Aye, that i did
our enemy number 1 was the head of the âBPJSâ ironically an ugly woman named âMonsen-Engberdingâ and a âthingâ it literally was.
kinda like the one from goonies mixed with jabba the hut.
and just like any dictator it was our holy duty to oppose censorship with any means necessary.
now granted there were some âloopholesâ such as buying or trying to buy being on the âlegal sideâ, not that we would have bothered much anyways, and only the selling publicly subject to prosecution as a minor offense.
there were online stores such as gameware.at located in austria outside german jurisdiction who literally gave them the finger, which we celebrated of course, okaysoft also helped getting uncut versions reliably.
usually i ordered the hot titles 3 times to make sure 1 passed borders and if 3 came i gladly bought em all as an additional
to the censors.
my favorite in manhunt was the sickle in the genitals, basically gutting the dude from behind.
laughed and giggled every time, neighbours must have thought we were watching some âcomedyâ
soldier of fortune likewise was a âcrown jewelâ but the whole wolfenstein franchise i took pride in having completely uncut
only 2 dlcâs eluded me back in the day, since usual sources werent listing them:
wages of sin
and the ryder white dlc for dead island.
other than that, my collection was pretty âcompleteâ
commandos wasnt my cup of tea, though being a piece for the âcollectionâ of course i got the uncut version just to flip the bird to the bpjs, had swastika flags as it should be and corpses to drag.
cant say for sure what title you think of, since i literally never bought a censored version of anything, sorry.
speaking of swastikas, to show the sheer idiocracy of german censorship:
back in the day i had a faible for ww2 themed 1:6 scale figures, playing battlefield, medal of honor and of course wolfenstein to get me in the mood.
so, buying âhistorically correctâ figures from dragon or bbi was completely legal, no one bat an eye it was almost âboringâ
but lo and behold swastikas in a video game?!? dear lord ze germans are marching again
lot of games i sold again over the years, to fund newer rigs for example guess must have been over 100 titles for snes and genesis alone.
then again, emulators make it easy to play the âforbidden stuff of oldâ from a mere browser so nothing is ever lost
now the real hard part back in the day was staying long enough in an arcade, underaged mind you, to play titles like mortal kombat 3 when they werent released on console yet.
that took tremendous âbeard growingâ and undercover skills
