Veteran Cosmetics: Boots

This is a subjective suggestion/request, but after a year of this and with the Vanguard Pack’s release, I’m finally fed up to the point of posting about this. To put it simply, please do not make every ‘top tier’ pair of cargo/combat trousers have those metal boots strapped to the feet.

In a longer format, can we please have more variety in boots? When you look at the ‘top tier’ redacted penance trousers, the Commissiary trousers, and the new Vanguard pack trousers, they all have those ridiculous metal booties, which I liken to being armoured Ugg boots. They’re silly. So silly. Going into battle? Why not strap a load of weight to each foot? Why not make sure the articulation is so terrible that there is no way you could properly articulate the ankle in them, such as when you would be crouched?

If they were a part of leg armour - to draw a historical example like sabatons as an element of a full plate armour harness, I could understand them, but they are weird and I have never seen anything like them in the past 26 or so years that I have been playing 40k. As such I am unable to bring myself to use them, which means I miss out on having matching white/black trousers from the Commissary to go with the white/black chestpiece, for example. I cannot enjoy having Inquisition iconography on trousers (such as the ‘Dead-Eye’s Duty’ and ‘Killshot’s Duty’ uniforms) except for on the pocket of the ‘Pistolero’s Duty’ uniform trousers, which means I don’t get the kneepads, harness etc.

When you look at the other classes they seem to get more variety in their ‘top tier’ leg cosmetics.

Pictures just for clarity, although I’m sure everyone knows exactly what I am refering to:

To go further, when you look at the Veteran’s Vanguard set you have to wonder why they stuck with these things (except ctrl+c, ctrl+v), when the Zealot and Psyker get much better legwear/footwear (although the Zealot’s trousers clip through the armour and boot; classic Fatshark cosmetics):

there’s plenty of options for different boots in the vet’s commissary choices.

although not all of them in the colors you might like, which is just normal for fatshark.

Oh, I have them all, all of the sets in the Commissary, excluding the desert camouflage set which I’m not really a keen fan of. But look at the white set; I cannot bring myself to use the white trousers as they have those horrible boots on. I cannot bring myself to use the penance ones, as I said, with Inquisition badges on because of those horrible metal things. But I don’t have an alternative, just the plainer trousers without any symbols on (excepting Pistolero’s Duty Uniform as said, with its tiny emblems on a pocket).

It’s very clear that Vet got the short end of the stick for the Vanguard pack compared to the other 3 classes. Disappointing but unfortunately that’s just how it turned out.

Someone at FS has a vendetta against the Imperial Guard.

These LEGO boots are the worst.

I feel you so much. The Veteran really has the most unwatchable boots ever.

really, because i feel like their got the best head and torso options by a wide mile. i don’t even mind the boots, but i assume at some point we’ll get other “blue pants” options for them, possibly as rewards for another community event.

They should have used the skin for the imperial edition cosmetic, it has by far the nicest boots of any cosmetic.

They probably based it on some imperial guard’s art but it’s just too big and loose compared to original one which is tight fit.

Also it might look better if the entire outfit is armored but it’s just seem weird to only have the foot part being armored.

I pointed it out before the set was released as well.

I get these sets are meant to be “inspired” by the trailer’s, but considering we have already 6 recolors of these specific legs, I would have hoped they felt inspired to not give us a 7th, but instead give us the exact pants from the trailer.

We already have 6 recolors of these legs which btw are meant to go with chests that have the harness on them like the mortis one and there are still 2 more recolor of these legs in the files. I really hoped they would have felt more inspired and not just pressed 3 buttons to give us this mediocre recolor. I wish they’d feel inspired to give the us the dye recolor system they have behind the scene.

The imperium is hyper-industrial and regimented. It is not a fashion haven. It makes perfect sense for half the leg cosmetics to have the same boots.

It makes sense on a design level to not have so many versions of the same boots that a lot of people think are ugly.

Except the Imperium has, or had because I’m still stuck in 999.M40, a million worlds, the point of which was originally for people to embrace their creativity when making their own thing within the setting. Standardisation is not a common thing, because that would be efficient and the Imperium is most certainly not efficient and never has been (which, for example, is the point of the Administratum, to be a bloated, slow-moving and inept bureaucracy). The only standardisation is the Uplifting Primer each Guardsman gets and the imposition of Commissars on their regiment.

Regiments use what is available from their homeworld, which is derived from their tech level, their homeworld’s topography and its impact on what they use, the available resources to create their equipment, or is particularly derived from the way the people from that planet fight in wars. Some worlds do ape Cadian equipment, or did back in 4th Edition when the plastic Cadians arrived, but that was more GW avoiding recreating all of the famous regiments in plastic. Which is saddening because Tallarn and Mordian Iron Guard …

Practically, those armoured boots are stupid. Its adding weight to your feet and that articulation design would not work. They are stupid, in my opinion, I personally find them obnoxious. When you look at historical armour (as all fictional settings involving humans should because humans use what works) you will see that the primary areas to defend are the torso and or the head, and then after that it extends to the legs and the arms. The feet rarely get protection unless they have some adhoc armour or are an integral part of a more complete armour, such as plate harnesses. Protecting the feet over the thighs is silly, because the thigh is a core part of human movement and contains arteries, so why would you armour the feet instead?

I like the tanker boots the most

I agree with the OP. I just find these metal boots to be ugly looking and I never use them. Nothing more needs to be said.

I wish Fatshark would stop selling reskins of free cosmetics without any tweaks or added accessories.

Still can’t get over this one, honestly.

Honestly the whole “vet has weak boot drip” issue could be solved if they just let us wear different human cosmetics on any character.

I really see no reason why some are class locked anyways.

TBH Best boots probably goes to Vet with the Spiked Foot Duster leggings.

I would have liked a more in depth customisation system, because that sort of thing is my cup of tea, but all they have to do for me is to stop copy-pasta’ing those boots. Its as though they decided there could only be one option, and that all Guardsmen would strap those to their feet just so they can keep recolouring the same pair of trousers.
