Vet Melee suggestion

Can anyone tell me what the closest weapons are (in terms of play style) to the MKIII knife?

I love zipping around and dodging more than blocking, but I love that it has a serious power strike for weak spots. I also love that it’s light attack is broader swing and the heavy attack is focused on a single target.

I did look at power sword but that slows dodging down by a whopping 12% so that’s unfortunately out of bounds for my play style.

Im asking as I don’t want to waste anymore plasteel buffing weapons only to find out they don’t suit my style.

So, can anyone recommend something that’s got a bit more power (by sacrificing dodging/mobility a bit) but also with a powerful 1-hit strike?

Does anyone have a spreadsheet or infographic that compares all the weapons? If so, please share. Thanks!

The other knife.

Look at the weapon’s stats ingame. Dodge distance, sprint speed and such are displayed.
Same thing with the damage of all attacks (except activated specials).
You can do that without spending any plasteel.

If you want to know how the weapon would perform with the right perks and blessings, you can calculate that.

Folding shovel probably.

On vet alone? Just knives. On Psyker duellist sword Mk IV comes…close but it doesn’t have as much “broken” mobility tech.

The present levels of mobility on some weapons are not healthy for the game, and I don’t think I’m alone on this one. It’s too easy to run away from enemies. In VT2 this was more limited.

Damn. So I’ve got no options :pensive:

I have been eyeing up the MKIV Catachan sword but i don’t have any of the blessings unlocked so can’t tell if I can make it a weak spot sniper like the knife.

If it has weak spot damage buff then it could be a good alternative to the knife

If you want a weakspot sniper for Veteran, check out the folding shovels. You can do insane damage to mutants and stuff with a folded attack and Thrust, but it does take a lot longer than just stabbing them a bunch.

Yes it does seem the shovel might be the option to look at - as it has the crowd control but very quick option to pinpoint strike a target.

Annoying as running about with a shovel just doesn’t feel “cool” :joy:

I wish one of the swords had the same versatility.

Seems the shovel would be ideal for ‘no ammo pickups’ matches… Which imo shows us what the true best melee weapons are.

Any notible differences between the MKIII and mkviii shovels? I can’t seem to notice anything that sets them apart

And what effect does “impact” actually have? What does it do to the target?

Is it similar to “power”?

The alround best weapon combining decent mobility and horde clear with excellent single target damage is for me still Antax V combat Axe with brutal momentum.

But nothing is as zippy as a knife on vet - there are just some things that are zippy enough…

You could also give the rashad II combat axe or one of the tactical axes a try.

Also very fun and exclusive for the vet are the two folding shovels.

But if you want the exact same mobility as with the knife you’re out of luck. The knife is the most mobile weapon in the vet’s arsenal.

I definitely know I’ll have to sacrifice some mobility but I’m wondering what the closest is to the knife, so I can still be zippy but not quite as zippy…but with more power.

I like that the shovels have crowd control as default and powerful strike down as special.

The trouble with axes is they seem to target one target instead of swing about

Going to be tough to beat this puppy. But it really shows it’s weakness in seriously dense hordes. If I’m blocked in from dodging away then it’s game-over real quick unless my revolver has ammo in the barrel.

Basically, the Mk III has anti elite normal attacks with an anti elite special while the Mk VII has anti horde normal attacks with an anti elite special. So use the VII.

Great thank you!

I mean, there’s the tactical axes. But I can’t recommend any of them personally as I don’t think they’ve good enough all round killing ability. Nothing has the “zip” of a knife basically.

Antax V Combat Axe is a good all-rounder, but you won’t be racing round the hordes with it.

Unfortunately, the only damage blessings the Devil Claws have is Shred for crit and Rampage for power (there is Skullcrusher, but it’s next to useless on the weapon). The other blessings increase cleave and impact (for some inexplicable reason). They’re very much horde clear weapons and deal no damage to carapace.

And what effect does “impact” actually have? What does it do to the target?

Is it similar to “power”?

Impact increases stagger, so note impact allows you to stagger things faster. Power increases damage, cleave, and impact.

For “zippiness”. I’ll see your knife, and raise you a +2 stamina perk:

edit Mate - your default colour palette is eye wateringly bright! That some kind of brightness setting from within NVidia or something?

Great thanks. So perhaps a shovel with the impact blessing combined with the stacking 10% damage if staggered blessing could be pretty formidable.

Wish I could try this stuff out without wasting plasteel :pensive:

Check the modders’ discord for the Loadout Config mod. Let’s you create and use dream loadouts for the psykhanium.

I really don’t like using mods though… I don’t like to complicate things further.

I don’t even know how to install them but maybe I’ll try for this function.

Impact blessings aren’t really recommended because you can just kill them instead. Plus, the enemies you want to stagger/knockdown now have chain CC immunity. The only reason impact blessings are taken is when the weapon has nothing else to take, like some of the CC weapons.

Also, IIRC, shovels already stagger everything without impact blessings. In addition, Skullcrusher only gives extra damage when you hit something that’s in midst of its stagger animation or knocked down so it’s not that great. You also want Uncanny Strike as one of the blessings, so you don’t really have room for a impact blessing anyways.

Mods make a lot of the games shitty systems more bearable. For example, Im using a mod that mass buys a certain amount of weapon from Brunt Armory and auto-sell everything under a certain rating. No more mashing buy 100 times then sorting through my inventory and risk accidently selling a good weapon.

That actually sounds amazing ngl

I hope the developers play the mods and understand what they need to change… Trouble is they won’t bother as someone has already done the work for them for free.
