I posted this on another topic but thought id put out my own to see what people think.
What I’d like to see is to have a full set of grims and scriptures in static hiding spots on every map (changed for there mission varients of course). I liked the feeling of knowing the secret of book locations. Scriptures take up your item slot like normal, but grims replace the key binds of your blitz. So the psyker picks up a grim and suddenly cany use assail. The grim corrupts a full wound for the whole squad, and takes you down to 1hp if it’s your last wound.
Something that would be extra but i think would be fun would be if the books had benefits. Like the scriptures stopped grim corruption, or could be diacarded for a wounds worth of healing. And it would br cool if you could fully corrupt yourself by throwing a grimoire away to send out a warp rift explosion.
I don’t want to see this mechanic come back. It’s only fun for a couple of runs as you learn all the book locations, then it’s just a chore you are expected to do to get the best chance of loot and it forces every party to take the same path. It also introduces a soft fail state in that a group where one palyer survives to clutch is still considered a failure as the group has lost all the books and any hope of getting good rewards.
I really like that in Darktide if just one player survives and makes it to the next revive area the game can continue on with full rewards and there’s much more of a sense of freedom to how you move through levels instead of being forced to the same path everysinglerun like in V2.
Once I started Cata in V2 it was so refreshing being free of the book tyranny, I never want to go back.
I actively switch Melks book contracts.
I never go looking for them.
If I happen on one I’ll pick it up, but I have never noticed a better emperors “reward” dropping for having lugged one home.
The emperor has a warped sense of risk/reward in general.
