Where are all the decent unlockable cosmetics?

I get why studios want paid cosmetics, continuous revenue stream bla bla bla…

But this isn’t some free-to-play-Fortnite-battlepass-BS. This is a full price game. And there is nothing that can be EARNED by actually playing the game that doesn’t just look like a variation of the same vaguely black / brown puddle. If you squint, you can’t tell the difference between any of the non-paid cosmetics.

How about instead of asking for more money inside an incomplete game, you put these cosmetics in the game to be unlocked? It’s clearly not finished, so I find it hard to consider it as “extra” content.

To be frank, it’s just upsetting seeing new cosmetics consistently put out while FS sticks their hand out asking for more money while they haven’t even delivered on their initial promises.

There’s no sense of Pride and Accomplishment™ in being able to unlock good cosmetics with time and effort alone. Nay, the only way to achieve that is by opening your wallet up and spend money like the little consumer that you are.

There has now been far more content released in the paid shop than there has in the base game.

It’s super cool that I can spend $4.75 of my local currency for this. What a high quality cosmetic that we have the privilege of being able to pay for. Legit though, I’m actually so mad that garbage like this isn’t even considered to be put in as earnable in-game, literally EVERYTHING is being monetized in an already paid game. This is such hot trash.

Hoping that there’s something actually cool I can get with my remaining imperial edition aquillas but the fact that even the sht hats are 700 is leaving me with little hope.

5 bucks for a headband.

This game is a f*cking joke.

I was secretly huffing some copium that they would at least throw these B to C tier cosmetics as earnable. But no. That 100+ cosmetic leak is just going to be 100% all paid.

This is a $40 game, and literally every. Single. Cosmetic that they’re making is going to be paid. Every single one. We’re not being sold a product, we’re being sold a service. I personally hold high value in character customization. In fact, wasn’t that one of the major selling points? Backstories to create a rich character narrative (lol) to be able to play what we want?

So then we can do that, but only to then look the exact same as everyone else unless we fork over money? Because there’s no variation at all between what you can earn in-game - the penance cosmetics are all the same with some slight variations. The whole “well just don’t buy it” doesn’t work as an excuse for me because I want to be able to express my character how I want, which is what they said. And if I want to do that, the ONLY way to do that is to pay money. I already bought the game.

I could pay my $4.75cdn for a goddamn headband I guess.

I’mma be real, all the Psyker’s aquila store stuff is overdesigned crap, save that one cheaper outfit from the first bundle. Their penance looks are much better.

you’re not wrong. Psyker’s definitely getting the shorter end of the stick with the toilet bowl head pieces.

I enjoy character customization, but I’m not paying them $20s per character to make them look unique or to unlock alternate weapon colors/skins. That’s just insulting. Along with their poor design choices in the past this is my last FS game for sure.

I too love Character customization. Which is why I find this very problematic, because they made such a big point about that for Darktide and how that was a main feature - to be able to create what you want. So they get you 70% of the way there, but then bam. Every single cosmetic outside of the core set is paid. It’s completely on purpose and I guarantee you there’s a psychological trick involved there that more people are going to be willing to pay to customize their character’s appearance if most other aspects are user-created as well.

It’s also why I suspect the other careers are delayed and only coming out every so often when they’re probably mostly copy pasted from VT2. The more they spread them out, the more likely people are to buy cosmetics for the new careers as they drop.

I was a zealot main during Imperial Beta, I managed to complete first set of penance unlocks and a few of the second tier. I had my helm before release. The thing was possibly the worst helm I’ve ever seen. Come day one release and opening of the microtransaction shop, I poked my head into the MTX shop to see the hype. I saw the glorious MTX 1st edition zealot outfit with its flowing scriptures and golden mask. I knew that their priority was to scam the whales as hard as possible and let the game die. Anyone who has played anything digital 40k knows how much DLC/reskins they try to sell and the curse that follows the franchise digitally (See Eternal Crusade).

I actually laughed when I saw this. What a joke.

I hope we get more faces, eye colours, hair styles, even tattoos that are locked behind planets, background and other such things. Right now it’s just bits of flavour and that’s it.

Also, more voices.

IIRC there was a leak that showed additional hair colours and styles were intended to be sold as well.

Yes. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s faces being monetized too.

This is the worst cosmetic situation I’ve ever seen in a game.

It reeks of a short term cash out play. I won’t be surprised if they bail on developing the game fairly early on.

I think what breaks my heart is that they went from VT2, that while not perfect, worked quite well, to…this.

VT2, while the paid cosmetics were obviously way better, they came out way after everything else. and the in-game hats, while not particularly stellar, sported a variety of different styles where I could express my characters how I wanted. The portrait variety was also huge, here, again, they all look the same and are already oversaturated.

I’m angry about how they fell to just this absolute degenerate methodology, but I’m also extremely sad about it. Now it’s basically confirmed that Fatshark isn’t on our side anymore when they’re immersing themselves with these psychological tricks to take advantage of people to make more money.

Ive only had two other games disappoint me as immeasurably as darktide, destiny 1 and borderlands 3.

Destiny 1 just kept asking for too much money and borderlands 3s writing was revolting, however both experiences pale in comparison to how empty, malicious and uncaring the design intent behind darktide appears. Hell I got a lot more time and enjoyment out of no mans sky at launch than darktide.

Vermintide 1 is my favourite game and darktide is my worst launch experience.

What a ride.

People keep saying this is a full-pried game. It’s not. Full-priced games cost at least 20 dollars more than what FS is asking.

I don’t like the cosmetics store either, but that’s another point.
