I think it doing increased toughness damage made sense. It changing your toughness to zero I don’t think was great for builds heavily focusing on toughness.
Alternatives would have been
1.) Fire doing 100% more toughness damage compared to health damage (or whatever number)
2.) Fire IGNORES toughness and does health damage directly but leaves your toughness where it is.
I agree the change is fine, I’d go as far as saying that it was necessary too. Problem now though is the amount of health damage it’s doing (maybe toughness too). It’s literally bursting people down if they don’t have precog reflexes or Swedish fiber if they get caught.
Tried 3x 20% curios in the meat grinder and my Veteran can’t even touch the side of a flame grenade and hop out, just dead. Horrible change, they just needed to nerf the lingering fire effect from flamers.
Just played a t4 mission and flames don’t seem to deal absurd damage, sounds like a bug going round. That really sucks, hopefully it’s just affecting the meat grinder.
I’m going to say what a lot of others have said already:
This is a significant buff for the Bomber bois.
What happens now is that in Maelstrom, where multiple bombers spawn at the same time, they will often insta-kill you by carpet bombing the entire area while you are fighting other stuff you can not pass.
My Ogryn handles the changes fine because he has Bull Rush and can move out of the way fast by using the ability strategically, but they are a death sentence for Quorin, my Veteran, who has no other option but to jump through the fire.
If Quorin’s toe-nail just brushes against the fire, it is game over for him.
This has been a problem with Fatshark since the beginning of Darktide (I never played the Vermintide games); they balance the game in big patches and make huge swiping changes all at once instead of changing numbers little by little and listening to player feedback until they find the sweet spot.
While I like the fire change on principle, I think it is now a bit too damaging^^
I don’t know exactly how the math on it work but my group have seen instance of people loosing half their health by being barely grazed by the flame or instantly dying when being resed in it.
I prefer the new system in principle, but between how aggressively the damage ramps up and the slowdown it’s very frustrating as a mechanic.
It feels like bombers were originally implemented as a snare/toughness stripper with flamers being for that and damage (having to actually ‘get in’ and risk death more easily) and that’s changed to make the bombers do damage. With the slowdown and damage ramp up it’s really oppressive and they’re not nearly as fun to fight against.
“restore fire to it’s former glory” bruh maybe actually play the game first before you complain about it. Fire has never been more dangerous than it is now. It no longer breaks toughness instantly, it just kills full health players in less than a second before they can move out of it.
It’s honestly pretty dumb and I doubt the current level of fire damage was intentional.
It was confirmed that rn the Tickrate is wrong for Damnation it’s like 300% per tick. It was posted somewhere on the official discord. So it might get a hotfix hopefully bugged plasma too.
