I did want more shovels. i do think the ones we got need a balance and art direction pass because they look too angular and not 40k futurist enough and the stab overperforms a little, but there was very much demand for more shovels.
Hrm, sort of, depending on how one is defining flamethrower. 40k Flamers are basically propane torches in terms of visuals, both how they operate and how they generally affect things, really just huge cans of hairspray with lighters attached to them, you get a burning puff cloud of flame out of them (IIRC darktide flamers even have a “cloud size” stat). A real flamethrower is more akin to a set of scuba gear tied to a powerwasher apparatus with a revolver stuck to the end of it (that will not necessarily work or be safe if you just leave it around for a year without maintenance the way you can with a gun, it’s a lot more like a car), and you’re not getting a cloud of flame but a pressurized stream of combusting liquid that could reach entirely across most spaces in Darktide.
The thing is I’m 90% sure that is how flamers in 40k are SUPPOSED to be. Spewing flaming liquid prometheum or however its spelled. And the enemy flamers are more like this.
I think it just got the video game treatment in that it’s way easier to make a flamethrower thats just a cloud in front of you.
Promethium is a variety of flamable fluids, both gas and liquid
Though most of the time the one in Flamer are liquids.
