To piggyback onto this: The item/crafting system is a continual open facial wound for this game.
Everything the Fatshark team produces and puts out for Darktide gets dragged down by this. New maps, new weapons, new features, etc, all get panned when even longtime consistent players feel intense frustration and exasperation still grinding the existing content that’s been in there since launch (much less trying for new stuff), and from even a casual reading of this board, reddit, discord, etc, that message from players isn’t exactly subtle. It’s the single greatest complaint, the most popular topic of discussion across every community platform, and is meme’d constantly. The most frustrating part is that Fatshark has done demonstrably better in other games, and similar games/services to Darktide by competitors knock that aspect out of the park by comparison.
Nobody at Fatshark has really wanted to talk about or address this, there’s been no mention of crafting or item functionality for quite some time. Pretending the issue doesn’t exist is harming your product/service, and the silence is deafening. I understand you’re not personally responsible for that, but an acknowledgement that at least someone there is listening at all, and that it’s being taken seriously, would go a loooooong way.
I’m going to lean on the side of they won’t let her talk about anything, instead it would honestly be better if they did monthly shows or something and even told us all the different pitches for things they had. Or some of the actual highlight pitches. That would give people atleast a sign there is someone alive on the other side.
I remember making a post about this concept. I framed it in the lens of buffs and nerfs, how horrible it would be for players who poured tons of time and resources into crafting something just to watch it be destroyed by a nerf. It’s awful, players who’ve spent millions of ordo dockets frustrated because they cannot fix a bricked item…
We’ve been here yelling about it since day 1. Comments about this haunt every patch note and official announcement like a dead albatross around the neck. Why Fatshark doesn’t deal with this and make universally requested crafting improvements is utterly incredible.
The problem is that adding new weapons to the pool lowers your odds of getting a good version of something you actually want. The more weapons that they add to a career the worse the situation becomes.
Well yeah
There was some modicum of a vision of the post launch support the game would consistently receive given around launch
Monthly new maps and quarterly new classes/subclasses
But as the launch was let’s say less than complete and fully functional
That vision was completely went out the window to address issues and immediate criticism
With maps being intermixed with bi to tri monthly updates and the new classes became apart of the large lump skill trees update for the existing classes.
So its pretty obvious the entirety of the future plans of darktide’s post launch support have entirely shifted and now that we’re definitely into a new year it would be extremely nice to know what vision there is for the game beyond fortnightly store updates after its first year teething problems have mostly been addressed now.
The port was also pushed back from, “simultaneous release with PC” to “when it’s done” to “11 months later”. I would have liked to be a fly on the wall for those meetings.
Yeah, this has turned into a game where it needed to be in the cooker for longer with a longer public testing phase. Maybe a suit somewhere will stop sniffing their own farts to see that. But I think the fact people bought this game and still buy skins only showed them they can continue to get away with this.
Numerous empty promises and frequent deflection by the CM have been noted by the community at large by this point. I would prefer to be informed plainly if there will be no patches or significant content updates for several months, rather than being led on by community managers who vaguely mention or allude that “something may happen” or “it’s in the works”, just to appease the community mob.
It would be more respectful our time to be straightforward and inform us whether there are any concrete plans. I believe most people would appreciate honesty if it was stated clearly that there’s nothing currently in development, but that there is a commitment to work towards specific goals by FatShark for the next major update.
Bi-weekly updates/community letters where nothing substantial happens are still preferable to Tri-monthly intervals with no communication whatsoever.
Helldivers 2 have so far been what i wanted Darktide to be. It would be great if Darktide could see a little more how othe live service game dose, note that not all live services are great examples but Helldivers 2 are one of the better.
While i also am frustrated like many here are as i have seen, i hope that some of the harsher comments are not scaring you away from talking with the community like you have done here, its been great seeing you comment and convers with people here again.
Some of the community criticism are valid while some are a bit to harsh towards you, i hope you can tell them apart. And i hope to see you pop in here a bit more.
i think part of the radio silence instead might be the idea of dropping player count due to lack of carrot/stick , putting the game on ice for the time be.
when in fact it might lead to a more drastic and polar opposite effect of disgrunteling the core player base, thus them leaving the game for good or quite longer period of time due to disappointment rather than boredom.
Same, but I must give Darktide credit as well: it does a lot of things very well. I appreciate that Darktide offers a character creator, for example.
My main issue is that I’ve played Darktide for 1500 hours (way too many), and I don’t see how the game can progress beyond what it is.
Helldivers 1 + 2’s Galactic War System, for example, is fantastic.
The fact that we, as a community, push enemy troops away from Earth until we occupy their homeworlds, and then they push us back until we are defending the last few of our planets against them.
That’s progress system that Darktide entirely lacks, and it makes the war feel like a true war in which we’re all working together to survive.
Furthermore, Helldiver’s 2 teamplay, even when quickplaying (which is now possible), is far superior to Darktide.
Item progression via the free battlepass, the quite inexpensive in-game store (1.25 dollars for a full set), earnable Super Credits through gameplay, and so on.
Also, for those of us who enjoy Starship Troopers, I think Helldivers is more fun because it doesn’t take itself too seriously; dropping a 500KG nuke on your group and wiping (by mistake, of course), the frequent use of propaganda pieces, and the debatable conflict (from Super Earth) are all hilarious.

The character creation in this game is kinda meh BUT it still nice that we have it i think. Wish we could get more faces and maybe voices but voices my be to expansive to do more of for each class i guess.

Yes, im still new to the helldivers IP but it feels way more engaging to paly missions in that game then darktide. may it be that there is more bioms, planets or mission types to do or that it (like you wrote) is a grander goal for the whole community to do like the Galactic War. it just feels better t play (mission/story wise).

Its night and day how much better they handle the premium stuff and so much cheaper aswell.
Honestly i kinda want a mod/stand along version of Helldivers 2 but with a 40k skin, defending / fighting aginst tyranids and and necrons as Stormtroopers or heavily armed Guardsmen.

Feels like im really kissing helldivers ass now but yeah that is also a +1 for Helldivers 2, the comedy in that game is gold. The music is also really on point with the starship trooper feeling.
Imagine a stream like this - today we’re gonna play the game with this fresh level 30 Veteran until we get a Power Sword with Slaughterer 4 + Power Cycler 4
