Crafting is so crap tbf

I have more than 1k hours in the VT2 and more than 400 hrs in the DT

Crafting in the VT2 was not the best, but compared to DT it is nearly PERFECT!

Crafting in the DT is like spit to the face.

In the VT2 I can take pattern, craft needed item with maxed power (easy to get, nearly 1-2 attempts), Improve the rarity (from even gray to red), with endless rolls get needed characteristics combo and reroll desired perk
I am spending resources, which I got from dismantling tons of items from the mission and level chests (3 item per chest!).
Plain and simple.
No frustration.
Just get what you want and go to the mission.

DT is different:
To craft an item I should spend around 10k gold and the gold is obtained from the missions exclusively.
The gain is not good really: Damnation about 20-30k. Auric Damnation 30-40k. Auric Maelstrom damnation is 60-80k, but the chances to complete any Auric or Maelstrom missions with pubs are very low and Auric Maelstrom is close to 0.
Rarely you can buy a good item from the gold store (10-20k per item) or from the weekly store. Chances to have a good item there are very low, so this is mostly used to fill blessings library
Even more rarely you can get a good item as mission reward. I.e. for me it is ALWAYS 300-320 base power rating, means complete trash.

What would I got? Just a gray quality item, which should be upgraded obv.
To upgrade or reroll an item I should spend Plasteel - obtained from the missions only.
To upgrade 1 item from gray to gold you need around 1k plasteel. How many you can get from the mission? 600-800 from Damnation runs (this includes everyone will seek every possible plasteel pickups during the mission!).
Aint that crazy low? Yes it IS.
Auric or Maelstrom does NOT increase the plasteel gain.

And this isn’t the end!

just look how many RNG layers during the craft we have:

  1. Base Power (BP) - it affects the quality of characteristics (makes them close to cap at 80%). The cap of base power is 380 and trust me, getting even 360 BP is crazy expensive task. Other day I’ve dumped 200k being crafting some shovel and max I’ve got were 330 BP, so basically got nothing at all.
200k is around 20 missions (30 min each - so 8-10 hours) just to being dusted to the trashcan.
You cannot upgrade the Base Power rating.

  2. Characteristics - every item have 5 characteristics (i.e. Cleave, Penetration, Mobility etc) which is affected by BP, but still have their own RNG range. The really good and desired items should have all 5 characteristics at 70+%, needless to say this is rare case, even for goot base power items
    You cannot upgrade that characteristics

  3. Item parameters. Every item has 2 parameters (i.e. +25% damagae to Flak armor), 1st param. at green quality and 2nd at purple. Each parameter has 4 tier levels. And you should try to get at least 1 proper parameter and at least tier 3.
You can change parameters to another, but you cannot just upgrade their tiers.

  4. Item blessings. Every item has 2 blessings (i.e. +6% close damage at close kill, staking 5 times), 1st bless. at blue quality and 2nd at gold. Each blessing has 4 tier levels. And you should try to get at least 1 proper blessing and at least tier 3.
You can change blessing to another, but you cannot just upgrade their tiers.
Also, you should fill your blessings lib 1st: find an item with missing blessing and sacrifice (!) an item completely just to add that blessing of this exact tier only.

Also, why did I said "at least 1 "? Because changing is limited too!
You have 2 params and 2 blessings, so 4 in total, but you can change only 2 (two!) of them! So 1 param and 1 bless, or 2 params, or 2 blessings - up to you! Such freedom! (not)

Do not forget, that there is plain crap parameters (like + stamina on ranged weapons - you can’t block with it!) and blessings (like a whooping ONE AND HALF seconds buff to the impact!) exists just to make crafting even worse.

WHO created such crazy system, which could fit some mobile donate grindy trash “game” only, but not modern AAA PC game!
Werent it obvious at the design docs level, that this is very bad system?
Hell, why do I ask? Ofc it wasn’t - it’s hard to believe, but at the release it were EVEN worse and more RNG.

Anyway, this nightmare SHOULD be changed.

They know.

They don’t care.

The crafting and item progression were rightfully bashed since the game early betas.

The topic where @brosgw gathered all player voices from this forum into a memorial is the most popular topic in this forum of all time, clocking at around 1.500 posts as of right now. If you consider that many “hot topics” die after reaching 100-200 posts, then it really shows how big the issue in question is.

Anyway thank you for coming in here and throwing your two cents. Feedback matters. I can assure you, many players share your opinion on this.

Heck, I did a poll! 90% of people are unhappy with item acquisition and upgrading, and the single most hated part is the locks.

They somehow think that making the process frustrating as hell with gacha mechanics will increase player retention, thus increasing the chance that we players open our wallets to get monopoly money to buy skins for.

Added you and your thread #491.

491 people and ~140 threads later. Fatshark did say ~6 months ago that they weren’t done with crafting changes… but what they’re going to be and when is anyone’s guess.

In a few years, maybe. Sounds a bit optimistic.

Even VT2 was wasting our time with rerolls, which would waste even more time in DT as there are more perks and blessings. Red weapon quality also allowed us to remove a certain level of RNG still present in the re-roll system, as when rerolling a red weapon you always got the max possible stat values. Red weapon quality was also introduced after a LONG time of the playerbase pressure on Fatshark, and complaints about how terrible the itemisation / crafting system worked.

To the person(s) who designed the VT2 and DT systems. Your game systems aren’t fun, they are frustrating and time wasting, and not in a good way. Some players who are interested in obtaining a weapon with a specific perk / blessing combinations are using mods to obtain weapons with specific base scores and to SCRIPT cleaning up all the trash weapons Brunt & Hadron spit out when buying / upgrading them. This is because of the extremely high failure rate.

The current situation doesn’t provide a good progression system, and is hurting player retention.

Yeah, sounds like a joke

Truly does. That line got me hook line and sinker. If the crafting was released as is today back in beta, I would have refunded it. But I kept holding out hope. They got me.

The game is fun, but damn I don’t like being lied to.

I guess they didn’t steer hard enough. They hit the same iceberg twice.

Which dev post was that one from again? Just so that i can quote it in further arguments, where ppl argue “you only want god weapons”, “git gud you dont need god wepons” etc….

So many people missunderstand that it is not mainely about god weapons, it is about player agency

For example increase base stat cap to 400 so that people can go through that RNG hell again.

They don’t have to, all they have to do is dungle a carrot, such new, and overpowered weapons, decreasing your chances of obtaining what you want from the shop further. Just as they have done with the last few patches.

Building on that analogy I’d say they steered too hard because they wanted to hit it twice.

DT is worse than gachas. Gachas have pity timers where after X amount of failed pulls youre guaranteed to get the best item.

DT doesnt guarantee me a 380 base at any point.

Edit: and even if it did, Hadron would just brick it

Not only should the crafting be vastly improved, they should add exotics like division 2.
I thought 40k loved their passed down wargears and stuff? Dawn of War 2 had them. Imagine getting a named bolter with a drum mag so it has 32 rounds, Braces instead of ADS, and has worse spread per shot but does 35% to mutant/unyielding instead of 25% with unique blessings(only on the exotic) locked to it or something.

The crafting just annoys me.

Fatshark should be ashamed of how its implemented, or should I say Tencent because thats who controls this system. The fact I can spend 400k to maybe get close to a 380 and then have it rolled and destroyed with garbage perks/blessings and then be locked out to not change what I wanted after 2 things.

But yeah it controlled by Tencent, they arent ever going to change it.
