lol. lmao.
I hope that the release version will add the missing 99% of the story.
Who was the writer again? Some Black Library dude? Did he get paid for that one sentence of story arc?

Itâs funny because Dan Abnett is probably my favorite author from The Black Library lol. I havenât made it to the end but so far it looks like he was just used for his name to push sales and not for anything of actual value.
Did he write the short stories? I thought those were great.
No, he has written both novels and short stories. The first book I read of his was the special edition of the Ravenor Omnibus which was 3 novels and almost 900 pages. It was great.
Dan Abnett wrote Gaunts Ghosts, which is a great imperial guard centered book series, so he should really know his stuff. Not sure what the deal is with the games story line though, its very bare bones.
Ya, was absolutely blown away with how little there seemed to be of it.
Granted, Vermintide 1+2 were pretty enemic with their âtraditionalâ story thread, but they made up for it by telling a compelling story through the banter between the set personalities of the playable characters which Darktide falls far short of.
Might could be that we donât have all the cutscenes in Beta. Just throwing that out there.
Then what would be the point of keeping everyoneâs progression save for some gamebreaking issues that would force a wipe?
I think what scythid mean was the short stories FS post sometime before the beta. But anyway, while i doubt the story situation would improve after launch, hopefully they do have something up their sleeves for later.
Maybe additional cutscenes that explain some of the mission modifier. Or occasional limited time events with narrative attached.
ohhh gotcha, I misinterpreted.
Yea hopefully they do something. I appreciate the fact that they tried something new with the cutscenes but I hope they add more with substance.
I dont think this was the full story, remember we only have a few levels of the full game. I suspect the âStoryâ we have gotten in the beta so far, is more or less the prologue to the actual story. Where this is just getting the trust of the inquisitor, and on release we we will get the actual story content of the game told as agent of the inquisitor.
Because remember there is still an entire enemy type we have not been shown yet that im sure will have a story behind it.
I just hit level 30, and yea, Iâm a little confused by what the heck that story was. The prologue where you escape from the prison ship was cool, I enjoyed having a little single player snippet in the game.
Some stuff was just weird though. Like, in the prologue the zealot character is clearly wearing armor and is already a trusted member of Zolaâs retinue, but then when you get to the âI am a warriorâ scene sheâs in prisonerâs clothes again and not already inducted into the warband.
At some point the game hints at the fact that the psyker his a higher ranking member of the warband who will speak with you once you have proven yourself, but he never does.
The whole little sub-plot about the traitor hunt and the payoff in the end would be great if we got to play through it and got to really hate the traitor for trying to cast blame on us or something. But just having them introduced in the last cutscene out of the blue kind of ruins the payoff.
Maybe we need a scene right before that where the traitor puts some chaos contraband into our characterâs bunk or something, and we are hauled off to be tortured and mind probed by the psyker. That way the resolution would actually be somewhat satisfying with our innocence being proven and the traitor being punished.
The whole scene with the traitor is cool, but just has no payoff because we neither see a character we hate get punished, nor a character we thought was innocent get revealed to be our enemy. Itâs just a character we donât know at all.
So yea, I hope there are bits still missing from this because itâs a beta. The bones of a great story are all there, but there is too much stuff that never gets addressed.
I would like to see my character interact with the canonical members of the warband just to get a sense of who they are and how the conscripts interact. What their thoughts are about who Grendyl is and why he communicates through different faces and voices etc. Stuff like that would just kind of bring the story alive move.
I like it.
I think they have solved narrative conflict great by introducing two separate stories, one of the PC (player character) and the other of the Tertium (context and background).
Going on and on and again and again to the Hive city to fight and investigate makes more sense than ever in any similar game I have played, keeping the story alive and going on.
What would be great would be an entire well written and scripted single-player/coop campaign even if it was paid for DLC later on. Even if it was entirely separate and disconnected from the multiplayer with no crossover.
there was a story?
lmao prove yourself trash x5
*prove yourself trash x5
Now youâre our trash, keep proving yourself x1

How could it be the full story if we havenât played the full selection of maps?
its the full lvl30 story anyway
Im just gonna go ahead and hope there IS a story past these cinematicsâŚ
Itâs supposed to be a gritty universe but instead I get pep talks all the time.
None of the story so far was map dependent. The banter in general, and those for specific maps, are generic and non-specific enough that there is no story there.
