Don’t know, won’t care until they’re worth my time. The answer is probably just “player retention” anyways.

they’re not worth it and i really dont want my team ping spamming me or throwing a tantrum or throwing the game over 1k gold.
books are an IQ test, normal books are low risk low reward assuming you already used the packs while grims are medium-high risk high reward depending on your team comp and how far along are you in the mission.

Reducing the importance of grims & tomes, so that they aren’t required and therefore a drag on the pace of every mission, is a total win in my opinion. Not having to do fiddly jump puzzles or worry about someone forfeiting a healing item behind your back is worlds better than having to do the busywork for better loot.

don’t they? i don’t know, i never take melk’s grim / scripture contracts. not that my ogryn can read them anyway, and i guess my zealot pretends.

I think Martyrs skulls are a happy medium between them, for someone like me who kind of likes that stuff. Although in general I felt most of the Martyrs Skulls could’ve been a little harder to get.

The one on Relay Station is particularly easy.

Agreed! I feel they’re a better implementation of puzzle-based rewards in the game because they’re limited in the number of times you can get them. I was in a PUG match the other day with someone who hadn’t played since last year, and we ran them through the skull. But it was dicey because we got a big ol’ horde halfway through grabbing it.

And that was a load of fun! But when these diversions are effectively mandatory (because they’re the only way to get good loot), it’s just a chore.

They created a meta path in V2, which still happens regardless of books in Darktide. The big difference is they were a point of contention with players having to decide if they want books or not.

I like the change or pace with them being in random places and a mission modifier.
