I dont really understand how something mechanicus-related can fit the “reject” theme the Darktide has, but under every new post or video from FatShark there is at least a thousand people just craving for skitarii or servitor.
Servitors are lobotomised slaves as far as i know, they dont talk, they dont think. Not an option, definitely. About skitarii… so this is my quiestion - is this even possible lore-wise for a mechanicus warrior to become a reject, then walking in rags, trying to earn his reputation. I know its never gonna happen, cause a new class requires a ton of work (new perks, models, voices, and then connecting it to other classed, yada yada), but im just curios if its just theoretically possible.
Don’t worry we’re not getting a new class this decade anyways
Im not worrying, i said that i know it wont happed, didnt i?
Dunno if ‘paid classes’ would go over well but it seems like the most obvious choice. Besides a ratling who would be terrible in game (imagine if every teammate was like an ogryn for your sightlines). There would be very minimal half squat crack shooting.
Lorewise, It IS a bit complicated by the fact that the Adeptus Mechanicus is technically a nation within a nation, and handles matters with misbehaving tech-priests internally. All of the characters we play as were convicted through the Imperial justice system, but unless some major paperwork problems were had or the Mechanicus just decided “not my problem”, it’s unlikely that they’d be aboard the same ship that a bunch of normie criminals are on.
Obviously techpriests misbehave, I mean what else are Hereteks, but it’s less about “would a mechanicus character even be a criminal in the first place” like your post suggests, and more about “would the mechanicus allow their units to be tried in the Imperium”.
My justification for this would be that the Mechanicus has less of a presence in the Moebian Domain than other regions of Imperial space, and as a result junior tech-acolytes that commit a crime are handled by the Imperium instead of the Mechanicus to save on resources. The rejects you would play as would be said tech-acolytes, and thus “human enough” to go with the rest of the prisoners, and end up on the Mourningstar’s suicide squads.
Thanks for the answer! I suddenly feel more optimistic for the game, not gonna lie.
Yes, it is, and I did several threads on it.
Basically, it could work like this:
A large number of ‘not totally dead’ skitarii are being sent to Mars for recycling. The ship passes near Atoma, and the inquisitor’s warband drafts them with the inquistorial seal.
The Skitarii in question are slated for recycling, and the reason why could very, but it could be from ‘not cost effective to repair,’ to 'tech heresy as a result of scrap code" (Think computer virus if you haven’t heard the term) “Worked for a magus who was a tech heretic, either chaos or xenos,” “Malfunctioning.” etc.
The inquisitor drafts them. Hadron goes to work with her flunkies and reassembles them. Might need a slightly different opening tutorial.
WE were talking about the personalities in the thread I’ll link on top and the plot line ideas in the other two.
I still really like
Psyker “Grenades are nasty, smelly, and crude! Much like some of you!”
Skitarii “Speak not so of the humble grenade, which waits patiently to offer up a single glorious prayer to the Omnissiah.”
and
Vet “So what’s everyone think of Hadron?”
Other vet “Not one I want to get on the bad side of…”
Zealot "She serves the god Emporer, though she misnames him,
Skitarii “It is the plight of the unaugmented to be unable to comprehend the perfection of her poetry in binaric cant…”
Vet “What did you say?”
Skitarii “File not found.”
and
Hadron “Varlets, your mission is {madlib} Try not to disappoint me, though I understand the magnitude of that task is most likely beyond you…”
Skitarii “Modem sounds”
Hadron “Oh really?.. I mean… do not attempt to make me blush, I had those systems removed.”

So it is absolutely possible, people even came up with cool lines. Oh, man, now i want the skitarii class as much as others want it. Thanks for the answer.
Yeah we had a lot of good ideas, though there was one guy who kept trying to derail with offtopic stuff. Was the top link above, highly recommend looking through for the gems.
That said, while it’s possible IN world, it might not be possible realworld, because Games Workshop is said to (usually) license only part of he franchise, and without seeing their contract with Fat Shark, it might not allow anything but the most basic admech, like Hadron and her flunkies.
But then it might? Still, if Fat Shark would need to go to GW and pay more for more license, it would be a big issue since they seem to be totally unable to even fix crafting or release maps on the regular.
If Hadron is an Archeomagos, then she might have her own stash of Skitarii too running around somewhere.
Hadron needs ogryns to teach her how to put blaze away on stubbers I doubt mars would let her have a say in anything or command over anyone
rejects are just misbehaving imperial citizens innocent or no. the admechanicus have their own misbehaving people too no doubt. could plug any plot issues by saying that the reject was sent to our fav tech priest for “reeducation” which turns out to just be running missions for rannick.
I came here to say this, but I can add that there’s an entire Warhammer Crime novel featuring an Imperial Enforcer having to work with a Ad Mech cop because of jurisdiction issues. Also, one of the Vaults of Terra novels has a scene where Inquisition people have to sneak into an Ad Mech facility on Terra because they can’t just do what they like there, unlike I’m Imperial jurisdictions
Yes, Admech is separate. It’s considered another entire empire permanently entwined, which si why the imperial symbol is the two headed eagle.
So it’s most likely correct that an admech class would need it’s own tutorial setup, but that’s also kind of true for the Psyker, who really ought not to be in a regular jail, but it wouldn’t need to be that big a change.
IE, instead of a prison hallway, it could be an operating table, or even a packing crate.
The way Psykers are introduced is very much reusable for specific smaller parts of the Imperium, a Tech Reject, a Sister Reject…
Basically the Tancred Bastion is a Prison Barge that move prisoner from the whole Domains to specific Penal institutions (Unclear where though). At that point the Psykers are diverted to specific sectors to be fridged till a Black Ship is nearby.
If we apply the same thing on a Tech Reject: Tancred Bastion is used for low priority logistic for Technica Guilds toward either specific Servitorisation facilities or special Admech Prison either on the same world as the other Penal facilities, or on a specific Forge World.
An Admech archetype couldn’t really be portrayed in personality by simply having them be augmented while on the Mourningstar, as it would mean that they wouldn’t truly be “Admech”.
This can be Moebian specific lore/politic to the Admech and the local Imperial logistic, thus not affecting the rest of the lore in any way shape or form.
Same way it can work for a Sister Reject, with Smaller Convent sending their Rejects and offender to a bigger centralised facility where the Inquisition would take them up before they are at destination
Not augmented at Mourningstar. Repaired. (well, maybe some additional augments as they level up.)
An admech ‘regect’s’ background could be based around a serious malfunction or ‘misprogramming’ by a superior. So starting in an operating room, or biologis theater, would make perfect sense. You could even, if you really want to recycle assets, have them recovering in the cell after.
Our thoughts last time were that we might have one personality (think vet professional meets zealot) that is default, constantly seeking to become more like the machine, one that was recovered from a Xenarite master and shares that philosophy (programming) as they haven’t been able to purge it, and one that was scrambled by scrap code… and perhaps one of those would have a major crush on Hadron.
