Video editing software causing fps drops while recording darktide?

Hey everyone,

I’ve been recording some Darktide gameplay on PC so I can make short clips and highlights for friends, but I’ve been running into heavy FPS drops and stuttering whenever my editor is running in the background.

I’m using a lightweight setup similar to capcut pc for trimming and exporting clips, and while it works great on its own, darktide seems to struggle badly when both are running at the same time. The game starts hitching, audio desyncs, and sometimes the recording even drops frames.

I’m trying to figure out if this is more of a cpu, gpu, or background-process issue. Has anyone else here had problems recording or editing gameplay for fatshark games while playing? Are there any settings or workarounds that help keep performance stable?

Would really appreciate any tips from people who also record their runs.

AFAIK most people record with the GPU maker’s software like nVidia ShadowPlay or OBS (w/ HW encoding e.g. nvenc).

It makes sense that an editor may be utilizing GPU HW acceleration and CPU, so I’m not sure what you’re asking or what the issue is, just close the editor(s) when running games?

Why would you have the editing software open simultaneously? That is like a recipe to poor performance. Use NVIDIA ShadowPlay or OBS if you don’t have an NVIDIA GPU, as gpkgpk says.

as you’re on pc, you can simply use steam’s recording function.
