Winds of Magic worth it?

Well I’m not on 40 yet due to the lack of people playing it (or who don’t leave because they die)

Good luck trying to matchmake on anything to do with weaves. It’ll be dead within a week.

This is probably the main problem with them. Once you have completed the weave, there is zero reason to go back, because you don’t even get the essence for it.

Anyways to post something in topic, the way I see the worth of this expansion is this:
Are you a newish player? Probably not worth it for some time.
Are you occational player? It probably depends on the player, whenever they like what the expansion brings.
Are you frequent player? In my opinion it is worth it to revitalize old content with new units and new weapons even if you don’t care that much about weaves. I didn’t have that much problem with dropping the dosh on this expansion just because the number of hours I’ll get from this and I already got from the game is worth the money (and thus I just want to support it’s continued development).

I was hovering over the refund button for around 10 minutes but decided not to only because my premade group of friends held onto the DLC. We expect to get 2-3 weeks out of it, which we’ve decided is worth the cost, then will be going back to insurgency sandstorm.

Ah, so you somehow believe that me enjoying the game is equivalent to grinding? It’s bold of you to assume I wasn’t just enjoying the game on its own merits.

Moreover, grinding doesn’t have to be meaningless. Similarly, I’m usually playing to obtain a weapon or a skin or to slay a specific bad-guy or clear a specific map or a specific difficulty because that’s what I enjoy. If grinding for 2 hours gets me what I need to do that? Pssshh, ezpz decision on my end.

I’m surprised that you can’t do something meaningful that also isn’t your end goal.

I cannot actually recommend the game right now, as I am still having horrible, horrible fps drops. I mean, I can play on 30fps without a problem. But despite trying various fixes, I am getting slow-downs and fps drops into the teens still. Hordes often cause it - I dread Skaven more than any other because of how many there are, but it will happen at pretty much any time, even when no enemies are around and nothing is really happening. When it happens, fast weapons won’t register any hits, and dodging does not help. The only thing I can do is block and push.

I would say this DLC is not worth it. If you’re not interested in Weaves, then the DLC is just one map, one new weapon per hero but most are limited to some sub-classes, and some achievements/challenges. That is not worth $20 by itself.

The Weaves should have been something they gave out for free to keep players interested. It would have been much better suited as an in-between dlc release. They could have kept the base game price point as it was, no 75% off deal on Steam, and expected their fans plus a steam frontpage ad to get more new players.

I say Weaves should be free because they are not all that fun or worth your time. If they could unlock something neat, say a weapon with an extra trait/property or a level 35 talent or a new boss or any substantial new content then I’d be all for paying for them but currently it’s very lackluster and not much different than just replaying maps except here your progress has been reset and all your previous time investment doesn’t matter when you enter.

I do realize that Fatshark needs to get some income from working on this game, which on release was cheap and has been discounted heavily over the years, especially since they are still putting in manhours to its balance and development. That being said, I don’t think they are putting enough value into what genuine new content could do for them and how much happier it’d make everyone. If they wanted to add more grind, they could add new things that need to be leveled, not old things that you have to level again. This DLC/patch did it twice when they raised the bar for the ult talent and gave us weaves.

A way they could have done this is to have some new subclasses that have to be leveled-up separately from the hero. Call them prestige classes and maybe tie them to the lore of the new map dlc. Say instead of Beastmen we got Vampire Counts with a new map and got Templar Kruber, Runelord Bardin, Corsair Kerillian, etc that gain xp as any other character would, they are just not tied with the hero. Instead of gaining commendation chests if they don’t wanna give more of those, they could unlock things like skins, portraits, art, banners, etc every 5 levels or something. This gets veteran players to go in and play with newer players to level these new classes up. That’s worth $20. Weaves could then come out and be as grindy as they originally had it if it was free.

Well it has been released and patched few times. My current opinion is still that its not exactly worth it unless you can appreciate weaves, cata or the weapons in such a degree that 15-20 € makes it worthwhile.
Weaves are ok/fun if you are in a 4 man premade otherwise they suck completely.
Cata can be fun but its like playing 2 different difficulties now with beastman in the mix.
Weapons are so hit and miss currently that i cannot recommend most of them.
Finally beastman enemies can be fun in the months time but currently its just smashing your head against gors and banners. Now i’m almost hoping for bray shaman or something to mix them up more.

