Why the Stagnation?

I know we’re fighting nurgle, but come on…

Three things haven’t been innovated on since launch of this game. Now I really enjoy Darktide, its a fun experience, but these three things have fallen to the wayside.

  1. Character Customization, and I don’t mean armor cosmetics. I mean heads, hair, tattooes, etc. What the warp, fatshark? We’ve had the same looks since release, give us some new hairstyles, some better looking faces, and more features we can tweak to really make our own unique Rejects outside of armor.

  2. New Voices - Kinda related to character customization but I feel it deserves its own category. While its neat we have 3 voices for each class, I’d like more options for all the classes when it comes to voices/personalities. Some classes on the male or female personality side of things, I can’t find one that fits MY reject, and thats a big part of the game… your own personal reject. Please, please, please consider adding at least 1 extra voice to each class, if not more. Although I would hate it… you could even put it into the premium shop, as long as it got updated along with the other personalities in their chit chat/banter.

  3. New Classes - Been about… geez like 2 years and still no new classes. We did get talent trees which I will admit, are pretty sweet and do gives us more playstyle diversity… and you could argue those have branched our 4 main classes into 3 classes each of their own, but I think it might be time to finally pop out a 5th class. I know a lotta people have been itching for a mechanicus class and I think it would be amazing to finally release something mechanicus related in terms of a class. Either that or use one of the countless other ideas people have for classes currently.

Every update has brought new voice lines (and/or changed the voice interaction director)

And each personality has 3.900 individual voice lines.

There is no way they would add a new voice actors for each (7 new ones, each with 3.900 vl), there was some datamined links for a 4th Ogryn though, but nothing really is clear (and datamining I’d what datamining is.

New personality would really hinge on a new archetype being released. Nothing else.

Vt2 never released a new character, new branches (equivalent of the Career in Vt2) could and should happen though.

I think you have a good point.

Sure new voice options would be nice but that is quite alot of work and probably pretty expensive for Fatshark.
But stuff like new faces, haircuts, beards, tattoos ect. seem to be fairly easy to implement and would be something I’d like to see.

New classes… Yea that would be cool, but I don’t really know what Fatshark’s vision is regarding that as alot has changed with the talent tree update. I think a new class would require alot of work because of the fairly big talenttrees each class has.

As for now I think the next bigger update will probably be somewhere in late spring/summer 2025. I don’t think there will be any additions to the game before that.

VT2 also had 5 characters on launch and it was well-established that the Ubersreik Five were always going to be our heroes. In the context of Vermintide, it doesn’t make sense to add a sixth hero.

Plus, there are five operative slots for some reason, despite there only being four classes to choose from. If there was ever a bigger indicator of “we really want to add a fifth class but we don’t have time to”, I’d like to see one.

If they don’t give me sliders for facial customization, or blending between existing faces, there’s no point to adding more as they’ll just make them all fugly anyways (which is fine, it fits, but sometimes you don’t wanna be ugly). But I do agree that we should have more hairstyles. The half shaved or weirdly straight/sharp bangs all look… bad, if I’m being honest.
  2. This game does has 6 voices for each class (yes, their body type does affect how dialogue can play out depending on the personality you pick), with the exception being Ogryn, as they only have one body type. I’d also love more voices, but this game already has an incredible amount of extremely high quality dialogue for what are supposed to be nobody prisoners.
  3. Agreed. We need a new class, or talent tree expansions. In my opinion, a new class would be much better & has less risk of completely mucking up the current talent trees (as bad as they can be… looking at you, Ogryn & Zealot). But in the meantime, I guess that fifth character slot will forever remain unfilled.

All this aside, this game is basically stuck in permanent development hell as far as I can tell when it comes to release cycles & content production… So, it might be a while before we ever see any of this come to fruition when there’s far more pressing concerns regarding the already existing content.

They can barely control the clipping and fitment issues with current cosmetic options, i sadly doubt new face customization will ever be added for this reason

And you might notice I didn’t say anything about that.

The talent tree isn’t the biggest hurdle tbf, like if the idea was to have the current archetypes/classes have a 2nd tree it wouldn’t be that difficult to build, it’s more so the other parts of what make one:

  • Voice actors
  • Cosmetic line up (Both free and paid)
  • Paid cosmetic problem (Dlc for Dlc)
  • New weapon line up (if none are shared, like the Ogryn)

And yet you could see people that requested it quite often, most often with outlandish prospect (Skink/Saurus being on the the highest).

Which they’ve already explained is not related to any possible planned Archetype. It’s just from a time where you couldn’t change much of your character.

And Server side there is 8 slots, do you think that if they added a new Arche, they would leave people at the current number of character slots ? Instead of adding a new one like most MMO do.

That is pure cope, if we really want to point to something as this could mean a new arche might be planned, it’s the ‘Good Old Plasma’ Vox, where it might come from a time where our Reject were possibly going to obtain Admech weapons, and instead was cancelled (and as always, FS’s internal communication is as bad as external), but was still released before someone (Strawhat and/or Catfish caught the error and had to deal with it.

On this topic I want a voice for Ogryn that sounds like the Reapers or the DoW ogryn bone’eads
For reference

Basically we need something significantly dumber than the personalities we got. The lower the verbal IQ the better

Yeah, I was kinda expecting new haircuts and maybe even new faces (Krall is always willing to experiment, after all) in a DRG-like fashion. But then the penance track came out with zero new hairstyles. I don’t think it’s happening.

Would have been nice for my female chars to reinvent the lost art of the “ponytail” but alas . . .

Character Customization: probably the easiest addition, there’s mostly modeling and texturing work needed here and afaik those are outsourced to adia. unfortunately, i don’t think there is much incentive for making cosmetics free of charge when there are 2 identical knife skins for real money. perhaps in a paid add-on at some point?

New Voices: much less likely imo, as recording a similar numbers of lines as the old voices have requires a lot of work with 7 more actors if you want 1 male + 1 female for each human class, +1 ogryn. and then there’s writing these lines so they fit the rest, and integrate them into the existing character interaction.

New Classes: basically they gave us 3 subclasses for each class with the skill trees. now i’d be happy to have a mech soldier added at some point, but tbh it might take them as long as the recent addition to vermintide, counting from the release of the game…
