I am not sure it is what you think. Personally I have given a thumb up on steam and pointed what need to be done on this game. I love this game.
I really think that the crafting not being implemented leads to bad reviews cause the game is seen as unfinished.
The crashes, that several experiment, are also a big problem as lot of reviews point that the game is unstable. For example, I don’t get crashes with a 11900k, 32 gb RAM and a RTX 3080… if I don’t use RTX. If I use RTX, I get crashes.
About micro transactions, what I have seen is that people complain about two things:
prices are too highs, and I must agree on this
the micro transactions shop is ready even if the game is not finished
Final word, I think that FS had promised the crafting for december. We did not get any news before they leave for christmas and I think this is the problem. They have not fullfilled their promises and the players don’t like such behaviour.
If they had released the patch at the beginning of january, I would not complain. If we had news before they leave the office, it would have been understood by the community.
But, we are soon at middle of january and yet, no crafting and no news. Actually, I don’t ask for news, but that they implement it in the game… The RNG system is fine, but only if the crafting is here. Without, you need to be lucky to get what you need for the high difficulty levels.
You seem to be conflating AAA games with “all games”. Not even CLOSE to the majority of games are live service or have microtransactions. Most games from medium sized developers/publishers and indie developers are complete games. The end. Some of them pump out DLC (Paradox) to make extra money, but the majority of them are releasing full games with occasional DLC/expansions. This isn’t the industry standard outside of AAA games that have a rabid following that will hand over money for a reskin of shoelaces or some other equally dumb money sink.
Despite what Fatshark says about not wanting Darktide to be like Call of Duty, thats exactly what they want. They want to sell you cheetah print pants and boosters and they want you to consume non-stop. Unfortunately for them, they’re not anywhere near as competent as EA when it comes to development or marketing or exploiting players.
This type of apologia from players is why companies like Fatshark think they can get away with these exploitative business practices. And they might be able to if we don’t start pushing back against these predatory companies.
Forget the rating, 24h peak player count has halved since two weeks ago.
Even those who were enjoying the core gameplay are getting bored and leaving, and eventually the ones who wanted to play this game no matter what will run out of people to play with.
Fatshark has somehow taken one of the most anticipated WH40k games and utterly pissed away their fanbase’s good will.
Here’s some music we can listen to while we enjoy the beginning of the end.
Well this applies to me also. I’m a fan of Tide style games and have a semi decent group of gaming mates who also enjoy the core gameplay, despite all the frustrations with the state of the game. I couldn’t be more critical without going into the childish “Are we there yet?” complaining we see on the forums atm.
However, it is hard to deny Fatshark are running on a loan of “good will” also in our group. We are used to buggy launches from Fatshark. Darktide is fun, but lack of content is going to catch up with us sooner or later. At that point we are likely to take a break from the game.
Regarding micro-transactions someone else was criticising me for, we are aware these were in V2, what we dislike is their presence in a game which is basically paid early beta and the worst possible practices implemented from digital “currencies”, the pricing tricks (where you always are left with left over “currency” to encourage you to “waste not” and buy more. FOMO tactics, and poor choice of cosmetics you can “earn” through actually playing the game.
What was the most disappointing so far is gaslighting from Fatshark leadership, who pretend everything is all right and according to the plan.