It isn’t made for you though.
Its made for some madup group of people who play vermintide to be competetive. :expressionless:

You speak about these “top players” as if they’re mindless drones who will buy anything fatshark puts out. When your core audience is disregarded in order to appease a group of elitists, twitch streamers and youtubes, I don’t think you should support it and I don’t know anyone who wants to support it.

All my friends are refunding WoM on mass because it is not made for them, its made for people who need to stroke their epeen “omg im on top of the leaderboards yasssssss”

Not only that, but cheaterboards encourage a meta build more than ever before.
This is just one big clownshow.

@TmanDW Let me be clear, I love the game. I spent my time there because I wanted to. But how much of that 1400 hours was spent enjoying the content vs. MINDLESSLY GRINDING for an item I wanted? If I had to put a figure on it, I would say 20% of my time was meaningful. Growing up with games like Everquest, and WoW, and Diablo II, I have a WAY above average threshold for grindy bs, but now that I’m older and my time actually means something, I can see these grindy mechanics exactly for what they are: Bad game design, and a waste of time.

At some point, I’m gonna make an in depth loot mechanics thread on here, so I can discuss exactly what a terrible incentive system Vermintide 1 and 2 always had.

“But Pro, I don’t care about cosmetics, I just want to play with my friends and have fun hehe!” Yeah? Well good for you! Not everyone is like you, and you don’t get to cherry pick which parts of the game work when you talk about the game as a whole.

@Jaffawer

Lohner: “Oy mate, listen, I’ve got some extra war-booty that my scouts have tracked in the chaos through out the region, but they don’t work for free! So, if you want to have an extra edge in the fight against those bastard ratmen, pony up some of those coin purses you won at cards, and I’ll see about some procurement!”

Do you see now, how EASY it would be to create micro-transactions for the current system in the game? And that’s just off the top of my head. Everything is already set to be monetized. It wouldn’t take much to program a store front.

I wouldn’t even be surprised if Fatshark is already working on such systems, because the loot system from V1 was extremely different, then we moved to loot boxes, hmmm, and Fatshark has never responded to complaints of loot system problems before like they’re testing the waters, HMMMM.

This is a very tired and un-impactful way of responding to the problem of poor loot systems, and gambling style reward systems. I urge you to watch this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7S-DGTBZU14

It goes into detail about how these types of systems not only destroy lives, but ruin the game. And before you say “But there are no real money micro-transactions in this game, Pro” remember… we’re one step away from them existing, and you don’t only pay with your wallet.

I would love to, but I already have. So here’s a copy pasta of when I explained it to another individual:

The reason for it is evident from the history of this franchise. If you look through V1 and V2, you can see that Fatshark has been steadily getting lazier and lazier.

In V1 the first DLC we got was Castle Drakenfels with 3 unique maps and 2 weapons, followed by Karak Azgaraz (my favorite), again, with 3 unique maps and 2 weapons, followed by Stromdorf, now with 2 new slightly less unique maps, and 1 weapon for Kruber, then Death on the Reik with 2 relatively unique maps and 1 new weapon. AND by the way, each weapon in V1 was it’s own unique model for the Veteran items.

In V2, what did we get? We got new character models, and mostly recycled weapon models from V1, which is fine, this is an appropriate re-purposing of old content, because it makes sense. Except now all the Veteran items are just regular champion weapons with a glow. This is lazy.

Then we get the first DLC Shadows Over Bogenhafen which gave us 2 maps MOSTLY constructed from re-purposed assets and new weapon illusion which was the LAZIEST possible method of re-purposing old assets imaginable. Now they’re purple, yay! I’ve even hear one of the people I played with, describe The Pit level as “Every single previous level asset lumped into one level”, and you know what? This is kinda lazy, but still FINE because even though they’re using old assets, they’re creating a brand new scene with them.

