Did you try the mod?
Just tried it. No way is it cheating, the game is so much harder with the janky aiming and 0 depth perception in front of you.
You can configure the mod to return in first person camera when aiming (so normal behavior of the game… so cannot be considered cheating)
id say 3rd person is definitely cheating as in its changing the game to get an advantage.
slightly sticky as DT is missing some audio ques VT had so that extra awarenes is actually useful.
but i dont think i care , it wouldnt bother me to know i was grouped with three people using the cheat.
i would like those missing audio ques though!
Obviously, you did not test it…
So what is the point? just ruining the experience of the others?
When it start to be really tense… I switch back to 1st person camera… why would I do that if it was easier in 3rd person camera.
Please test it before speaking opinion without having an experience on it.
your right i didnt test it , but i dont think claiming thats its currently implemented badly so its not an advantage so its ok is a defence that holds water.
weve all played first and 3rd person games the reason for each view isnt some secret ingredient, 3rd person gives far better awareness of the surrounding area. the choice the devs took was to not allow that. a mod that circumvents that is imo a textbook definition of a cheat.
but not all crimes are even and as i did say in my last post frankly i do not care about this at all , if the devs were to introduce it i would be fine. if i were to group with people using it i wouldnt care.
its just trechnically it is still a cheat , but its in the same catergory like when as kids we would tape the top 40 off the radio , sure its technically piracy but who cares?
It’s a trade off. Better awareness of the area behind you, but worse distance judgement. DT combat places a high premium on exact distance (and aiming) judgments, especially right in front of you, and provides audio cues for stuff behind you. So, overall I play noticeably worse with the mod, and from other posts here it seems this is generally true.
Try it yourself before commenting tbh. You really have no idea what you’re talking about if you haven’t even bothered to try it.
The point is that the better awareness of things behind you is something you just should not have. There are situations when that is advantageous and it just shouldn’t be a thing.
No, I have not tried the mod (and I won’t, I think it should be banned) but there is nothing weird about the difference between first and third person modes. They have their strengths and their weaknesses and I don’t believe that the strengths of a third person view belongs in Darktide.
The video of the game with this mod (I live in Europe, I restricted the access to adults): LINK
You can also see my power sword in action…
no, i really dont need to , your hung up on if its helpfull or not but thats irrelevant
you drive down the pavement the police pull you over and your defence is “i didnt get home any faster!” but that isnt why your being arrested
the issue is it changes the core functionality of how the game displays its data its a cheat.
Cheat: act dishonestly or unfairly in order to gain an advantage.
Then now, explain me what is cheating in using a mod that will give you disadvantage…
And as you don’t want to test, and don’t know what you talk about… your opinion is not relevant
It’s relevant to the question of whether or not it’s helpful, lol…which we’re only discussing because you’re taking the position that helpful mods should be banned. This is doubly silly because a) the mod isn’t actually helpful (which is what everyone who’s actually tried it is telling you repeatedly), and b) even if it were helpful, it would still be permitted, as afaict the only sorts of mods that are banned are those that directly affect other players. So healthbars, improved crosshairs, FOV expansions, perspective changes, etc are all fine and are in fact widely used.
I’ll be honest, I like to mod, its really fun.
The reason I made this post is that, coming from other FPS melee games (i.e. chivalry2), where 3rd person is objectively considered much stronger than first, is that it does let you cleave like a mad man and 360 spin. So that was my take and concern. Basically you can cleave far more efficiently than in 1st, and I just wanted some kind of "this is fine"from the dev - I guess if they say nothing here then its good
Off topic, but a cool thing about this mod is you can be in Mourningstar in first person view
Thank you for reading my post
