People run what’s most efficient in every difficulty. Anyone who is trying to improve and get better at Vermintide always uses things closest to the top few percentages of effectiveness. There are few exceptions; those come from people who refuse to conform to efficiency and instead take what they’re comfortable with (in my groups case it was that we always had an IB or a FK with a shield at all times, sometimes both).
Anyone who ran a shield in 1.6 was conceding that they would not affect melee aside from crowd-control but more control was afforded by a Handmaiden with Spear than any Kruber with a shield and it didn’t increase anyone’s survivability because everyone else had a higher dodge-count. Dodging was safer than anyone depending on a stamina shield or an ally shoving your target, so you dodged anyways. In the case of Handmaiden, why not take both and have great damage output?
@KaelusVonSestiaf is correct. Meme builds aren’t builds: that’s why you have to preface them with the word “meme” because if you just called them “builds” and compared them to the shade builds of 1.6 you’d sound like a troll.
When we speak of weapon variety, we’re also talking about weapon viability; not just whether or not some dingus is blowing himself up because he finds hampering his team to be funny, but whether or not blowing yourself is a legitimate and viable strategy that you can use dependably to succeed as a player.
Yes. Technically speaking, it is “possible” to have everyone get a tome and only use the push stamina of the tome to push every horde off of a cliff and win a map simply by getting from A->B without killing anything. It would take a genuinely talented group of people to do it on Legend and I’m certainly not that good, but it’s “possible.” Just because it’s possible, however, doesn’t make it a:
Or you could hand your 1.6 Saltzy his A&F and watch him clear the map solo.
The glaring difference is that you need to get to those “top few percentages of effectiveness” in weapon balance, which is hard to accomplish. There is a small, difficult to balance window where the top-tier weapons reside and it’s hard to fit more than a couple in there, but 2.0 fits many more options in there than 1.6 ever did.
No, I play mostly Cataclysm. Legend I do only on careers I don’t particularly like. And on Cataclysm people regularly use the majority of the available weapons. The rest is like @KaelusVonSestiaf explained to you.
With viable i don’t mean ‘push only’ the entire map. Sienna’s mace on pyro is viable in legend right now. I don’t remember how 1.6 was and i dont care which version had better more usefull weapons. I was just saying, every weapon is viable but you still have your top picks. Like i don’t really see alot of variety in weapons in cata except on sienna. Whc is still a&f, rapier, bill. Pistol or cross. Zealot: billhook/a&f. Merc: spear/exe sword., To give some examples.
In 1.6, I mostly used 1h axe on WHC, falchion on BH, and flail on Z. And not as meme builds; I genuinely preferred each of those to A&F. And I’ve never liked rapier with any of the classes.
I really guarantee that nobody is running flail or falchion because they think it’s good. I’ve run them myself, and they’re really not good weapons at all, there’s no reason to run them over billhook or rapier or axe and falc unless you’re doing a meme build.
If someone is choosing to use falchion because they think it gives them the best chance to win, I’m comfortable ignoring their opinion on how well the game is balanced.
Anything on zealot is good because of how fast he is and power bonus for nothing.
But yeah flail is not bad weapon no idea where ppl get that, its shines on harder difficulties because of high cleave stagger and ignoring shields
I really don’t agree at all, ignoring shields is nice but it’s a gimmick mostly. There’s really not any reason to run it over billhook.
It’s fun and I’ll use it anyway, but I’d always do better with a billhook or A+F, outside the situations where the AI director goes “hey you know what would be fun? if we spawned in like, 15 shield enemies so your swings do nothing. enjoy!”
There is no reason to use billhook at all comparing to flail, flail have better cc t han billhook, and yeah sure ignoring shield is gimmick, gl with monks and shielded vermin horde
Billhook is mostly gimmick
Path of Exile, Eve Online… and like whatever else that is not getting screwed up like this. I could play even UT2004 for who knows how long again, and it’s still great game.
I had to take break from VT2 also, since it’s insane mess, I’ve not see in my life any dev studio to keep performing this badly over such a long period, at least not in game that had great potential and I enjoyed.
There is a huge amount of issues, that are not getting fixed, feedback is not being taken, communication sucks super hard, and now they take 2 weeks to “fix” broken spawn that breaks the progression in new season, and after the fix people are telling me that boards are now not updating and after few more weaves you start crashing again … and on top of that they did another huge mess up with the S1 purple frames… this is ridiculous.
Either they get their sh_t together quick or the game is going to hit the ground soon.
I’m at like 3000 hours including beta etc and these last screw-ups just broke me, and I had to drop it.
It’s not about hours played, it’s about all the problems stacking up and about one bad decition being made after another, month after month.
Personally I don’t take the billhook on anything other than Bounty Hunter, because while its defensive capabilities are top notch (infinite dodge count, decent stamina, permastagger on demand, etc), I’m not exactly impressed by its damage output.
