Vulkan API

Would Fatshark be open to supporting Vulkan API as an alternative to DX12. Switching to Vulkan would fix many issues relating to the game crashing constantly. For me its really a coin toss if the game will crash or not during a match. This is a quality of life issue that would benefit the whole player base universally. Please consider it.

I am totally for… as I am on Linux (so I use Vulkan via Proton)

But Stingray is old and at the end of its life. I doubt they would allow resources on this.

Nope, colossal waste of time and resources (looking at you Egosoft and Eagle Dynamics).

If the game is crashing constantly in DX12 for you, you should check to see if there something else going on, logs and dumps are a good starting point.

nah I wish this were the case but its just how the game is unfortunately

Why does it matter that stingray is old? It’s not like the game is going to switch engines or anything right?

I wish they would - playing darktide on bazzite linux is really, really good even through proton, if it were native…

Well, Stingray was abandoned by the company that bought it (Autodesk). So support dropped in 2018.
Only Helldivers 2 and Darktide use it.

It means that the team (Fatshark) has had to maintain and modernize the engine on their own… Rebuilding everything for Vulkan would be a massive amount of work.
Do I have to point out the fact that Fatshark is a studio that sells games? And not rendering engines.

I guess that makes sense, I’m not an expert on these things. I figured it was all one thing. kinda of a black pill actually :grimacing:

Sidenote: you already can get Vulkan to renders Darktide… via Proton (so Steam).
But you need to switch to Linux

yeah well that’s what I use  but the game tends to crash a lot, like a lot a lot. I suspect that going straight Vulkan would fix all this stuff.

This discussion should belong to Linux Discussion - Fatshark Forums

I can’t really give a take on this thread but I would like to see Vulkan become standardized overall in the industry. It’s just better in my experience.

It will
Epic adopts also Linux:

The last wall for Linux users is about anti cheat that monitors the kernel
And on this, things are starting to move:

And Linux is more than 7% of the desktop computers.

And this one that I don’t believe (just because I have been surveyed 9 years ago)

And about windows:

The announcement

The explanation

Imo, too late for me… I have Linux, and won’t come back. This is too little and too late.
And tbh, I feel Linux 10 times better (i would say 100 but it may sounds exaggerated). When I am at work, I am fed up with my computer that is still on windows..
But, as I work for the french administration, soon they will finally replace wincrap by something good (Linux based on NixOS and called Bureautix)

Maybe in the next 'tide game, but not this one. Technical debt is probably astronomical already.

did the --lua-heap-mb-size 2048

thing from your guide. Played the game for a decent amount of time and got no crashes :+1:

Edit, ok nevermind it still crashes a lot. I did go like a bunch of games without a crash but then later it would crash like before. I was not using mods but wanted to see if that would help. : /
