Why do we even have social hub?

If you are going to steal my ideas, at least give my thread a link. #18 and #50.

There is NO SOCIAL HUB PEOPLE. It’s just shopping mall. The whole point of that ship deck and 3rd person view is that we can see other people skins and buy more cosmetics using old “omg, that guy looks so cool, I want too!”.

Vermintide had better “social hub”. You had jumping puzzles, paintings and throphy room, emotes and banter between characters and NPCs in castle, making it feel alive. Deep Rock Galactic has proper little social hub where you can socialize together:

  1. You can interact with objects like barrels and kick them around with your friends, stand on them, there are even achievements on that
  2. You can order tons of different kind of beers together, cheers to each other and drink with full drinking animation and beers have funny effects, like changing dwarfs voice, height, making them sparkly or make them fart toxic fumes and more. Or just buy “buff beer” for everyone and gets strong buff just before going on mission together, which also gives nice social feeling.
  3. If you all drink too much bear you all pass out and wake up in medical bay in hospital cloths
  4. You can play different music next to bar and everyone are dancing random dancing animation on dancing floor with 3rd person view. Which combos nicely with easy and funny way to customize dwarfs so so people can make some derp combos just for that. Why? Becasue it’s fun.
  5. You can play barrel kicking game to see who scores more points (and loser buys buff beer).
  6. When you chose mission and difficulty on map you can see assigment of every single party member so you can all choose what mission to do first for whom, which also makes people socialize together and work together.

Also since customization in DRG is so good, every single player you meet looks different. There is no attack of clones like in DT. You have your Promotion hall where you can show your journey to other players as host.

Little things like that gives a life to social hub, making it feel part of the game and enforcing “co-op” feeling.

Darktide hub exist only for purpouse of selling skins. That’s it. Stiff animated clones run around and that’s it.

kind of think this… but…

That said, I kind of hope the hub will eventually become something special. Not sure it can be. Got it right in v 1 and v2.

The "hub’ or lobby really, in V1 and V2 had utility. You could met your friends and compare stuff and the dummies were there in v2, and on special occasions the V1 inn had games. like boxing with friends, or drinking. Used to stand on the map and shoot the cups behind the bar.

I also think the lack of a lobby like that was a big part of the failure of Deathwing. Deathwing was a pretty good game. It was an absolute work of art as well, but it had a lot of problems. 1. Small teams, 2, no social lobby while waiting to fill, 3, move slow because terminators, 4, medic class never really fun, no one wanted to be medic but you couldn’t do without a medic.

I keep it installed but rarely play. Still, the “master crafted everything” in that game was amazingly beautiful. Deathwing’s misses should be required study for Fat Shark, because it also had a lot of big positives … but was lacking a few important little things.

What everybody has been saying about it being a mechanism to sell you MTX and skins; the funny thing is though, we didn’t really need this awkward hub system; because through gameplay you’ll naturally see those skins and would be interested to check them out later.

But…but… this game isn’t CoD. Hedge said so!

DRG is such an amazing game.

The social hub will make a lot more sense to people when the taco kiosk opens up.

That´s a “player-made issue” these days. A lot play online games and don´t even want to play or interact with others.
The current hub is not much different from other games, it´s just that poeple don´t care much about any other players running around there. You could easily talk to others there or ask them to join a party etc… it´s just up to the players to “socialize” a “social hub”.

V2 had no servers. The hub you´ve been was either yours or the host ones. That they made the dummies in a new instance here isn´t that bad to try stuff, otherwise poeple might troll you while testing your build.
The jump-puzzles etc. are not really a social-feature aswell. If anything it´s there to give you something to do while waiting for your friends or sitting in queue.

First it was about Fomo and stuff, FS already made changes, so poeple are like “But i still have to pass the cashshop”, and now it´s “The hub only exists because there is a cashshop!”, like really?!

What´s the differene between this hub or the one in other games? Even in Vermintide you might saw someone with skin X in the hub or even ingame and you´ve been like “Cool, i want that too!”, no matter if it was behind an achievement, shop or whatever. Some where even addicted to frames so…

Atleast you can actually see you character here, so your skins are not wasted 99,9% of all time.

