I don’t know when new weapons are going to be added again. I don’t care. If Ogryn is going to get a new melee weapon, I DEMAND it be a power fist. It’s too cool.
We have dialogue in game about Ogryns talking about how much they enjoy crushing heretics to a pulp with their bare hands, and yet I must use a club, or a big knife, or a shield, what have you. It ain’t right! Where’s me bone-crunchin’ brass knuckles?!
Some ideas:
Light Combo: A Strikedown straight punch followed by two swift Relentless sweeps. The first punch has a high stagger value, giving it an interrupt option for any enemy revving up an attack.
Heavy Combo: Constant Relentless sweeps. High cleave and knockdown.
Push Attack: A comparatively slow (to L1) uppercut with infinite cleave vs. trash mobs.
Special: Activate your Power Fist to infuse your next attack with explosive energy. Your next melee attack is converted into a Strikedown hit with guaranteed knockdown (stagger on bosses) and massively boosted damage. Deals even more damage on headshots.

Scrapper: Powered Weakspot Kills vs. Carapace Armored enemies replenish 40/50/60/70% Toughness, and grant an additional 10/15/20/25% Toughness Damage Reduction for 3 seconds.
Please also include a mark with the horizontal + vertical combo a la latrine mk3 and Branx for us bone’eads
Honestly doesn’t even have to be a power fist, though I would personally love to see a strong charged weapon (sorry power maul you aren’t cutting it for me). Fist weapons could be cool too! I’m hoping as always for something “appropriated” — flaming cinderblocks for all I care!!
I recall reading somewhere (probably either Only War or one of the IG codices) that ogryns are typically not issued with power or chain weapons or anything of that nature as they have a high propensity to injure themselves. Y’know, forget they have a power fist on and scratch themselves kinda thing. And even the more situationally-aware ones are just plain likely to break it by using it as a club anyway.
Charonites exist but they were a bit extreme and a 30K thing only. Wouldn’t work too great for easy ranged weapon swaps either.
A good alternative is found in the Only War armoury. There they have a weapon set called mace-fists. They are typically improvised and are effectively knuckle dusters with a spiked striking surface that makes the ogryn’s fist resemble the head of a mace. Makes sense. And when the ogryn forgets he has them on and scratches, he only pokes himself (potentially enhancing the scratch’s effectiveness) rather than dissolving his nethers in a power field.
Could be fun, I suppose. Should be really fast (for an ogryn) but quite short ranged.
I see two big problems though.
They seem to be quite intentionally staying away from dual weapons. I don’t know if that is a FS or a GW decision, but despite them being in artwork here and there and being all over in VT2 we have yet to see one.
GW seems to not like to draw from any of the old stuff they made together with FFG and to the point of even just not acknowledging that it exists. In this game already, they took the cohesion system right out of the OW rules but changed the name rather insensibly to “coherency” which doesn’t mean what they seem to think it does. I suspect there’s some sort of royalties rights in the background that they want to avoid. Their break-up was not an amicable one.
