Was Damnation tweaked in the last patch?

I have to say that something feels different with damnation levels. I took a break from the game for bit and came back and now these levels seem much harder. It could be an effect of a dying player base and a limited pool of random “good” players left in the game but something is different now.

They increased the rate of Specialist spawns across Heresy and Damnation and made them more likely to spawn in groups.

They also updated the AI director to diversify map populations a bit more.

The playerbase isn’t “dying” as it has steadily held its population over the last 7 months. If anything, there are more players now that the game is cross-platform with Gamepass players.

The pool of players has been separated a bit, as most players who are only interested in Damnation play in Auric now.

It’s not by a ton but Darktide’s player count has actually gone up for the first time since March. Maelstrom and Auric missions are really fun and that’s giving a reason to play again.

I didn’t know they upped the spawn rate but that’s dope. Game always could use more difficulty upping. I’m winning most of my Auric Maelstrom missions with randoms now. Community is adapting and git gud’ing

being fast at killing specialists, especially mutants, is a must now. don’t expect others to do it because then you will wind up with a squad of four people thinking others will do it.

Yeah there’s more (1?) specialist slots in regular damnation, and they have no bias towards equal representation like launch where you’d see one of each specialist when they appear, sometimes you get multiple mutants or dogs or poxbursters, or a gaggle of flamers, the odd sniper team, lots more variations. They have also throttled the ogryn valve to fully open, they were a fairly uncommon enemy at launch but now you can encounter patrols of 6 reapers, 8 crushers or bulwarks.

They also added oggy patrols, which wasn’t a thing before, hence the 6-8 crushers.

Okay, it flatlined according to Steam charts. Though yes it did get a bump upwards due to the last patch. How long that lasts depends on the quality of what is released in October.

According to those who playtested the update already (community, not devs), they said it was a very good update.

VT2 had the same amount of players for most of its second year. Not its first year.
