What if we had VT2 crafting in DT?

Which was OKAY (but not GREAT) because being able to tackle endgame content (Having oranges and the right combo would suffice for Legend+) meant that you could prep a “build” as undemanding as that was for Higher difficulties. I think the crafting in VT2 failing to be better is a result of a lack of meaningful, competetive choices in other perk/stat combos.

For intance, Parry should be way more forgiving. (if it even worked half the time) and FatShark could breathe new life into the regular campaign if they chose to incorporate Chaos Wastes perks into the regular pool (personal want of mine).

Not necessarily disagreeing with you outright. At this point I’m discussing pure hypotheticals. And I totally agree the system is super straightforward when comparing to DT vast variety of perk/stat combos. I just think at the very least it’s important to add that VT2 made it easy to rollout with the items you wanted to and not have to worry about the rest. Being actually good or bad in practice is another can of rations. Also, reds.

Yes and No. Ideal would be to take what was good and improve on it. Copying old systems was okay as long as they improved and made it better. FatShark copied old system and made it worse. What’s “Already There” is a failure of crafting which tries to take the worst of RNG based crafting (You like bricking your weapons? GO PLAY A KOREAN MMO) with the staleness of VT2s frankly outdated crafting.

Maybe I’m not understanding the meaning of “prep a build,” but it seems like using sub-optimal gear (even at max 380 power level, the UI reminds us we aren’t close to the true power cap) is totally viable in DT Auric Damnation too? It seems quite easy to roll a viable weapon in both games.

Is the distinction between the VT2 situation and DT that in DT the power level isn’t max?

EDIT: Oh or blessings, and not having them?

You can clear auric with even sub 330 gear if the stat distribution isn’t totally horrible, it was the same deal with vermintide2s cata where white 300 runs were totally doable. Obviously you need certain degree of skill to compensate for the loss of some power.

The most notable difference between the 2 games is that I can have 300 base weapon in v2 and I can eventually make it how I like by just slamming enough material at it.
In darktide you need that jackpot and no amount of material is gonna give you 4/4 on perks/blessings if those originally rolled horribly.

Problem with many of the chaos wastes perks is that they are simply too powerful for regular gameplay and would have to be heavily adjusted.
