Veteran talent "Opening Salvo" doesn't activate correctly on partial reloads for reload-per-shot guns

The “Opening Salvo” talent (not to be confused with the “Opening Salvo” blessing) in the Veteran skill tree states that it gives +10% ranged crit chance for the first 10% ammo after the reload.

This currently does not function correctly for partial reloads on reload-per-shot guns, namely:

  • Zarona Mk2a revolver (Agripinaa Mk14 doesn’t have this issue since it uses speedload)
  • Lawbringer Mk6, Agripinaa Mk7 and Kantrael Mk9 shotguns

For these weapons, Opening Salvo (talent) will only activate for the first 10% ammo after a complete reload (back to 100% magazine capacity), and will not activate after any partial reloads as long as the round count after reloading is <100% magazine capacity (at least 1 round empty):

  • loading however many rounds back in for the Mk2a revolver
  • loading a special shell (or however many regular shells) into any of the shotguns

This greatly undermines the utility of this talent (on top of this talent being quite weak as is) for the few weapons it’s supposed to work well with.

The evidence provided include 2 video recordings in showcasing its behaviour (one for Mk2a revolver, one for Kantrael Mk9 shotgun)

  • observe the bottom left player buff icon sections for the appearance of the Opening Salvo talent

Steps to Reproduce (Required):

  1. Equip “Opening Salvo” talent from Veteran tree
  2. Select Zarona Mk2a revolver / Lawbringer Mk6 shotgun / Agripinaa Mk7 shotgun / Kantrael Mk9 shotgun as the ranged weapon in the same loadout
  3. Fire more than 1 shot with the equipped ranged weapon
  4. Perform partial reload and cancel the reload (via weapon swap / sprint / ADS) before reaching 100% magazine capacity (at least 1 round empty)
  5. Opening Salvo talent is only active when the magazine is completely filled (no rounds missing)

It’s not a BUG, the skill description is the top 10% of the magazine
The current ammunition is less than 90%, which naturally cannot trigger the ability effect

it says “the first 10% ammo after a reload” and that should include any first 10% ammo on any reload, no? Nowhere does it say first 10% ammo of the whole magazine.

The talent is active as long as current ammo in clip / max ammo in clip is greater or equal to 0.9 (as per this).

4/5=0.8 which is smaller than 0.9
7/8=0.875 which is smaller than 0.9

No bug here. The only thing to improve upon here is 0.9 being too high of a threshold for low clip size weapons.

thx for the explanation, that explains its behavior for partial reloads. Hopefully they change the talent in some way to address this still.
