!

Exploding skulls are kinda worse if you get them late into a run, where density and spawns are much higher compared to early on.

If you’re lucky, the iron breaker survives while the rest die to easily avoidable ground damage that the bots literally ignore most of the time.

Sure solo chaos wastes with bots is doable, even citadel (although tonight was the first time I’d managed that on legend solo with three bots), but I wish the content had been designed while aware of how bad the bots AI is for all the curses (and their pathing issues).
