i’m just saying that vet and psyker should both have their own 2hander melees, i’m not saying that they should get thunder hammers, i’m just sayin that they should probably get some sort of 2handed melee because it doesn’t feel right that they don’t have one. sure, they have the heavy sword, but its not a 2hander, its a 1hander that can be used with 2 hands.
i’ll give some suggestions on what the 2hander could be.
a pickaxe - veterens canonically have use pickaxes as as melee weapons, said pickaxes are likely just meant for digging trenches but have in fact been stated to have been useful in cracking an enemies skull open, so i believe that a 2handed pickaxe would be great for the vet.
2handed force sword and 2handed powesword - the vet already has a power sword, why not give him another in the form of a 2hander? and its the same for the psyker, they could both do with 2handers of their respective special swords! plus, if zealot gets a 2handed chainsword, i don’t see why psyker can’t have a 2handed force sword and vet can’t have a 2handed power sword.
duel wielded versions of smaller weapons - i mean, you must have seen this part coming, everybody loves duel wielding things, i’m sure that people would love to duel wield knives and devils claw swords, even shock mauls or axes. people would just love to duel wield.
final suggestion now.
THESE KARKIN HANDS! - literally. its just brass knuckles, brass knuckles with spikes on them, they also cause bleed on crit and can parry with their special activation.
i hope you liked these suggestions, i didn’t work too hard on them, i just thought of stuff i thought could make sense and would be cool.
I’m no 40K lore nut but a 2-handed power sword for the ostensibly ranged class seems a bit much. Zealot I could see. I reckon a pike, maybe – though this would be funny to see a weapon swap on. Lift parties just got a whole lot crazier!
Most likely a shield + weapon combo, I know that’s been discussed a bunch.
As for Psyker, I keep hearing about Force Spears and the like – do want! Force Spear, Scythe, Halberd…
I can understand the perspective of viewing 2-Handed Power Swords for Veteran as “a bit much”, I suppose. I don’t have a major stance on this issue because I personally dislike any sword that doesn’t fall under the “Shortsword” category, to be honest.
Which ties into my preference for Polearms. Polearms SHOULD be available to all Archetypes. I’m talking about:
Pikes for Ogryn.
Force Halberds and Force Spears for Psyker.
Power Halberds for Zealot.
Hunting Lances and Power Spears for Veteran.
Non-Spear Polearms would be nice too, I suppose.
Edit: To explain my opinion that Polearms and Shortswords are the GOATs of melee weaponry, history has consistently proven that range and manoeuvrability are king. Within the context of melee, Polearms have the range and Shortswords have the manoeuvrability.
This also applies to modern ranged weaponry. In fact, Bullpups and traditional Carbines are both becoming increasingly commonplace among soldiers in the modern age solely because they excel in those two categories.
There was a two handed force sword datamined shortly after release if I remember correctly.
Honestly I’d love for both to get dual wielding. Rogue Trader made it possible to use some fun combinations. Even Vermintide 2 had stuff like dual axes, dual hammers, dual swords, dual daggers, mace & sword, axe & falchion, rapier with bistol as alt attack, etc.
In all the 40K ttRPGs force staves are melee force weapons that often times work as a psy-focus (which merely enhances psychic powers), they normally don’t give access to entirely new powers, and they aren’t ranged weapons.
Compared to the lore and other 40K systems, the way this is handled in Darktide is a bit unusual. They’re not ranged weapons in the tabletop or ttRPGs. In all the ttRPGs and the miniature tabletop game, all force weapons do catastrophic damage to daemons (and some times other psykers). Like, they should basically be like the thunderhammer against daemonic and psychic enemies (which I think currently could only apply to the Plaguebeast and Daemonhost, and maybe the psyker Karnak twin).
I was surprised to find that charged force weapon attacks do not do more damage to any of the daemon enemies than they do to anything else. But I definitely agree force staves should in principle be extremely powerful melee weapons. The fact they aren’t melee weapons at all except for that one weird staggering special attack nobody uses anyway, is kinda strange.
she’s using a powersword and i think she just has some sort of dash tech since psykers are able to teleport like reaper from overwatch but as far as i can tell they can’t dash around. so its likely some sort of dash boots.
