I would argue that they are. Their design predates the Cadian overhaul and as such are bound to be very different. The armour covers the entirity of the upper body, including abdomen and groin - which Cadian style flak does not - and the shape of the helmet is very different to boot. As the armour of the Imperium’s special forces it should be bedecked with pouches and grenades as per the image below, unlike the few pouches on the flak. Ideally, as we are working for the Ordo Xenos, we should get more Inquisition dedicated outfits and this would be a perfect candidate as the aesthetic for Inquisitorial Stormtroopers for over two decades.
I am going to Point out the Earlist forum of Inquistion storm troopers could be taken with the 2nd eddition Witch hunter Codex. they were for the inqustion only. they then move from that Codex “Faction” (if you could really Call it a Factional Codex as it had so many different one), to the Guard Codex till 5th then the they were Replaced by Tempestus Scions in 6th eddition. While Karskin appear in the 3rd eddition in the ART Work, their is No Rule Set for them till 9th. they are iin the Lore but and their are Models for them for sure, but their is no Rule set Going back from the Begining of the Guard Codexs. even checking through all the Codexs and Double Checking through the Internet Shows this. so both karskin and Scions Replaced the Ubequitius Stormtrooper Desgination (though Karskin model kicked in around the 3rd eddition) . but also the Lore of Creations of StormTroopers/scions hasn’t Changed at all since it inception in the Witch Hunter Codex, it like Why Space marines went from that to Being Adeptus Astrates it a Name change so GW can Trade Mark it, Only the Best Tempestus scions can be Inqustional Stormtroopers and the Rest are sent to the Adeptus Minitorium For Deployments under ordos Tempestus.
Reguadless the Point being Made Here is that The names have Changed but the History Hasn’t, also the weapon Name are interchange able. but the Ryza and Lucius Hotshot Lasguns are cooler looking. and More pratical to Function the the Old Hellguns.
Edit: also your Grabbing the Images from Only war FFG game that was discountinued BY GW after Conflicts on what was going to be Cannon and Not, Not a good Repsentation Grab the 5th eddition Images for Stomrtrooper such as the Ammaggedon Stormtrooper who look more akin then the Karskn who are also from the Same eddition that being 3rd.
I get where you are coming from and I do not disagree with what you’re saying, you’re just reading into that post a little too literally.* In a semi-silly way I was decrying the Scion and Kasrkin designs in favour of the Stormtrooper design that first appeared in the 1999 3rd Edition Guard Codex, replacing the plastic beret-wearing Stormtroopers of the 2nd Edition (which, in my youthful ignorance I absolutely caked in paint; poor models, they deserved better). I know what Stormtroopers are, I fielded them in every Guard army I had from the mid-1990s onwards until I was able to go full 100% DKoK Deathriders with the arrival of the 40k rulebook with formations in; I haven’t really played much since 2009, so I’m a bit hazy on the newer editions. Buying into another rulebook with new codices and new models each time gets tiresome. I do want to say that I do know the difference lorewise between Inquisitorial Stormtroopers and Imperial Guard Stormtroopers, the former being raised and trained in Inquisition fortresses across the Imperium, and the latter being from the Schola Progenium, as described in the 2nd Edition Guard Codex.
The FFG images were a quick grab, an easy to find pair of images to post as a colourful example of the general style, which they are actually quite close to but as always have FFG’s own touch to them. I will happily go and track down all the black and white images of that particular Stormtrooper design if you like; give me an excuse to go through all the old codexes and rulebooks (including Inquisitor from 2001) and spend an afternoon feeling the nostalgia, and remembering how I converted the Stormtrooper sergeant’s head with some greenstuff so he had a beret on top of his helmet (I was a bit army mad at the time and thought the beret was the most amazing piece of headgear ever made), and how my Stormtroopers always died to a man in every battle because I’m a terrible player.
Broadly, we are on the same page about Imperial Guard & Inquisitorial Stormtroopers and which design we’re talking about and I do hope that that is the design you would also like to see make it into Darktide.

I think you’ve misremembered where what appeared when. The Kasrkin make their artistic and miniature debut in the second 3rd Edition Guard Codex from 2003, with the Cadian re-release where they shed their Cold War NATO inspiration for totally-not-based-on-the-1997-Starship-Troopers-uniforms-honest! miniatures that have been the standard for the past 20 years. Plus it had the really excellent Regimental Doctrine section which was so cool, but they ripped it out by the 5th edition. I really liked it and was disappointed it did not return.
Re: Inquisitorial Stormtroopers and Inquisition codices, the Inquisition only had two books initially, Daemonhunters and Witch Hunters, both of which feature the 3rd Edition Guard Stormtroopers passed across as Troop choices and were also published in 2003, making them the official Inquisitorial Stormtrooper design. Prior to them you were able to take an Inquisitor from the rear of the 3rd Edition rulebook which had a list of heroes an Imperial army could take, along with special units for other forces, I think but I cannot remember. It was a long time ago.
I just want to look like an ordinary guardsman maaaan :((((((
To be fair, we aren’t ordinary Guardsmen.
well yeah but havent stopped them to make skins that look ordinary enough. Like in the pic you posted here in the comments (specifically the green one)
