I have been playing the beta on Steam, I know that for the official launch our progress will disappear and we will have to start from 0 again, I have no problem but I have fallen into a situation that worries me.
I was able to download and test the Microsoft Store beta version of Darktide through the Xbox Insider Program, this taught me that my Darktide progress on Steam beta is not shared with the Microsoft Store version, and this worries me. By the time the official release comes around, my friends and I will be playing Darktide with PC Game Pass, we’ll be playing for months, and when the period on the service is over, I’ll probably start playing the console version (which I hope crossplay will be available by then), and my friends will probably switch to the Steam version, but what about the progress?
I am concerned that the existing version in the Microsoft Store does not share progress with its namesake on PC, since from what I could see it does not even share servers (no one was playing). If so, I am very concerned that having a good option like Game Pass to be able to play with my friends, we will be forced to decide whether to play it there or not for fear that our progress and our online experience will be cut off and closed to said platform still playing on PC. Could someone from the dev team confirm if progress and servers will be cross-save at least on all PC platforms? Please, it is important for me to know this information.
“We’re not saying it’s not possible, or not being explored, but we’re also not going to say “yes it’s in, Day 1”. We like the idea of it and are exploring it, but don’t expect it.”
REALLY? Are you telling me that you are literally going to have the PC community divided and we don’t even have a flat statement that this is going to be a temporary thing?
This is absolutely unacceptable, I can understand that there is no crossplay with Xbox and PS5, but I can’t find a single logical reason to see the community being separated on PC along with their progress, it’s literally dooming the health of the community to one or the other another platform. With the game launching on PC Game Pass on day 1, where the heck do you think most of the community will go initially? What do you think is going to happen when the game leaves Game Pass and players see that by buying its Steam version they have lost everything? Ignoring the obvious fact of seeing how they have been separated from the rest of their friends for no logical reason.
This is outrageous, what the hell were they thinking?
I was watching a Twitch streamer playing Darktide on Steam. He was streaming with another streamer and this other streamer was playing the tutorial on the Xbox Game Pass version; once he was done with the tutorial, they tried to join each other and couldn’t, so one of them did a research and realized they couldn’t play together. The Xbox Game Pass streamer said: “I just wasted money on Xbox Game Pass to play this and we can’t even play?” They both closed the game and the whole chats were like: “RIP Darktide”, and this was the soft part of the comments following. Me and some friends were waiting for the console version and I texted them to tell them there was no Cross-platform, no Cross-save, and people from the Window Store can’t play with people on Steam. We all decided to skip this game. We are about to enter 2023… Fatshark are far behind. I lost hope in Warhammer video games.
Vermintide 2 desperately needed Cross-Save and Cross-Play functionality, especially cross-save. Many players make the jump from console to PC to experience the upgrade in visuals and framerate on pc, or jump down to console from PC for convenience purposes, but justifiably do not want to burn another massive investment of hours just to reach the same level of character progress and item collection that they have already achieved on their starting platform. They also want to keep playing with friends, which is kind of an essential element to keep in mind in a game designed around being multiplayer.
Cross-Save and Cross-Play are consumer-friendly and borderline necessary functions for games like this that were never included with Vermintide 2, even with the desperate outcry from Fatshark’s player base. One has only to spend a few minutes perusing the internet’s forums to see how much need there was for these common features. I understand why they weren’t present in Vermintide, it was made before these elements became commonplace, but now it’s extremely unappealing when a developer releases a game of this kind and doesn’t include these important features.
Even with the rough state that Darktide was released in, I would have purchased it and all of it’s dlc and immediately IF they had firmly stated Cross-Save and Cross-Play was going to be implimented, especially once the other platforms got their versions. I really enjoy Fatshark’s games and want to play them. I own Vermintide and Vermintide 2 on PS4, and I purchased PC versions of both with the expectation that they would eventually implement at least cross-save for Vermintide 2, based off of old comments made by the devs. Unfortunately, as it stands now, my PC versions of Vermintide 2 remain unplayed, and Darktide remains unpurchased until I see things change.
Fatshark’s response to questions about Cross-Save and Cross-Play in Darktide are eerily similar to the comments I remember them making early on when asked the same questions about Vermintide 2, and neither important feature ever surfaced for that game.
Alien: Fireteam Elite implemented crossplay in less than a year of life since its release. Fatshark is not able to crossplay on launch after having published 3 games.
I would like to continue supporting this game beyond my initial purchase, perhaps by purchasing cosmetics and other items, but I have no reason to.
It actually blew my mind how many games and companies over the years said crossplay isnt posible, and aliens FTE did it within a year of release. Tell me again it isnt possible lol.
