9070 only uses 90w instead of 270w and has terrible performance

Issue Description (Required):

I have an AMD Radeon 9600x and 48GB 6400mhz ram with an Overclocked 9070Pure.
Before i had a 2080TI

Now i have the following Problem.
My card is set to draw 270w.

It does so in Remnant2, SpaceMarine2 and Nomad Benchmark.

However in DarkTide only in Menue it draws 270w…
As soon as i go ingame it only draws 90w and Performance is terrible.

So far i have disabled SMT and tried to Disable RayTracing in the config.
Nothing worked.
I can only play on medium settings to get above 100fps

There is clearly something wrong with the game.
My old GTX 2080TI in the very same setup (i only changed the GPU) did draw 245w and performed better than the 9070

Attempted Solutions (Optional):

  • Tried to disable SMT
  • Tried different performance settings
  • tried deactivating RT in config file

nothing worked

Platform (Required):

PC - Steam

[PC] PC Specifications (Optional):

Ryzen 9600x, 48GB ram 6400mhz, SSD , Sapphire 9070Pure

Upload Supporting Evidence (Optional):

[PC] Upload Console Log & darktide_launcher.log (Optional):

Try closing after burner entirely and see if you get better performance.

If it helps, Open MSI afterburner’s settings, go to the Monitoring tab, and uncheck every metric you’re not displaying and see if that helps.

Some people, myself included, have had issues with the default settings for msi afterburner tanking performance due to it trying to collect some power settings enabled by default even if they are not being displayed.

Use hyper RX in adrenalin

Set your in-game resolution one set lower than native and turn on FSR 3.1 quality and in game frame gen off

Whatever graphic settings you like I set mine to all high but none of the ones to extreme

This will turn on the upscaling and the AFMF2 frame gen it works really good on this game for me I have an XT

It should work better once they add fsr4 support in game but it works pretty good like I posted

In these pictures I have lighting, ambient occlusion, volumetric on extreme I had to turn those down to high

Another reason to only buy nvidia.

Do you think this post was created because the GPU is bad?

Well, yes and no.
AMD is known to have conflicts with these types of half designed games.

I think I have bought AMD during… 25 years.
I just can say you that I ALWAYS encountered strange bugs with AMD/Radeon. I was always asking why things were not working like for all others…
Then AMD becomes more and more popular… I have chosen to go for a 11900k (considered bad and that was released at the time of the Ryzen 2) and a 3080 because I have seen one the morning I have seen one available… I did not know that the RTX 3080 was a rare graphic card when i clicked “buy”.
But what I can say is that since this moment, I have ceased to encounter strange bugs.

So yes AMD is always better on paper… I have seen that during 25 years. But at home, when you run into problems, the situation is different…
I watch Intel situation with fear… cause I dont want to go back to AMD.

Uses 90-110W on my end. Performance vs expected performance is nothing to write home about. This is a ~314W XT card.

Did you ever find a solution for this? Upgraded from a 3070ti to a 9070XT and my performance is quite worse despise having a better card.

I have the same issue on a 9070xt GPU board power is all over, FPS all over. The performance is terrible. Only game I have issues with. I can play Metro Exodus Enhanced full RT at 4k with RSR from 1800p amazing performance. Cyberpunk is great with RT. I love this game, why does my xbox X give better performance than my 32GB, 5700X3d and 9070XT system? Fat, AMD GPUs are going to be were gamers start moving to, get with the program. I am on a Red Devil 9070XT 330W card…

I don’t believe this is an AMD issue. This is a programing/working with the AMD driver team issue. Understanding there were less AMD cards, FAT is going to need to work with AMD as their new card is going to be their best selling of all time. The 9000 cards are going to blow past any other AMD release.

1: you can’t buy Nvidia. I sold my 4070TI super for almost $1400 USD. I picked up a 9070XT for $789 at Micro Center. Nvidia is going to focus their energy on AI, they don’t care about games you are a very small fish in their business plan. TSMC has limited production volume, think they want to waste that on a 5070?
