My intuition leads to how they are implementing some humor, as they know they have had some flak from many gamers, I think they implement the emojis to keep things interesting and see how people respond. Another thing I noticed, they may be so busy working on things for this next deadline to release SoMG to where they have had to keep things vague, and with that feedback they get it may be motivation in a humor or other form. Either way, I am looking forward to exploring the new map, popping off the bolt pistol to experience its feel in-game, and see if more secrets of the machine god may be revealed
This isn’t a meme btw OP.
The pick and gear are literally all they’ve posted about the update in the past two weeks.
No one called it POG when it took them two years to release the extra class. People also heavily critized the lore aspect of Sienna becoming a Necromancer. Especially since half the cast would normally kill them on sight.
Stop baiting my man.
We already know we’re getting a 2-hand pick as a weapon, along with the double barrel shotgun and bolt pistol. The only question in everyone’s head is if the crafting update will be on time or delayed.
Did we get one last week? Or was it some other piece of useless fluff? I’m not even sure they could stick to the emojis
The cog
Its a secret
I feel that that contributes to my point. There’d be no sense in “teasing” a new weapon that’s already been confirmed right?
And don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that FS are definitely confirming itemization changes for the next update. I mean that under the present conditions it’d be very tone deaf to drop said teasers unless they were going to have itemization upgrades ready. Which certainly would be in character it seems…
I mean, people would be ecstatic to see/hear the Boltpistol in action, like a short gif/video would be ample enough
we know there will be a map and a few weapons, they even explicitly tell us which weapons
i think part of the reason fatshark isn’t giving a lot of information is because there is supposed to be a crafting rework coming that people are waiting for and they don’t want to tease that if it isn’t going to be finished for the update, also cause fatshark sucks at comms
They still left a veil on possible content to the patch
This new update features (but is not limited to):
I’ve heard GW has some kind of ban on showing unfinished assets.
… Plus FS is weird about comms.
only
to go…
It’s not completely exact.
Basically everything that a Dev studio want to show has to go through GW, unless it’s for a restricted, NDA bound, group, but GW can give the greenlight if they want to
I took that statement from a member of that NDA bound group but now that I think about it, the need for approval would be the real reason.
What studio wants to go through the approval process more than once (WIP and final) for a weapon? And would GW approve something that is unfinished?
I think I’m starting to fear that the coasting till summer vacation theory is going to ring true. Let’s do a bit of wild speculation since that is once again all we have at the moment.
So say the “GW put a ban on showing unfinished content” thing rings true. So that means by the time of the skulls update the only thing they in theory would have had ready and finished was a basic skeleton of the map. It’s odd they didn’t even show any basic gameplay in it or enemies running around like in the Carnival update. That leads me to think that possibly the map wasn’t in a playable state by the time Skulls came around.
Then there is the weird announcement after the trailer that just mentioned what’s in the update. No screenshots, no videos, just text. I thought this was once again odd because comparing to last updates they at least showed a screenshot or trailer with the weapons in action or the finished models.
We are less than a month out from this update supposedly releasing. We have no blog yet showing any details.
I’m not saying it’s outside the realm of possibility to finish 3 weapons and a map within a month but that is going to need some serious crunch time on top of some serious luck.
I’m aware. The question here is what they can do to salvage themselves that would make you as the consumer happy? And I’m sure you’ll say something akin to “don’t post emojis”
So what’s it going to take for them to save darktide for you?
Edit: whoops wrong post. Need my coffee.
Imo there is a lot they could do but here are my personal big ones. I know the reply wasn’t directed at me but hey I got a few:
Have actual meaningful communication
Having an actual honest back and forth would be preferred rather than just constantly going radio silent and expecting us to fill the gaps. My biggest worry with this update is they are going to release an update for say itemization and then go on vacation for 3 months while stuff remains busted.
I think even stuff like the penance update wasn’t exactly fully thought out. I don’t get why they reduced the longer penances for people when a lot of those who are into achievement hunting eat that kind of thing up.
Like put out a poll, ask people what they think about a change before doing it, ask people what they think about certain features. I’m not saying everything has to be design by comity but it would be better than just hand picking people, pushing an update, and acting surprised when people don’t like it.
Stop using a sledgehammer when a scalpel is needed
While some systems really need a sledgehammer (itemization) a lot of their balance changes are sweeping and usually aren’t adjusted after the fact. The number of times they make a change that either makes a weapon completely overpowered or turns it into a paperweight is too many to count. Worst of all they never seem to revisit those changes after the fact.
My biggest gripe example is the flame thrower. Due to their changes it’s basically just a huge paperweight now that sucks ammo and is ineffective in most situations with a huge equip and unequip time. Same with adjustments to the auto pistol.
There is never just a small change, there is never an adjustment later, it’s usually just all at once and if it messes up existing weapons or builds then oh well.
Stop with the apologies that don’t go anywhere
I think by my count we are like 2 or 3 corporate apologies deep but you need to eventually realize that it doesn’t work and mostly just ticks people off. If you need to constantly apologize for stuff and then go back on it then you need to reassess your process.
Make systems that give your players agency
I don’t know why but it feels like every system outside of the gameplay is specially crafted to irritate people. Leaving crafting and items alone because it’s been done to death the mission board has been a long standing throne in my side since launch.
Look, I get server hosting is complicated, I get that sometimes it can be hard to figure out how to set up private games for people, I understand that it’s supposed to be a story element that kind of got thrown in the bin but it’s not working. Setting up servers for people who want a particular mission is something that L4D figured out how to do years ago.
People should be able to pick the difficulty and the mission they want, I’ll never forget the day a friend and I logged on, saw the only mission was toxin refinery and went to go play a different game instead.
I guess those are the ones that come to mind just waking up but I could probably write a longer list later. I feel like I’ve repeated this since launch but the gameplay of Darktide is great, it’s a master class, it’s fantastic but everything surrounding the gameplay sucks the fun out if it like a vampire.
- Finish making the game:
- Add freely selectable missions and the option to start custom maelstrom games with freely stackable and modifiers
- Add more than 2 new weapons a year
- finish the half baked weapon modification for sights, lights, etc. that has been datamined and turned into the weapon mod,. I’m sure Ogryn players would ovea flash light for lights out missions.
- add much needed qol
- if dockets and resources are shared, make weapons and curios cross-shared with classes being able to use them as well.
- fix all the broken systems and bugs that are older than some of their CMs
- Crafting system with way lass RNG and deterministic ways to chase and fully build a weapon
- Reds
- No stupid sht like locks that lead to bricked items
-
Actually communicate on what you’re going to do or not. Be clear and concise. Routine monthly updates at least. And if possible add a PTR testream where people can preview new changes and features and give feedback on them.
And you know, actually heed community feedback. -
Add something that adds replay value. Most people expected a chaos wastes like system for Darktide by this time initially. Of course we’re not even close to it. So knowing FS I’d say that Vermintide 2 needs to fully die so Darktide can become a good game that I’d recommend to friends. Just like what happened to Vermintide 1 & 2.
-
Make the Cosmetic system freeform and meaningful. I’ve made a thread about that and many people posted similar ideas throughout the release. Anything but the current system.
But let’s be real. All of the above is at least going to take 2-3 years and by that time 99% will have moved on. If it happens at all.
The animated trailer has, in almost every case for a while now, released the week before the update goes live so I’d expect that next week. They also mentioned dev blogs; those have usually come out somewhere between with the trailer and a week before. If the trend holds, it should be this week or next. If we don’t get the devblogs before the update, there’s a good chance the itemisation rework part of it will be coming later.
