Meanwhile martyor zealots unironically one hitting everything
Blades of Faith is certainly the least impactful blitz by far. The reason is simple: most of the time it doesn’t do anything that your ranged weapon isn’t doing already. Except if you run flamer I guess.
If you have the points to spare, there is very little reason to actively take it over stun/incendiary grenades. You only take it when you don’t.
It honestly just needs a minor damage buff and it would be a skill based blitz honestly. The issue is its barely hitting the breakpoint for headshot kills elite/special for all (besides mutant and ogryn stuff, armor stuff). Making it very useful for killing elites in the middle melee. But yes I agree its super not impactful in general compare to stun grenade.
Awesome alternative that rewards you for using it skillfully.
Easy way to dismiss coming ragers or just help teammates to take down some tough elite.
If that’s the intended use case, I’d be more impressed if it had a (limited) ability to pierce through density. Random poxwalkers getting in the way is a big part of the reason I avoid running knives if I can.
Its fun to use especially when you hit those clutch headshots to some important specials like snipers. But I’m often in a situation wondering why would I not just shoot that special/elite.
You also lose arguably the best oh crap grenade in the game.
I don’t know I feel like it needs a buff in some ways to make it bit more interesting. Range is probably good place to start because the drop-off just feels bad.
Gotta agree. If they flew straight further I could definitely find more uses for them.
It’s for running bolter or flamer so you can still delete specials/elites that would give trouble for your melee weapon, and switching to ranged would take too long. Refresh is tied to ammo pickups, which both weapons need plenty of.
It really fills a gap.
It also feels really nice in pinch to be able to nail threats with a well placed headshot.
There’s a gameplay loop to get knifes back so that’s pretty sweet.
I do feel the lack of Stun grenade in clutch situations, but the throwing knife also prevents a lot of those sh*tty situations.
Other reason why I would take it, is because it paths through some interesting nodes.
That’s another thing to keep in mind when it comes to maximising a build.
It is a minor pain that you have to go through Loner to get the cheapest path downwards; I rarely find myself out of coherency for long enough to make that always-2-coherency worthwhile. Such is the tradeoff one has to make but dang it, the other 2 auras are more useful for me
my build paths right first then full left for the Fury, so it’s not that big a deal
actually have something like… 6 points that are freely assignable so it’s pretty chill!
Blades of Faith is fun and I do appreciate not taking up valuable grenade pickups for the rest of my team, but I have one major problem with its design: it doesn’t cleave through hordes.
If I’m chucking knives at any point, then 99% of the time it’s because there’s a disabler in my face, I can’t quite reach them with my melee weapon, and they’re surrounded by hordes. Throwing knives becomes useless when hordes keep bodyblocking said knives from reaching disablers.
If there’s a disabler that I need to kill but it’s NOT surrounded by disablers, then I usually have time to just switch to my gun and kill it with that, or even slide-sprint up to it and smack it with my melee weapon. I wouldn’t be using my throwing knives there, either.
So I feel like I’d have more of a use case for throwing knives if they cleaved through hordes until it reached a taggable enemy. I’d also appreciate it if throwing knives guaranteed adding bleed stacks onto the target, to give it more of a use case against bosses.
Poxburster shoves should restore knives too. And the finesse modifier for Maniacs should just be shared for everything but unyielding and carapace. 2 weaknesses are enough, you shouldn’t need Unarmored on your active weapon to one shot a dreg gunner (yes, knives are inheriting perks and blessings right now which will probably get fixed, but currently makes the knives way better than they should be. Like for instance 3 shotting a crusher).
Then I’d be over the moon with them. I have similar complaints with other new grenades, like the rock not one shotting the trapper. Like I can get leaving most of the one shots for the box, because it is a resource, but the rock should at least one shot the trapper.
Them knives are dookey.
Amendment: after doing some more research and experimentation, I’ve since learned that Throwing Knives are actually much more valuable than I realized. They basically let you instantly delete a Disabler without having to cause your gun to reload.
This pairs especially well with a revolver. I would sstill mostly use a Throwing Knife when I spot a disabler out in the open, and it’s true that I could whip out my revolver and kill it with my gun instead in those situations. However, we all know that the revolver takes time to reload: therefore, in a hectic situation where I need to kill the special right now but don’t NEED to use my revolver to kill it, then the Throwing Knife steps up to fill the gap.
I suspect Throwing Knives will only truly shine in Auric missions and once you’re able to consistently land headshots with them. Before such scenarios, Throwing Knives will probably seem pretty lackluster. In those scenarios, however, they’re actually quite good. It helps a lot that you’re basically gauranteed to be constantly gaining ammo for them back (you’re killing a lot of taggables in melee as a Zealot, right…?)
I’ve found the knives respectableon regular Damnation; I’ve had plenty of opportunities to take out trains of specials or pick off a small cluster of gunners/shotgunners. If the body part multiplier was removed and the damage was boosted by about 10% (which would address it falling short of one-hit kill Dreg Gunners and, iirc, Dreg Ragers), it’d be in a pretty good spot.
Right now, the weapon perk benefit and body part multipliers add a lot of variability so it can take 1 - 4 knives to kill certain targets, depending on what weapon you have equipped, and if you got (un)lucky with where the knife hits.
I’m not convinced by them, but I do use them when there are multiple ragers in my face. It’s good when you dodge back and toss straight ahead.
Yes, it offers a different play style, and its quite satisfying to pop specials and light elites with head shots. Just make sure your “grenade” button is easy to reach without affecting your aim.
I love knives, theyre great to pair with short range imprecise weapons like flamer.
what about if you had no ammo
