There are more people leaving the moment they go down or dead than people willing to wait for a res or while being hogtied. People also like leaving when they think the mission is lost, and then other players that use quickjoin load into a mission lost screen. They save 2 minutes of their time, just to screw over 3 minutes of someone else’s. These are my experiences on Auric.
It’s clear most of the community can’t handle this tiny bit of freedom and it’s hurting the game, so I would propose that if you disconnect or leave, for 5 minutes you can only rejoin the mission you left (and you would still be down/hogtied when doing so). Game will keep a spot open for 5 minutes. Left and the mission ended? Can’t join a new one for the remaining time.
Punishing players is in general not a fun thing to do, but I genuinely think this is good for the health of the game.
edit: I want to add that I do love the game and the community in general, otherwise I wouldn’t play this game as much as I do. Would just love it more if this was addressed. Also I use “you” a lot in the post, but I realize people here reading this (on the Fatshark forum) are probably not the ones quitting early.
edit2: Seems to be a bit of a controversial topic, but I think @Spagett has the best solution to this.
Look deeper. First, we need to completely overhaul the broken respawn system, which can teleport a player to the other end of the map. It’s not much fun to spend 15 minutes watching others play the game.
If you don’t like players who quit early, play H40—there aren’t any there. Or maybe they’re all in the same block.
They should rather fix the problem that nobody can join after the mission ran out, even when people search over quickplay. I have no problem with quitters outside of Havoc, because usually when they leave it means you get another player before they would’ve been rescued. The only time I do have a problem with people that quit is when the mission ran out and nobody can rejoin, which didn’t used to be a thing back then for non-maelstrom missions.
I also think that those people that rage-quit would also close the game once they get penalized, which isn’t good for the games long term health.
when someone ragequits with alt f4 also it counts as disconnection/crash, so the slot is still occupied until the player rejoins back, i don’t know the full timer but there is a cooldown until the slot clears out and so that a new player can join. in fact when seeing someone ragequitting you can see them still being on the strike party but they are not there.
maybe they should make that if someone alt f4 it simply gives fully a clear slot. and giving the grace period to rejoin only for the people that actually are crashing.
this is also one of the problem why the refill join thing gets messed up by ragequitters
but this never been a problem to me cause i can solo auric maelstorm anyway
Actually, it was you who attacked me, accusing me of using mods to help me pick teammates. So? From your point of view, do I win too often? A whole two times in the last sixteen games. What a scoundrel I am! How dare I install this mod and filter out potential teammates who play a character with the same ability as mine?
Your words would carry more weight if you demonstrated full confidence in yourself by giving up any mods. But since that’s not the case, that’s the pot calling the kettle black
And yes, I have absolutely no insecurity whatsoever — I am fully confident that one man in the field is no warrior, at least when that warrior is me
Guys, if you hijack the forum it should at least be around the topic. You guys are arguing here about some story about mods from something that happened in the past.
There is no way for the server to know if they alt F4’d or crashed for real. The client is just gone in both cases.
However, I think the time someone has to reconnect is currently way too long. At least from my estimation it’s about 5 minutes or more, which is more than enough time to restart the game multiple times. They should greatly reduce this time so others can take their place earlier.
If someone has a internet or power outage for 5 minutes, then it’s their bad luck I guess.
