I think that giving all human sized characters the duelling sword class weapons would add more to the overall gameplay without taking away from the Psyker as it gives another weapon with a rapid eviscerate slash and stab moveset, similar to the combat knife
Given the new cosmetics feature the Veteran has one on their coat or, for example, the auto gun skin with the handguard, I feel that it would further match the existing aesthetic of the characters.
I do not think that it would create an imbalance either, as Vets, Zealots and Psykers still have shovels, 2 handed chain swords and force swords respectively which play very well the the natural strengths of their classes.
It might be a tad imbalanced tbh. I want a MK IV on my vet, but considering how strong it is on Psyker with just generic crit nodes I can’t imagine how it would perform with attack speed from either the vet tree, or even worse the Zealot tree.
Zealot would absolutely tear everything to shreds as opposed to now where they tear everything to shreds.
Zealots need more ranged weapons more importantly, but I don’t see anything particularly wrong with this idea!
In Australia, lower-ranking officers (such as Sergeants) often carry around their sabres for ceremonial reasons! In terms of lore and general logic, Veterans having a sabre/duelling sword like the Psyker’s wouldn’t be unreasonable at all.
I don’t know how a sabre/duelling sword would work with Zealots. I suppose it’s not specifically a bad idea, but it could cause Psykers to get VERY jealous of Zealots for stealing their weapon and having the specific melee buffs to make it completely OP.
Edit 1: I don’t think all of the classes have Shovels, though - that’s only for the tutorial, and beyond that they’re used by the Veteran and Ogryn only if my memory serves.
Edit 2: Disregard Edit 1, I misread it as all the classes have the Shovels, not just Veteran and Ogryn.
It’s probably for the better that Zealots have neither Shovels nor Dueling swords available to them.
Both are clearly balanced around classes that don’t have quite as many melee buffs to their name.
Granted, a shovel zealot would be mad fun - for a match or two, anyways - but it’s better for game balance if it stays as it is.
Of course, if we one day get another sub-tree for psyker that actually benefits melee more, say, an Unchained-equivalent, then maybe we could reach closer to parity, and then it wouldn’t pose such a risk.
Or they could just create slightly modified versions of the mk2 and mk5 swords and add them to Veteran. Maybe even it’s own exclusive mark with some extra feature.
I agree - for balance reasons, and the fact that Zealot already has so many unique melee options at their disposal. On the other hand, their unique ranged options are… let’s say lacking.
I agree and therefore propose a new “Veteran’s Ceremonial Sabre” weapon, which is a reworked Duelling Sword that is unique to Veterans!
Considering the Twins have painfully highlighted how Psykers are both the least tanky and have the worst DPS in the game, I don’t feel like it’s a good idea to give their weapons to other classes.
Psyker Staves are good at hitting multiple targets. They are obviously bad against singular, armoured targets.
I consider their melee options quite competitive in melee, but they’ll always be a glass cannon with the current skill tree.
Actually people dont really know this but zealot’s melee buffs arent nearly as powerful as they seem. Most of what makes him strong in melee is stamina and toughness regeneration and attack speed. Raw damage wise veteran can output more damage per swing.
Dueling swords, flamers, shotguns, heavy swords and shovels should all be unlocked.
But the Krieg skin for the duelling sword is gone! if they add duelling sword to Veteran I’m gonna be so maaaaad!
But no, for real I hope they do share weapons that seem logical. Shotgun for Psyker, Duelling Sword for Zealot and Veteran. I’m guessing theres a lot of psykers that’d be annoyed though. People do like the unique weapons for classes!
(me dreading that Melta will be Zealot exclusive… )
Imo dueling sword, power sword, and heavy sword should all be available to the 3 human classes. They clearly almost did this with heavy sword, judging by how the bots (which are veterans) can tote heavy swords…
Not power sword. Munitorum power sword is definitely right to be locked to vet. Zealot should get a 2h power sword though. Psyker gets force swords instead. All works out.
I would like if they added one of the other Catachan knives, the ones that arent as long as a devil’s claw but are longer than the combat knife. It could be a mix of both crowd control and high damage without excelling in either so as to not make the other knives ineffective. Honestly, each of the 3 vet pathways (at least in my eyes) reflect 3 famous regiments. The tempests scions/cadians for the left, the Krieg for the middle, and the catachan jungle fighters for the right. The vet tree needs some more tweaking and work done and with that they could have new weapons, challenges, and cosmetics tied to those three aspects of the tree along with a tune up of the tree itself. It is almost there it just needs a little more tuning.
Ya lost me here. Attack speed is the biggest DPS multiplier you can get right now, and Zealot also has insane crit bonuses paired up with said attack speed.
Vet does hit harder on a swing by swing basis with a max atk speed of +25, and a +15 crit.
Zealot gets a max of +50 which is actually not hugely difficult to maintain at least with a dagger build knocking 1.5 seconds off your FotF CD every other swing with an insane crit rate of +35; that’s just on single target.
You can definitely keep full uptime in hordes almost regardless of weapon from my limited testing.
