A very long, thoughtful, compelling, engaging, profoundly loquacious post about Ogryn slaps and punches

Gentlemen, abhumans, and lurking developers, I have a proposal regarding the Ogryn Bully Club slaps (all marks), the Bully Cleaver punches (all marks), and the Ogryn Latrine Shovel mk III.

We take these numbers

and we turn them into these numbers instead

How bout it?

You may think, “Whoa there, that’s power creep.”

And I say, yes that is.

You may also think “Whoa whoa whoa, how’s that effect the game?”

And I point out that it don’t, because Ogryn is explicitly a heavy attack focus class and the slaps/punches can no longer reliably stagger ragers, maulers, crushers, or bulwarks so they kind of exist for no reason.

I don’t want more damage for them I just want them to do their job, AKA reliably stagger things. I wanna slap several ragers out of their combo and uppercut maulers out of their overhead. That would be fulfilling the true Ogryn power fantasy better than more damage would to me.

One mysterious element of the turbo power creep they could have placed on more deserving weapons instead would be the ‘Pull’ debuff status the pickaxe specials inflict regardless of even inflicting a stagger. It causes the target to take 10% more damage from all sources for like 10s.

How is this not associated with slapping something and like 20% instead…

It’s 2024, old man. The halcyon days of Ogryns having remarkable and fun CC capabilities on all of their weapons are gone!

We have to keep with the damage trends. Big numbers only!

I high key don’t think there was even anything wrong with Ogryn bullying bosses around in melee as long as his own damage output is low while doing this. Just having the Ogryn lock a boss down for the team felt very cool.

Still can’t believe they took that out on purpose.

As far as I can remember, the only enemy that may have been too easy was the daemon host, since that thing is meant to punish teams, but full disclosure I never cared, damn things were always in the way and the emperor demands daemons get slapped.

Honestly if you happen to have an Ogryn with specifically non folding shovel enjoy the rare treat. Frankly wish club could do it too but daemonhost being shovel uppercut only while club slap and uppercut both work on chaos spawn and plogryn (with the right setup) would be very fine with me.

I don’t want them to stagger bosses. Or maybe they can stagger bosses, but on a longish cooldown. So bringing a weapon with a punch has the benefit of letting you stagger a boss once, which is a pretty decent benefit really (means you got two staggers with a charge, for ledging)

I do want them to actually do some damage. They don’t have to actually be a viable attack strategy (and they likely won’t be, cleave wise) but cmon, it’s an ogryn. They literally weigh over a ton. You’re telling me a 1 ton man can’t kill a little messed up groaner with a punch? I think it shouldn’t damage armor very much but I see no reason why this gigantic ogre hitting someone with a hook is taking 10+ punches to knock out a skinny unarmored heretic.

Also, staggering bulwarks should be a given. They removed that from almost all of them. Really really lame, if you nail a bulwark in the face with a punch he should keel over. Was very fun

while we are at it, ogryn weapons that have punches/slaps should be reworked to be incorporated into the moveset

shame that most special attacks dont do anything cool

I put some more thought towards this (many Nurgle worshippers were harmed), here’s what I got:

Stagger
Bodying ragers is amazing, it would be good to have some more stagger thresholds for significant interrupts. Being able to stagger Mauler overheads and armoured ragers would improve ‘brawliness’ without being too crazy. It’s a really great tool to cover for team mates getting abused or about to get chopped. Bring back the Bulwark kidney punch too please! IIRC it used to floor them too.

Combo-ability
It could be like grenade gauntlet in terms of having an actual moveset (even kickback has an attack pattern of 2), but I’d be super happy if it just combo’d a little more fluidly into the regular weapon attack pattern. There’s a touch of delay between last attack and thunder punch which could be shortened to improve the “sah-prise, PUNCH!” aspect.

Thrust
Give punch/slap innate Thrust blessing please. I wanna wind up the welly like Donkey Kong :laughing:
If that what it takes to meet more advanced CC breakpoints, all the better!!

I’m maybe not following. You want the special attacks to function like a heavy attack?

Thrust blessing makes it so the longer you hold the attack, the stronger it is. Versus a heavy attack which activates after a delay, thrust has multiple thresholds.

It could also serve as a balance mechanism for a stronger punch. For instance to stagger a boss, you need to take your time to wind up unholy slap.

Regarding heavy attack, obviously that would be stronger but I think it would be better to keep it as a fast stagger tool (with slow options?) rather than a heavy attack in its own right.

The most I want is a power fist for Ogryns. I’m specifically thinking something like the power fists from KF2 - they were a super fun melee weapon and my first introduction into interesting melee attacks (with the type of heavy attack performed dependent on the direction you’re moving when it’s input) before Darktide spoiled me with its melee.

Ogryns are big lads and they deserve a treat of being able to combo heretics with their bare hands and punch a Crusher’s head clean off with a powered hit. I don’t care if it gets added and is just the most abysmally horrible weapon in the game, I’m slapping it on and never taking it off.

… yeah so the way Power Maul has been treated and the way Thunder Shovel works is why I’m just not vibing with the power fist request.

That and powerfist should be a veteran exclusive weapon since I think it’d be more thematic for Veteran to have a mobile power weapon. I’m not saying Ogryn can’t I am just convinced FS would go out of their way to make an ogryn power fist too damn clunky and unfun.
