Will we actually be getting a story?

I hope so it would be a shame if we didn’t get a story in a 40k game.

My theory is that Dan Abnett wrote the background lore for Terium/the Moebian domain/maybe some item descriptions, and the story of your character rising through the Inquisition was a rush job written by someone else. Doesn’t really make sense that Abnett would write one part up to standard and totally phone in the rest. I think FS is just being misleading about his involvement.

The Story is there. Somewhat like a Souls game but not in the Item description. More in the Character voice lines and Vox transmittions.

One Hive already fully lost to Chaos. And the one we desperately try to safe is full of Nurgle Cultist, who already managed to summon Demon hosts, Beasts of Nurgle and other demons into real space.
AND there is one really really big Demon deeeeeeeeeeeeeep down in the deepest part of the hive.

Who knows. Maybe this hive world becomes the stage for a Great Unlcean One. Or we manage to stop one from braking trough the veil of reality. The story potential of this games setting is big and already more you get from most other 40k game adaptations.

They could have a bit of a warzone update and back and forth between you/the PDF and the heretics like how Helldivers does it. It would explain why some zones or mission aren’t available, and even if it doesn’t do anything, having a counter for missions completed, or heretics killed would do quite a bit for the narrative feel of a hive city embroiled in a war. Currently it doesn’t feel like anything you are doing are contributing to a larger picture, there are no consequences, however minor, to any of your actions.

Biggest cope I’ve heard in awhile… yes the vox transmissions are some of the best content in the game but I still wouldn’t consider it good or even soulslike when it’s the ONLY story in the game and still isn’t much.

Most of the time, when you get the really interesting Voice lines in the missions, where questions about the bigger picture of the conflict on the hive planet come up, you get a reaction from the command to stop asking about said things.

We ARE Inquisition Warband acolytes. But we lack the rank to get the REAL intel on what is going on.
For now, we have to deal with the fact that we get send down there to take out priority targets or retake critical structures for the ground war on Automa Prime.

  • With all the Bugs and problems we are sadly stuck at THIS point of the Story for now.

And that sure will be the reason, why there are no NEW maps out for now.
They now have to fix things and introduce new weapons and stuff in other ways then they planed.
With new missions, there would come new story lines and intel. But they can not just pump them out while the old bugs and balance stuff is not sorted.

So for now, we are inquisitorial Grunts, doing Grunt stuff like killing heretics and following orders.

probably not

Don’t get me wrong I completely understand that, it’s just hard to be hopeful for any additional story content when the story we have so far is laughable. If they want the story to mean anything they’re going to have to do lots of major work to draw people back in and hopefully have the story actually be part of the missions. One of the things I hated the most about Destiny when I used to play it is the main story was pretty much always awful, but the background was very interesting, and I’d hate to see DT go down that same route.

The best part about the twist is:

You, the player, are not the one who gets killed for being the imposter.
I really thought it could have been me.

Quite surprising indeed.

What a malicious take of events, you can clearly see this character in the background of cutscenes randomly walking around and doing nothing. It is truly masterful story telling, and the fact that they have 0 voice lines or interactions with the player only help to add to the intense mystery.

That’s what YOU think.

Hydra Dominatus.

The “traitor” definitely should have ended up being some sort of a boss mission, I think.

Oh. That’s really cool. I always wondered why we started out in cages.