Could there be some little “waiting-features” or something? Maybe a shooting range where 2 players can compete against each other or so?
Yes it could be there… would be cool i guess. But all the assumptions and logic around the cashshop is… very far fetched.

Dingdingdingdingding.
Same reason we can’t start games straight from the mourningstar: You have to have a second screen where you get to show off your cosmetics in perfect light for 60 seconds.

It’s all geared to a singular purpose: Making people want to buy MTX

And what´s with all the weapon skins? Should FS make other players looking like dummies ingame, so you can´t see them holding and shooting that crazy looking lasgun / bolter, or even their character-skin while being in a mission?

Well, if I have one positive thing to say about you, it’s that your presence prevents this place from becoming an echo chamber. It is a true delight reading your posts as you attempt to rationalize Fatshark’s shortcomings.

I just wonder why they had to go the extra mile to add a hub that nobody asked for, make it public despite nobody asking for it and the old system working perfectly, and also add a screen where you get to look at everyone for no particular utility, while also forgetting to add menus for the stores and mission start that they already developed in the last game. They didn’t even bother to add loadouts to the screen where you get to look at other players.

It’s a mystery!

You said aswell that we see the stuff ingame anyway, so what´s wrong? Pretty much every online PvE game has some kind of social hub with a handful of vendors to go through and some don´t even have a cashshop or it got introduced years later.

So yeah, such assumptions across the line are not reasonable at some point “just because it´s FS” this time.

Also i know enough “Menu-games” where you login to get a newsfeed with the newest skins and sales and all the time you´ve info-tabs in a corner for that stuff or extratabs for cashshop and DLC´s etc… Walking past a cashshop-icon or just straight to the queue-button is a joke against it.

a) The other 2 games had a hub aswell, so why should this one get ride of it?

b) Having multiple players in 1 hub saves server-space. Also what´s wrong having the ability to talk to others, ask question or even make groups instead of sitting in your own hub and waiting for someone to join for a game?

c) Yes shortcuts would be great.

d) No, being able to see others loadouts has been the worst they´ve introduced in V2. So worse that they had to make a button to hide them. It was a constant “kick players who´re not running absolute meta” - festival on higher difficulties.

Yes, the hub was clearly introduced as advertising space for cosmetics, and only then because of the immersion.

Ok if we have tacos in the 41st millennium then maybe…just maybe mankind has a chance to survive.

It’s nothing but a glorified showroom for their “micro”-transaction vanity items. That aspect of the game wastes a chunk of your time for a reason.

Hey, you know what else saves server-space? Not having an online hub, like in Vermintide.

You’re avoiding all of the main points. Why the sudden change to third person view? Why the sudden change to have random people run around other than your team? Why are the shortcuts gone after they already had the methods and UI set up for them? Why is the real money skinnerbox the first shop you run into every time you load in?

You know if you smash A and D while running you bugg out?

I can find no other purpose for the Mourningstar atm.

I would love to see some patrols walk by the big empty corridors. The could tease outfits (to drive up sales ofc)

The only easter egg ive seen is that one guy at the top in the middle sometimes pops his head out.

Poeple wanted servers even back in V2 and they´re indeed better than dealing with a bad host connection and host ragequits. There is no chance for a “solo-hub” in a server-game, because it´ll eat a lot of ressources.

Your team is running around there aswell, atleast after you finished a mission together.

We can argue about the 3rd person view since it´s pretty standard even in other games. And yes, that i´m finally able to see my char for a couple of minutes is better than having a games with body-skins where you see nothing all day long.
How much it has something to do with the cashshop is highly questionable since again, you see all those skins while playing with others anyway, especially weapons. And again… atleast you can see “yourself”, the character you created more than in a loading-screen. (Destiny for example has the same from beginning design-choice and there was no cashshop for years.)

The shop is just an icon srsly. The first thing i run into is melk, or the mission-board, whatever. It depends on yourself. You pass an icon, like common… V2 was already way more aggressive with its shop-icon.

Won´t argue against shortcuts, they´re clearly missing.

I almost forgot about the power of the host. and friendly fire. Nothing like spawning into a saltzpyre shooting you to death because their friend is “on the way”

Yea, I usually run to melk then board. I dont usually go over to shop, when I do, I dont ever hear the cosmetic lady chirping at you.