Then we got Back to Ubersreich. Uh oh, now we’re getting into some shady territory. Basically the same maps from V1, that were re-purposed to with minor puzzle elements and slapped into a DLC. It’s only saving grace was Fortune of War, which was ALSO, a re-purposed asset, used to create an arena. The only thing that even slightly redeems it, was that is was challenging, and fun.

Now, let’s take a look at WoM: 1 new map, then a mode that’s basically an edit of the original maps, with some minor gameplay elements attached to them. THIS IS LAZY! This is the equivalent of a musician, re-mixing an old popular song with an unnecessary techno track. An new faction that is buggy and unfun to play against as stated in multiple threads. A reworking of the talents which breaks the pacing of the game, and 5 new weapons which essentially re-purposed old weapons for different characters. THE ONLY MEANINGFUL CONTENT THAT WAS ADDED WAS 1 MAP. Defending this decision would seem like it would only come from someone who doesn’t know how much they’re giving up by purchasing something like this.

The only reason to play the game was for mechanics of combat. Which Fatshark also managed to break in this DLC.

You’re conflating working towards a goal with grinding. If you’re trying to kill a boss, or pass a challenge, that’s meaningful content because you’re actively working towards a goal and that goal is SKILL based. On the other hand, if you’re trying to get a rare Red item from a loot chest, THAT IS GRINDING, because you have no way of improving your odds at attaining such item other than GRINDING. <— This is cäncer and doesn’t belong in a game. If you think this is “fun”, you are extremely misinformed or can’t recognize what actually makes a good reward mechanic.

Ekhm… lol

At least there have been a couple days where the base game has crept past 50% positive. That’s something, right?

That’s no surprise considering almost all of the feedback during the two betas I experienced was mostly negative. And all of the feedback since then has been mostly negative.

There’s a whole other thread running about how Fatshark should respond, but surely it’s all FireFighting and Damage limitation at FS Offices now.

Breaking the much-loved over-the top almost Tom&Jerry combat has shot the goose that lays the golden egg. Someone somewhere is probably having to answer some very difficult questions to some quite annoyed investors. I certainly hope so.

I’m curious as hell to see how the sales numbers are going. I don’t think they can easily salvage Weaves, but they at least need to fix Beastmen to get some positive feedback. Just nerfing them a little would probably go a long way.

It’s worth it to support this game and it’s creators.

Is it any good tho? I’m hesitant to buy this DLC even tho it crossed most of my checklist: new boss, new map, new enemies and new weapons.

Gameplay have been hell sinse 2.0 have launched. I played 4 hours on legend last night and i got 1 win. gO PlAy ChaMpIoN PlEp - no, people that play on champion don’t care about teamplay so it’s even more of a chore then trying to get a win on legend as a solo player.

Beastmen hordes are so frustrating to face, if you get hit by a charging horde you are as good as dead, if you get hit while blocking there’s 2-3 other attacks that hits you in that split second while recovering. so blocking is now a high risk low reward situation. even if you don’t get killed your guard will break unless you have 8 shields. this was not an issue before 2.0

the Beastmen elites looks like infantry, that’s just… meh. and from what I’ve read on the forums i don’t want to touch weaves before it get another look from the devs.

i do like the way Skaven hordes spawn now however annoying it is, it forces me to be more aware of my surroundings and there seems to be a lot more rats then there used to be which is always welcome.

i don’t want to touch the stagger mechanic, not because i don’t want to try it but because i only have 1 of each red charm, necklace and trinket. this is an issue with the core game not just 2.0. i salvage all the reds i don’t use so i can get a red weapon i actually want. but that leaves me with 1 specific build for all my heroes because i don’t care to go through the waste of time that is the random sodding reroll system.

They didn’t introduce much new content. This should have just been a free patch to add the side activity of Weaves for players while they worked on an honest expansion.

Not to mention this game revolves around progression, and the Weaves reset periodically. It feels like something developed for an entirely different game.

So I’d say no. This should have been free. I feel burned for having spent $19.99 USD on it.

Not mindlessly, no.

WoM wasn’t made for me, so why support it? It is a clear change in direction.

Support what? Poorly done work and minimal quantity of content for the price of double price of already existing dlcs? LMAO

if we compare fatshark to EA they’re sodding gods, you’re being hyperbolic.
