What do you guys think of maybe adding ratlings in the future?

i in no way am saying that they should or should not be added for any reasons what so ever, all i’m saying is that i think they would be cool and i like the idea and i would like to know what you guys think of the idea too.

it’s a very small weapon pool for a guy that’s going to be easy to lose and unlikely to land melee headshots that canonically has less toughness than everyone else. i’m pretty sure most people want them because they think they’ll build a whole system for them to snipe with and there’s no value in that.

They’ve already said that Ratling won’t happen due to PoV issues, they can make maps for 2 PoV (Bardin, other. Ogryn, other) but having a 3rd is more difficult.

Tbh even if they did a smaller PoV, I think Squats would be the better choice, as they have more lore and weapons given to them (and if needed can branch to certain league of Votann stuff)

I must admit, that I’m not 100% up to date to squat-lore, but as far as I understand, the leagues are not part of the Imperium and even if the Imperium acknoledges them as abhuman, they would technically be treated like xenos? (Might be wrong on that)
So if i’m correct on that assumption it’s as likely as having Eldar or T’au in the warband?
Ratlings are like Ogryns part of the Imperium, so they are the Emperor’s subjects.

But:
What would ratlings add to the game? They would be very squishy (glass cannon) snipers, who might have movement advantages (grapling hooks and stuff) the maps are currently not designed for.
They would have meelee problems (due to hight) and stealth-options to cover some weaknesses and somewhat reflect on there smallness are allready doubled in the game.

I can’t see them and stick to the communities and my favorite class to add (but let’s not discuss this here, there are allready several threads on that topic):
AdMech based - praise be the Machinegod and his Omnissiah.

ofc it’d be cool but ratlings fill a very specific role of long range combat and in a gam where theres hundreds of enemies bum rushing you, a sniper specialist isnt very useful. besides, the vet fills the pseudo long range role.

i want admechs because the got cool ass toys only they use.

I would rather they keep our current cast and just expand on their current skill trees.

I’d love to see Ratling archetype. I already made a thread with some ideas.

(Note - ratlings have nothing to do with rats, they’re basically hobbits: small, chill, mischevous, but also insane snipers… something I only learned last year )

I’ve always loved cute short little characters in games! I main them every chance I get! I would literally reroll my main psykers of 1.5 years and lose all their gear just if I could, but sadly it seems ratlings don’t have psykers. :sob:

But I think the problem for Darktide is how? Ratlings aren’t good in the kind of direct combat we have here. They’re sneaky little things, excelling in subterfuge, stealth, long ranged sniping and ambushes. Can you imagine a waist-high little thing trying to even get an angle to hit anything in that sea of mobs, let alone survive without getting overwhelmed? Darktide isn’t designed for the kinds of gameplay that would play into their strengths.

And any unique mechanics like giving them innate stealth / threat reduction would just cause hostility in the team (just look at all the arguments we already get from stealth and Loner) and be a nightmare to balance all around either way.

Leage of Votann (Kin) yes, but Squats aren’t exactly the same things as Kins, as they are descendent of Kin that lived on Imperial worlds (Whose core world were destroyed by Tyranids).

But there are still Squats communities around, as shown by Necromunda’s Ironhead Prospector, but also from the multiple Squats bounty hunters (Grendel Grendelsson, Ragnir Gunstein).

So I could be written that the Moebian Domain has a bigger concentration of Squats community (Same thing they’ve explained with the Ogryn.)

Read the suggestions in my Ratling thread I posted above.

There’s loads of ways they could be incorporated imo. People need to let their imagination go for a spin

But what if you have a team of 4 Ratling ? Ratling piggyback ?

Or CS:GO player tower

Put a trenchcoat on them and they’d be cosplaying as a veteran :joy:

When you say ratlings, what do you mean exactly? Like ratling gunners? Because we have a bunch of different flavors of those in Nurgles cursed or whatever they’re called. But I do remember the characters talking a bit about ratlings or something like that in the past, and the speculation back then was that it was going to be another class or something like that.

Donno if FS would ever add other races as this fits a nice little niche of “Space Zombie Shooter” by having enemies be variants of human or sub/super-human (ogryN) with complete corruption being evident in chaos spawns and beasts of nurgle.

It’d be interesting to see if they do anything like that to bring in other races though. I would welcome it.

Wouldn’t it be something of an event if they had the Purple demons, what’re those things called in space marine 2? I wanna say Terminid, but isn’t that HD2? Or was that Tyranid? Oi…

Not sure what purpose a Ratling class would serve in and of itself other than being a particularly hyper-niche Veteran sharpshooter. Maybe as a visual cosmetic or something, but I’m not sure what you’d do with them as a distinct class.

Ratling in 40k are just Space Hobbits. Nothing about Skaven to them

Give small bois stilts (☆_☆)

I’d prefer a mechanicus soldier because I’m not that into staying back sniping with a squishy guy. Also, leveling a new character to 30 seems a chore. I’d rather have my 30 points available from start.
But anyway, I won’t be unhappy even with a ratling.

Not a fan of the Ratling idea.

It doesn’t add much of anything to the game except some theoretical skill trees. They bring no new exciting tools, or interesting abilities.

As others have said, I think an AdMech character of some kind just has more possibilities.

Also, as others have said: Space Hobbits. Yeah, think we can do without them. I could go on a tangent about adding too much goofiness to the GrimDark of 40k, criticizing Fatsharks habit of going with “silly”, instead of serious tone. But aint no one want to hear that. (How come not-a-one of the voice changers in Fatsharks clown show of a cosmetics system, has a proper “vox growl”, huh?)

Everything.

Everything up until this point that fat shark has done has been done almost purely from an economical standpoint.

Fatshark has done everything they could to avoid the creation of additional assets to the point of not creating separate leg/torso models for female characters.

I have a hard time seeing them creating a new body type that they’d have to break away from their current system of asset creation for. I think a human sized admech class is much more likely given the absolute minimum that it would require from them.

Doesn’t Vt2 have a dwarf? How do they deal with it there?
