The point of having levels on characters is to get stronger and be able to interact with high level content. You level to max in Darktide to run the same missions that you ran while leveling. Where are the high level missions?
Oh they 100% have your level cap at 30 because the old system is based on 30 level characters and they based the slapdash, hurriedly assembled progression system we have now on pieces of their prior designs and whatever work was already done that they could rip out of Vermintide 2.
It’s not because the game is balanced around a level 30 cap, it’s because a 30 level cap was the fastest thing they could import.
It’s a very good question. Originally, the leveling system was for power level. Which worked for Vermintide. As power rating affected certain aspects of your actions; Stagger, Damage, and Cleave. This is important as it gave you a much needed edge in Cataclysm+, as enemies benefited from a host of resistances which scaled based on that difficulty. On top of this, Vermintide had a bunch of challenging modes that were made harder in Cataclysm. So it worked in this regard. Once you got to the maximum level cap the progression system was then turned into a prestige where more levels showcased your time spent into a specific character.
In any case, I haven’t seen any optional modes or higher difficulty modifiers present in Darktide. So I’m not sure what power rating is for in this game besides, as you noted, repeating the same maps.
